PRIDDY
Robert Lee Priddy, 85, of West Point, died Sunday, December 31, 2000. He was the retired owner of Port Richmond Motor Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Taylor Priddy; and their daughter, Paula B. Priddy. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Gloria and John Polk of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Sandra and James Perry of Richmond; two sons and their wives, Glenn and Kitty Priddy of Saluda and Ted and Renee' Priddy of Richmond; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Lightfoot, Va. Burial in Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point, Va. PRINCE
Alese Hardaway Prince, widow of David M. Prince, died January 1, 2001 at the age of 80. She was born March 28, 1920 in Stony Creek, Sussex County, Va., the eldest child of Helen and Embra Winfield Hardaway. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Prince Johnson; her son-in-law, James Spencer
Johnson Jr.; and by one grandson, David Maclin Parker
Johnson of Richmond; and by one brother, L. Stanley Hardaway of Stony Creek. A 1941 graduate of Westhampton College, she designed aircraft for Glenn L. Martin during World War II, and later worked for the Federal Reserve Bank, Richmond. She was an active member of St. Giles Church for over 50 years, a board member of the Richmond Home for Ladies, a member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, the Princess Anne Country Club, Monterey Yacht and Country Club and Willow Oaks Country Club. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, at High Hills Baptist Church, Jarratt, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Home for Ladies, 2620 Stuart Ave., 23220.
REEKES
Mr. Jack A. Reekes, age 72, of South Hill, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Susan M. Reekes of the home; two children, Charles Reekes of Palmer Springs and Luanne Reekes of South Hill; two grandchildren, Jack Reekes of Norfolk and Victoria Reekes of Palmer Springs. Also surviving are four sisters, Nancy Rock, Lillian Crenshaw and Ann Wells, all of South Hill, and Helen Hastings of Blackstone, Va. Mr. Reekes was a retired tobacco buyer with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., a veteran of the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post 79, Masonic Lodge 297, Shrine ACCA Temple and a life member of the VFW Post 1766. Mr. Reekes was also a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 4, 2001, at 2 p.m., by Father Shawn Griffith at Farrar Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Alice Rhodes, 86, of Richmond, went home to be with our Lord January 1, 2001. She was the widow of Elwood T. Rhodes. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Durwood T. and Judith C. Rhodes; sister, Ray Williams; grandchildren, Kristopher T., Jason P. and Amanda P. Rhodes. Mrs. Rhodes was a founding member of Pinehurst Baptist Church, a longtime member of Webber Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chesterfield #139. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with an Eastern Star service to be held 7 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. Grace Elizabeth Rock, 72, of Goochland, died Monday, January 1, 2001. Mrs. Rock was an active member of Smyrna Baptist Church, Goochland. Survivors include her husband, J. Howard Rock; two sons, Steven H. Rock, Falls Church, and Clinton A. Rock, Richmond; sister, Ruth Homa, Sandston; grandchildren, Alex M., Clinton S. and Amy M. Rock; two nieces and a nephew. SELBY
Dr. Talbot Rayl Selby, 73, of Chesterfield County, died on December 31, 2000. Dr. Selby served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, he received his A.B. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also studied at the University of Rome on a Fulbright Scholarship. He retired from the University of Richmond after 28 years in the Department of Classical Studies. Dr. Selby was a founding member of the Mediterranean Society of America, served on the Board of Directors of St. Christopher's School in the 1960's, and was Chairman of the Board of St. Stephen's School, Rome, Italy for several years in the 1970's. During his long academic career, he maintained his intense interest in Italy, and led yearly study tours there for over 25 years until his retirement. His many interests outside of academics included music of all types, from Opera to Bluegrass, and he was well known as an amateur musician in local and regional Bluegrass circles. Dr. Selby is survived by five children, Talbot H. Selby and Barbara S.
Wells of Richmond, Va., Sarah S. Ely of Zurich, Switzerland and Marjorie S. Jurek and Elizabeth S. McCarthy of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of "Doc's" life will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, at Julian's Restaurant, 2617 W. Broad St. All friends of Doc and the family are encouraged to attend, bring pictures and mementos, and to share a story about Doc and reminisce about old times. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 4, at 11 a.m. at Varina Episcopal Church, corner of Mill and New Market Road. SPRINGSTON
Mrs. Wilson Gallian Winn Springston, age 97, of Wilson, Va. died Sunday, December 31, 2000. She was the widow of G. Howard Winn and A. Ray Springston. Survivors include two daughters, Flora and son-in-law, Henry Ryer of Richmond and Tucker Winn of Alexandria; two stepsons, George (Bobby) Springston of Wilson and Lt. Col. Wendell Springston of Yorktown, Va.; "a son", Dr. Salah Batrani; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of White Oak Methodist Church, Past President of the Petersburg Ladies Auxiliary of WWI and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Atlantic Region. Wilson also held many offices in the National Organization of the Ladies Auxiliary. She formerly owned and operated Casual Corner, a ladies apparel shop, and was a member of the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants Association. She spent many years in volunteering at the McGuires Veterans Hospital in Richmond and was also the VAVS representative there. Chapel funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2001 at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, Blackstone with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Leola S. Steele, 97, of Covington, Va., died Monday, January 1, 2001. She was a retired bookkeeper and widow of Lloyd M. Steele. Survivors include a son, Michael Steele of Richmond and Sharps; three daughters, Maxine Sartain of Richmond, Carole Huffman of Covington and Elizabeth Manning of Dover, Del.; and six grandchildren, Cindy Hubbard of Richmond, Patrick Steele of Richmond, April Moore of Dumfries, Leola Cara Burks of Waynesboro, Timothy Huffman of Covington and Dawn Denton of Dover, Del. Ervin Carl Sturm, age 88, formerly of Richmond died January 1, 2001 in Williamsburg, Va. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Kachelman Sturm; and daughter, Susan C. Sturm. Surviving members include a son, Louis E. Sturm and daughter-in-law, Faye of Richmond; daughter, Nancy S. Reynolds and son-in-law, John of Williamsburg; brother, Fred L. Sturm and sister-in-law, Margaret of Bedford, Mass.; four grandsons, Ashley and Graham Sturm of Richmond, Micah and Matthew Reynolds of Williamsburg. THOMPSON
John Walton (Jack) Thompson, 91, died on December 31, 2000 at Westminster-Canterbury House, Richmond. He was born on January 15, 1909, in Surry County, Va., the son of John William Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Epps Thompson. He was preceded in death by a son, John Walton Thompson Jr.; a brother, William Epps Thompson; and a sister, Elizabeth Thompson Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lottie Matthews Thompson of Westminster-Canterbury House; a daughter-in-law, Lilli Thompson Beyer of Richmond; a sister, Ruth Epps Jordan of Fort Defiance, Va.; a nephew, A. Thomas Hamilton Jr. of Richmond; and a niece, Joyce Thompson Nemitz of Henderson, N.C. Mr. Thompson was a prominent retail merchant, whose career in the furniture business spanned 75 years. He was associated with Thalhimer's, Miller & Rhoads, and Meinhard Furniture Co., and was the founder, in 1949, of Jack Thompson Furniture-Interiors. He was a 60-year member of Masonic Tuckahoe Lodge #347 AF&AM, a past member of the Exchange Club, a charter member of Westhampton Methodist Church, served on the Board of Trustees for the Hermitage Home for the Aged, and also on the Board of the United Methodist Family Service Center, formerly the Methodist Children's Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Westminster-Canterbury House, 1600 Westbrook Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Hermitage Methodist Home Benevolent Fund, Westminster-Canterbury Benevolent Fund or Westhampton Methodist Church.

Mrs. Joyce Kelly Tignor, age 70, of Richmond, died Monday, January 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Forrest D. Tignor Jr.; two sons, Forrest L. Tignor and wife, Maxine of Richmond and Stanhope L. Tignor and wife, Kristina of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jackson M. Elcoate, Hampton J. Tignor, Hayley K. Tignor and Kelly K. Tignor; and several cousins. Mrs. Tignor was a longtime member of Derbyshire Baptist Church. For many years she served as church secretary at Derbyshire Baptist Church and later at Trinity United Methodist Church. Jacobs of Clarksville; 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Flora McPeters of Richmond; and three brothers, Ollie Tillotson of South Boston, Barrow Tillotson of Virgilina and Oscar Tillotson of Norfolk. Mrs. Frances Talton Toler, 74, of Richmond, passed away December 31, 2000 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her two sons, William L. Toler Jr. and his wife, Linda of Verona, Va. and Richard A. Toler of Richmond; one granddaughter; and a devoted friend, Mrs. Mildred Brown. Mrs. Toler was a present member and Past Matron of Ruth Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star and was retired from Western Union Telegraph Co. after 42 years of service.
