BOWMAN
Phillip S. Bowman, 90, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed into eternal life December 18, 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Thelma Jodrey of Kelso, Wash.; son, Paul of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and eight grandchildren, Denise O'Hollaren, Paul Jodrey, Randolph Jr., David Bowman, Robert Parker, Tammy Parker Attema, Cassandra Rawlinson and Christina Marcotti; eight great-grandchildren, Emily Ruth and Timothy O'Hollaren, Ryan and Daniel Jodrey, Jason Attema, Shelby and Tessa Rawlinson and Grace Brandt. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends after 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osteoporosis Foundation.

BRANHAM
George Allen (Sonny) Branham, 54, of Glen Allen, formerly of Gordonsville, Va., died January 2, 2001. He was a son of the late George T. Branham and Alma Ellen Gallihugh. He was a 30-year employee of Bell Atlantic/Verizon, an Army veteran serving in Africa and Vietnam and served in the ASA, was past commander of VFW of Gordonsville, Va., was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking for others. Survived by his wife, Veronica S. (Bo) Branham; three daughters, Katie Linkiewicz, Tina Wade and her husband, Darren, Elaine Fletcher and her husband, Mark; a grandson, Kyle; brother, David F. Branham of Gordonsville, Va.; sister, June E. Branham of Barboursville, Va.; mother and father-in-law, Beverley and Jerry Sims. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PAWS For Health at MCV, 828-0922.

CACCIOTTI
Joseph John Cacciotti Sr., 77, of Richmond, passed away January 2, 2001. He was born in Aidone, Sicily, on November 3, 1923. He lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., Cincinnati, Ohio, and Erie, Pa., before residing in Richmond, Va. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and graduated from Fordham University with a degree in chemistry. He was a research scientist with National Lead, General Electric, Texaco Experiment Inc., and a safety director at Philip Morris USA where he retired in 1988. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Lorraine Mary Cacciotti; sons, Joseph John Jr., Robert James and his wife, Cheryl, David John, Walter Jerome and his wife, Janet, and Richard Jason; daughter, Lorraine Janet; brother, Salvatore Angelo Cacciotti of Staten Island, N.Y.; sister, Marie Theresa Mangano of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Erica, Adrienne, Catherine and Taylor Cacciotti; stepgrandchildren, Tara, Lauren and Stacey Ligon; and many dear family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., Wednesday through Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr., at the corner of Huguenot Rd. and Woodmont Dr., followed by interment at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation and/or the Virginia Kidney Foundation.

CARNEAL
George William (Bill) Carneal, age 76, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Richardson Carneal; a daughter, Conway Carneal Miller; and son-in-law, Scott Smith Miller; two sons, George William Carneal Jr. and Robert Mitchell Carneal and his wife, Catherine Ayers Carneal; two stepsons, David Scott Newton and Christopher William Newton; eight grandchildren, Carter Conway Miller, Cameron Smith Miller, Evelyn Scott Miller, Maghan Louise Carneal, George William Carneal III, Henry Wyatt Carneal, Robert Mitchell Carneal II and Ross Williams Carneal. Mr. Carneal was the owner and president of Hawthorne Imports. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, January 15, at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fork Union military Academy.

CARRILLO
Robert P. Carrillo, 45, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond. Mr. Carrillo, a native of Pamona, Calif., was a self-employed painter. Mr. Carrillo is survived by his wife, Lisa Long Carrillo; two daughters, Tina and Ariel; three sons, Bobby, Cruz and Gabriel; and other children; two sisters, Ann Fuentes and Ramona Saldana; one brother, Frank Saldana; and numerous cousins. Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2001 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, followed immediately by a procession to St. Ann Cemetery for a graveside service, officiated by Monsignor Robert Perkins. Arrangements by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

CAULEY
Ida Mae Cauley, 84, of Mechanicsville, died January 2, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson B. Cauley. She is survived by two sons, Wilson D. and his wife, Novella, and Leroy B. and his wife, Clara Cauley; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Park Lawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Va.

CHURCH
Melville (Chuck) Church III of Casanova, Va. died on January 1, 2001 in Tappahannock, Va. Beloved husband of Marlou Tompkinson Church, dear son of Emily North Hutchison of Middleburg, Va., devoted father of Caroline Woodward Church of Warrenton, Va., Mary North Church of New York, N.Y. and Susan Melville Church of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 73 Culpeper St., Warrenton, Va. Interment Warrenton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Ducks Unlimited Conservation Fund or the Melville Church III Memorial Fund, c/o Highland School, Warrenton.

CRAWFORD
Departed this life December 30, 2000, James Eugene (Buck) Crawford of 8814 Midway Rd. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Michelle L. Crawford; two daughters, Kymico T. and Katoya T. Crawford; mother, Alice Davis and husband, Dave Davis; three sisters, Carol Crawford, Delores Edloe and Judy Ellis; two brothers, Harold and Johnny Crawford; five aunts, six uncles, host of nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Mrs. Georgianna Mackins; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and other relatives and friends; among them, Archie Mitchell, Frank Nelson and Marie Alice Taylor. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Friday 1 p.m. at Quioccasin Baptist Church, where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. Andrew Moseley Jr. (Pastor) officiating. Interment Quioccasin Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church, 12:45 p.m. Friday.

CRUMP
Mrs. Emma Virginia Crump, age 99 of Columbia, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, January 1, 2001 in Columbia. She is survived by four sons, John Robert, Harry Lee, Bernard and Willie David Crump; five daughters, Hazel Crump, Mary Alice Jones, Mattie Gomez, Beatrice Gordon and Virginia Crump; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren one sister, Flossie Mahan; three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Columbia. Rev. Andrew J. Jackson, Jr, pastor officiating with interment in Little Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

DANCE
Mrs. Martha Short Dance of Petersburg, Va., departed this life at Southside Regional Medical Center on Monday morning, January 1, 2001. Mrs. Dance was the daughter of the late Charles and Ella Short of Warfield, Va. She graduated from high school and two years of normal college from St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Va., and received her A.B. degree from Virginia Union University, Richmond, Va. She earned her master's degree at New York University and did further study at Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Virginia, Virginia State University and Tennessee A & I University. Her work experiences were varied in the field of education. She was an elementary school teacher in Brunswick County; Japan; Henry William's Elementary School, Virginia Avenue Elementary School, Petersburg, Va. She taught history and social studies at Peabody High School, and was a visiting teacher and social worker for the Petersburg School System from which she retired in 1985. Mrs. Dance worked with many civic, educational and religious projects. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where she was the co-founder of the L.R. Valentine Youth Group, member of the Program Committee, Heritage Board, Sunday school teacher. As a sponsor of the LRVYG, she was instrumental in getting a grant for the writing of "The History and Legend of Pocahontas Island". She was on the board of directors of CARES Inc., member of Southside Mental Health Association, Junior Civic League, National Women's History Association, Virginia Council on Social Welfare and a life member of National Retired Teacher's Association. Also, she authored the history of Peabody High School. As a result of actively serving as a member of these organizations, she received numerous commendations from the organizations in which she served and belonged. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, John J. Dance; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Doswell, Springfield, Md., Mrs. Rose Newport, Trumbull, Conn.; one adopted brother, Anthony E. Short Sr., Wheaton, Md.; two nephews, Cosby Doswell and Anthony Short Jr.; three nieces, Kathy Short, Denise Short, Charletta Short; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Weaver, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2001, 1 p.m. at the Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White officiating. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. Dr. Grady W. Powell, pastor emeritus of the Gillfield Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Warfield, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the James M. DILLARD
Departed this life January 1, 2001, Inetta D. (Bobie) Dillard of 2006 Idlewood Ave. She is survived by two sons, Randy Clarence and Dominique Antione Dillard; mother, Bessie Lee Dillward; two brothers,

DOOLEY
Larry Dale Dooley, age 54, of Quinton, went to be with our Lord Monday, January 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Van Ness Dooley; two daughters, Vanessa Dale Taylor and Kimberly Dooley; two grandsons, Gene and Tommy Taylor; one brother, William Lee Dooley; and a host of loving family members and friends. Mr. Dooley was a member, deacon and treasurer of Kentwood Heights Baptist Church. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 12 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Kentwood Heights Baptist Church. Interment Washington Memorial Park. FOX
Died January 2, 2001, James Edward (Doc) Fox, age 77, of Ashland. He was the son of the late James (Jim) Butler Fox and Lucy Fox. He is survived by his devoted stepmother, Rosa Marion Fox; brothers and sisters, Billy Fox, Joe Fox, both of Ashland, Clarence Fox of Glen Allen, Eleanor Jones, Linda League of Ashland and Jeanie Collier of Mechanicsville; his nieces and nephews, James Thomas Mason, John Henry Mason, Royland Mason, Nancy Searles, Lucille Hall and Barbara Moore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Fox; and his sisters and brother, May Embrey, Bessie Mason, Louise Stanley, Walter Fox, Sarah Fox and Virginia Fox. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday evenings, and where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Mr. Fox was a caretaker at Forest Lawn Cemetery until his retirement, and a long and faithful member of Richmond Baptist Temple.

FRANKLIN
Arthur Benjamin Franklin, 84, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Northville, Mich., went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene McDougall Franklin; and one daughter, Colleen Franklin. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Jean Walker and her husband, Howard; two sisters, Marjorie Howarth of Ontario, Canada, and Ruth Payne of Royal Oak, Mich.; three grandchildren, Michael, Mark and Colleen Walker; five great-grandchildren, Faith, Lane, Rachel, Thomas and Sarah Walker. Mr. Franklin was a member of Plymouth Baptist Church in Plymouth, Mich. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with interment to follow in Signal Hill.

Rev. Irving Sylvester (Buddy) Friend Jr. of Richmond departed this life Monday, January 1, 2001. Preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Bebbs Friend. He leaves to cherish his memories; four daughters, Sherry Reed, Toni Wright, Dawn Hobbs, and Brandi Ruffin; two sons, Irving III and Auturo Friend; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; father, Irving Friend Sr.; two sisters, Carolyn Dillard and Lynette Odom; two brothers, Dwight and Keith Friend; three nieces, one nephew, a host of cousins, six aunts, four uncles,; one daughter-in-law, Nina Friend; two sons-in-law, Richard Wright Jr. and Corey Ruffin; one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets, where the family will receive friends Thursday (today) 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 1 p.m. First Baptist Church, 2920 Kingsdale Rd. Dr. W.E. Shannon, Pastor, officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral services. Relatives and friends attending services assemble at church Friday, 12:30 p.m.

GARRARD
Rev. Henry Calvin Garrard Sr. of Richmond entered eternal rest December 31, 2000. He leaves to celebrate a glorious and dedicated life of service his wife of 43 years, Marian Harvey Garrard; daughter, Sharalyn Garrard-Bailey; sons, Henry Garrard Jr. and Larry Garrard; daughter-in-law, Michelle Garrard; grandchildren, Terra Bailey and Henry Garrard III; brothers, Joseph Garrard and Wilmer Garrard; sister, Blanche Santarosa; two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, one devoted, Fred Thomas III; cousins and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins and Son Funeral Home, where his family will receive friends Thursday (today) 6 to 8 p.m. After 10 a.m. Friday, his remains will rest in Ebenezer Baptist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Rev. Phillip Gonsalves, 46, of Glen Allen, passed away January 3, 2001. Mr. Gonsalves was employed by Philip Morris Management Corp. as an audit manager. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie; daughter, Christina; and son, Jonathan of Glen Allen; mother, Iris Gonsalves; sister, Delna Lall and her husband, Shamsher, all of Bangalore, India; two brothers, Dev Gonsalves of Sydney, Australia and Vinod Gonsalves and his wife, Rita of Irvine, Calif.; mother-in-law, Mary Jo Kelly of Norway, Mich.; father-in-law, Jerry Kelly of Iron Mountain, Mich.; three sisters-in-law, Jane Iglhaut and her husband, Jeff of Apex, N.C., Mary Pat Madigan and her husand, Bob and Maureen Menard and her husband, Tom of Norway, Mich.; brother-in-law, Terry Kelly and his wife, Gina of South Bend, Inc.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Hilton Gonsalves; and brother, Roy Gonsalves. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4401 Springfield Rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Strikers Soccer Program, or St. Michael's Building Fund.
