SMITH
Dorothy Odle Smith passed away at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, Ill. on July 9, 2001. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Smith is survived by her two sons, Donald Wingfield Smith of Arlington, Va. and Leroy Smith Jr. of Inverness, Ill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay Catherine Smith, Jennifer Colley Smith, Michael Lee Smith, Stephanie Colley Smith and Caroline Wingfield Smith as well as her sisters, Nell Hughes and Beulah Carter. Mrs. Smith was raised in Albemarle County, Va. She was a graduate of the Martha Washington Hospital School of Nursing in Charlottesville, Va. While working at Children's Hospital in Richmond, she met Dr. Leroy Smith, whom she later married. The couple settled in Richmond. Dr. Smith passed away in December of 1993. Mrs. Smith was very active in the First Baptist Church of Richmond, where she was a member of the Gill Sunday School class and Women on Mission. She also served on the Board of the Retreat Hospital. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Ave. Interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Leroy Smith Chair of Plastic Surgery at the MCV Foundation, P.O. Box 980234, Richmond, Va. 23298-0234 or to First Baptist Church.

STEPHENS
Ella Davis Stephens, 91, of Bumpass, passed away July 10, 2001. She was the widow of Ralph H. Stephens. She is survived by three cousins, Jane C. and John Kulikowski, of Richmond, Reed R. and Julia Clary, of Miami, John H. and Louise Clary, of Baton Rouge, and many devoted friends and neighbors. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Riverview Cemetery, with the Reverend Nat Brummitt officiating. Contributions may be made to Holly Grove Volunteer Rescue Squad, 155 Factory Mill Rd., Bumpass, Va. 23024

SUMSION
Virginia Piggott Moore Sumsion, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at her residence. Born April 8, 1912 in Loudon County, she has been a resident of Culpeper for 61 years. She was retired from teaching in Culpeper County Schools. She is survived by her husband, William George Sumsion of Culpeper, Va.; daughter, Joan Moore Wright and her husband, Luther of Ashland, Va.; sisters, Mildred Stewart of Culpeper and Helen Kryud of Wayne, N.J.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Allen of Ashland, Va., Melissa Clark of Siberia, Russia and Craig Wright of Richmond, Va.; great-grandchildren, Jessica Allen, Nicolas Allen, Justus Allen, Bethany Allen and Mitchell Allen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Culpeper Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Wayne Bernardo officiating. Interment to follow in Culpeper Masonic Cemetery with the Dr. Horace Douty officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Presbyterian Church Building Fund (215 S. TREXLER
Janet Rhodes Trexler, of Roanoke, formerly of Richmond where she lived for 49 years, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001. A native of Portland, Maine, she was the widow of Charles H. Trexler Jr. She was a graduate of Deering High School and was retired from C & P Telephone Co. in Richmond and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Alan L. and Frances Rhodes of Roanoke; nephews, Harry S. Rhodes and wife, Rebecca of Ronoake, Clifton E. Rhodes and wife, Lynette of Cary, N.C.; niece, Sally R. Abner of Nashville, Tenn.; three great-nephews and three great-nieces. Also surviving are stepsons, Donn Trexler of Midlothian, Va. and Charles H. Trexler III of Largo, Fla. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with the Rev. David May officiating. Graveside services will be held at the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. 3:30 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 12, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 227 South Cherry Street, Richmond, Va. 23320.

WALTON
James R. "Jimmy" Walton, 62, of Mattaponi, Va., died Wednesday, July 11, 2001. He retired from Chesapeake Corporation after thirty-three years of service and was a long time member of Poroporone Baptist Church. He was a member of West Point Lodge # 238 AF&AM and Royal Arch Chapter #59. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Walton of forty-one years; a daughter and her husband, Denise and Jeffrey Wyatt of St. Stephens Church; a son and his wife, Michael and Teresa Walton of Seaford; his father, Bernard Walton of Mattaponi; four grandchildren, Madeline and Mackenzie Wyatt and Ashlyn and Amanda Walton. A funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Poroporone Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. A Masonic service will be held Friday, 7 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home after which the family will receive friends. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Avenue, Norfolk, Va. 23513 or Poroporone Church Fellowship Wing, Box 400, Shacklefords, Va. 23156.

WATT
Mary Morris Watt died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. She was the daughter of the late George Wythe Watt and Mary Clopton Watt. Miss Watt was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church, graduated from Collegiate School and Hollins College and worked for over 40 years as librarian for Richmond Newspapers. She is survived by several cousins. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Friday, July 13 in Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.

WHITE
Departed this life July 8, 2001, Maggie T. White. She is survived by a niece, Gatsie Puraell; great-niece, Buraiece Hawkins; great-great nieces, Emma Pitman and Mary Neal; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. Rev. Sylvester Smith officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

WILLIAMS
Eugene Thornton Williams, 73, of 7300 Coles Ferry Loop, Brookneal, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine Keene Williams. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Ruth Williams of Mechanicsville; two grandsons, Jeremy Williams, Andrew Williams of Mechanicsville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2001 at Roanoke Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John Kidd and Rev. Roberta Kidd and Monica Gould. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military Rites by American Legion Post #16. The family will received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home, Brookneal and will be at the residence other times.

WILLIAMS
Irene Burke Williams, 76, of Mechanicsville, widow of Joseph E. (Bert) Williams, died July 11, 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. Michael and Diane G. Williams; granddaughter, Kaitlyn D. Williams; and grandson, Charles F. Smith Jr. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Rae Williams Smith. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, and where the Christian Wake will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Catholic Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville. Interment Mt. Calvary. Mrs. Williams was a retired employee of the Bank of Virginia/Signet. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

ADAMS
Anthony Lee Adams, age 40, of Keysville, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002. Surviving are his wife, Sharyn K. Adams; one daughter, Leann Adams; two sons, Joey Adams and Anthony Lee Adams Jr.; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Pennington; one stepson, Brian Keeton; mother, Frances D. Shores; one brother, Jeff Adams; three sisters, Norma Jean Thomas, Joan Reynolds, Jill Metcalf; three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Browning Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

ANDREWS
Ms. Sarah E. Andrews of 712 Arnold Ave. died February 5, 2002. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy N. Hubbard; one son-in-law, Calvin L. Hubbard; devoted friend, Richard Souels; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 East Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held Saturday 3:30 p.m. at James Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Hobgood, N.C. Interment family cemetery.

BETHEA
Ms. Cynthia Iola Bethea of 3001 Baronet Drive departed this life Sunday, February 3, 2002. She was the granddaughter of Joseph and Iola Chisholm. She is survived by her son, Jerry Bethea; daughter, Shakeya Bethea; mother, Sheretha Bethea; brothers, Stanley and Cordell Bethea; one aunt, one uncle, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 1 p.m., Chicago Avenue Baptist Church, 2331 Broad Rock Blvd. Bishop Cleveland Hill officiating. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to services. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Saturday 12:30 p.m.

CARTER
Linwood H. Carter died February 2, 2002. He is survived by three nieces, Fonda M. Wise, Barbara Donald and Theresa Hudson; one nephew, Tony Osterbind; nine great-nieces and nephews, two great-great-nephews and one great-great-niece. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery.

CHENAULT
Juanita Gooch Chenault of Sandston went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 7, 2002. She is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn Lawson and Lisa Watson and her husband, David; her son, Keith Chenault and his wife, Julie; six grandchildren, Amy Porterfield and her husband, Tim, Stacey Lawson, Jennifer and Lisa Marie Watson, Chris and Eric Chenault; and one expected great-grandchild; one devoted nephew, Robert Gooch; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 12 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9. CORBITT
M. Gy. Sgt. James Percival Corbitt Jr., USMC (Retired), of Richmond, passed away at his home on February 6, 2002 at the age of 66. After serving his country for 20 years, he also retired from Signet Bank and the Chesterfield County School System. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Shaw Corbitt; his daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah S. and Leroy Garrett of Chesterfield and Denise C. and W.L. Holmes of Midlothian; sons, James Wallace Corbitt of Richmond and Timothy S. Corbitt of Alexandria; grandchildren, Jason A. and Stephanie F. Garrett of Chesterfield; his mother, P. Agnes J. Corbitt; sisters, Betty C. Bennington and her husband, Karl of Bracey, Va., Barbara C. Prater and her husband, Lonnie of York, S.C., Dorothy C. Sheffield and Marsha C. Murphy of Richmond; brothers, Robert C. Corbitt and his wife, Lois of Columbia, Va., Edward H. Corbitt of Richmond, Charles A. Corbitt of Powhatan and R. Earl Corbitt of Amelia. Thomas B. Cunningham Jr. of Chesterfield Co. departed this life Wednesday, February 6, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Tina Harris-Cunningham; five daughters, Torie, TeShawn and Iesha Cunningham, Tichaundra and Tiajuana Harris; one son, Tione Cunningham; one grandson, Teon Tiller; three brothers, Ronnie, Edwyn and Harry Cunningham; mother-in-law, Emma Johnson; five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, several aunts, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; one godson, Jimaris Jennings; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2 p.m. Bishop James M. Miller Jr., officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery. DAVIS
Elizabeth Boothe “Misty” Davis, 61, of Richmond, died February 7, 2002 of multiple myeloma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee F. Davis Jr. of Richmond; and her parents, Armistead and Elizabeth Boothe of Alexandria. She is survived by a daughter, Lloyd Spruill; two sons, Evan Davis and Keith Davis; a son-in-law, Jay Spruill; two daughters-in-law, Mary Boodell and Krista Davis; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Spruill, Jack Spruill, Landon Spruill and Ravenel Davis; two sisters, Julie Boothe Perry and Eleanor Boothe Smith; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Lee F. Davis Sr. Mrs. Davis founded and directed the Virginia Center for Dyslexia. She was formerly active with the William Byrd Community House, Friends Association for Children, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the St. Paul's Church Home Fund. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with interment following at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew's School, 227 S. Cherry St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

ECKWRIGHT
Sharon King Eckwright, 49, of Sandston, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, February 5, 2002. She was preceded in death by her father, William Edward King Jr.; and is survived by her husband of 23˝ years, Roger David Eckwright; her son, Roger Troy "Goofy" Eckwright; her mother, Helen Jackson Carver; and her stepfather, Fuller Carver; her closest friends, Nina Burgess, Kay Crouch and Darlene Martin; and many other friends. She was employed by Henrico County's Pupil Transportation as a school bus driver for 15 years, most recently on Bus No. 266, and a lifelong member of Sandston Baptist Church. She was loved and will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive family and friends 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.

ELLIOTT
Louis C. Elliott, 79, formerly of Richmond, died Thursday, February 7, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte F. Elliott; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat E. and Collies E. Kidd III and JoAnn and Ronald S. Woody; five sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Guthrie, Mrs. Willie Faye Breedlove, Mrs. Rebecca Williams, Mrs. Margie Hite and Mrs. Norma Jean Talley; brother, Mr. Howard Elliott; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
