BOWMAN
Sallie Edwards Bowman, 88, of Richmond, widow of Charles Luther Bowman, died Thursday, February 1, 2001. She is survived by one son, William E. Bowman Sr. and his wife, Valerie; two daughters, Diana Bradshaw Bowman and Sallie Wirt Bowman; five grandchildren; and her brother, Pickett Edwards. Mrs. Bowman was a member and Past Regent of Chancellor Wythe Chapter D.A.R. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Interment private in Hollywood Cemetery.

BRADSHAW
Mrs. Claire Dodson Bradshaw, 76, of Burkeville, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 3, 2001. She was an owner and officer of Bradshaw Ford, Inc., where she worked for over 40 years until just prior to her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie D. Bradshaw. She is survived by her daughter, Linda B. Gragnani and her husband, Otto; her daughter, Patricia B. Bullock; her son, Charlie David Bradshaw Jr. (Chuck) and his wife, Betsy; her seven grandchildren, Carmen Gragnani, Jay Gragnani, Jennifer Perreault, Stacie Bullock, Lucy Bradshaw, Harper Bradshaw and Anne Bradshaw; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Clarke Bradshaw, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Bradshaw, Mrs. John O. Bradshaw and Mrs. Margery Dodson Turner. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Burkeville. The family will receive friends at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home in Crewe on Monday, February 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nottoway County Rescue Squad, Crewe, Va. 23930, Town of Burkeville - Railroad Station Move, Town Hall, Burkeville, Va. 23922 or the American Cancer Society, Nottoway County Unit, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

BROWN
Mr. Sampson Brown, age 67, of Cumberland, departed this life on Friday, February 2, 2001 in Richmond. His remains rest at the Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home, Cumberland, Va. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan. Rev. James Robinson, Pastor, officiating with interment in the church cemetery.

BROWN
Theron Elmo Brown of 1403 Chambers St., departed this life Saturday, February 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Brown; four daughters, Frechena Berry Howard, Elsie Berry Fox, Angela Berry Davis Ruffin and Loretta Berry Jones; five grandchildren, Robert M. Brown, Theron R. Brown, Vanita D. Brown Champion, Diane M. Brown Daisycott and Sharon Brown; one sister, Elmina Brydie; one brother-in-law, Joseph A. Brydie Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Marie Wilkinson Brown; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 6, at 1 p.m. from the New Hope Baptist Church, Rt. 45, Cartersville, Va. Rev. C. Leroy McClaughlin, Pastor, officiating. Interment the Brown Family Cemetery. Remains will rest in the above named church one hour prior to the service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church 12:30 p.m.

BUTLER
Willie Butler, an honorable man of integrity and conviction, met his divine creator on February 2, 2001. He is survived by his dedicated wife, Dorothy; and eight children. Funeral service will be held at Mount Olive Baptist Church, King William, Va. at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 7. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, King William, Va.

CHEATHAM
Mrs. Odessa V. Cheatham of 814 Overbrook Rd., died February 4, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

CLARKE
Sadie Luttrell Clarke, 77, of Callao, departed this life February 3, 2001. She was the widow of Raymond Deatley Clarke, a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and Bethany Baptist Church Phebian Women's Sunday School class. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine C. and Robert G. Van Landingham, Callao, and Margaret A. and Adam F. Geron, West Point; a son, Howard D. Clarke, Callao; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary L. Bowles, Reedville. Mrs. Clarke was a wonderful mother and friend to all. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood. Interment Oakland United Methodist Cemetery, Farnham. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Callao Rescue Squad or Gideons International.

COLGIN
Emma McDonald Colgin, 71, of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Clyde C. Colgin; daughter, Linda C. Sneed; two sons, Clyde L. Colgin and Edward C. McDonald; five grandchildren, Rebecca Sneed, Kyndall Colgin, Kelsey Colgin, Kathy Stallings and Edward C. McDonald Jr.; four great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard C. McDonald. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation.

COOPER
Rachel Young Cooper, 78, of Chester, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2001. A native of Franklin County, Va., she was the daughter of the late, Silas and Erna Perdue Davis. She was a member of Kingsland Baptist Church and a retired employee of Dupont with thirty-eight years of service. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by a son, Edward Young; a grandson, Christopher Shawn Cooper; and a brother, Arthur Davis. She is survived by her husband, Frank Cooper of Chester; a son, Coy Cooper and wife, Betsy of Chesterfield; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Marlin Davis; two sisters, Mildred Johnson and Sue Bower, all of Glade Hill, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

COPELAND
Royce Galvin Copeland Sr., 67, of 27120 Sunset Drive, Windsor, Va., died Saturday, February 3, 2001 in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years of service as a mail carrier and was a self-employed farmer. He was native of Isle of Wight County, Va. and member of Colosse Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late, Galvin Staley Copeland and preceded in death by his sister, Brenda C. Kennedy. He is survived by his wife, Susie Mumford Copeland; mother, Annie Babb Copeland, both of Windsor; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Sue and John Rawls of Zuni, Va.; sons and daughter-in-law, Royce G. Copeland Jr. of Windsor and Mitch and Virginia Copeland; grandchildren, J. Rawls, Jaclyn Rawls and Jeri Rawls; and two brothers, William "Willie" B. Copeland and John Staley Copeland, both of Windsor. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Windsor Cemetery. Rev. Wayne T. Blythe will officiate. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Contributions may be made to the Windsor Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 601, Windsor, Va. 23487.

DAVIS
Departed this life January 30, 2001, Mrs. Ida Coleman Davis of 3842 Baronet Drive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Davis. She is survived by one niece, Keisha Sookins Whittingham; great-nephew, Tony Whittingham III; several cousins; devoted goddaughter, Deborah A. Walker; one sister-in-law, Clarissa H. Coleman; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Cary St., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time, Dr. Earl M. Brown, Pastor, officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

ELLIS
Mabel Elizabeth Ellis, 79, of Highland Springs, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grigg Ellis Sr. She is survived by two sons, W.G. Ellis Jr. and his wife, Beverly and Craig Ellis; one brother, Ralph L. Johnson; two grandchildren, W.G. "Tre" Ellis III and Michael Justin Ellis; one great-grandchild, William G. Ellis IV; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ellis was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 6, from Noon to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Washington Memorial Park.

FOREMAN
Departed this life February 4, 2001, Mrs. Roulette G. Foreman of 10357 Rapidan Way, Ashland, Va. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

GRIFFITH
Stella Geneva Godwin Griffith, 81, of Richmond, died February 2, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, C. Marie Crawford and husband, Wesley; five grandchildren, Debbie, Mark, Susie, Angie and John; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; two aunts, Zilla Murdoch of Richmond and Mildred Averett of Raleigh, N.C.; first cousin, Bob and Norma Hill; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse L. Godwin. The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6. Interment in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Massey Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society. Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend, words are not enough to say how much you are loved and how much we all will miss you. Through your love and understanding, we are all a more caring and compassionate person. Thank you for being and touching our lives. Marie and children.

HAWTHORNE
Sarah J. Hawthorne, 80, widow of James Hawthorne (Jim), died Saturday, February 3, 2001. She is survived by two sisters, Fannie Powell of Richmond, Va. and Juanita Hudgins of Clarksville, Va.; four brothers, Walter and Alonzo Johnson of Baskerville, Va., Carson and Henry Johnson of New Jersey. Mrs. Hawthorne was a member of the Chase City Seven Day Adventist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Giles-Harris Funeral Home in Chase City, Va. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 7, 12 noon at Chase City Seven Day Adventist Church. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park, South Hill, Va. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Chase City Seven Day Adventist Church, Mrs. E. Maurine Bell, Treasurer, P.O. Box 299, South Hill, Va. 23970.

KEMP
Bruce Forbes Kemp, 81, of Richmond, died Saturday, February 3, 2001. He was the son of the late George Stevenson Kemp and Annette Word Kemp. Mr. Kemp was educated in Richmond Public Schools and McGuire's University School. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity and served in the Army Air Force Ground Staff for four years during World War II with foreign service in Eastern India on the border of Central Burma. He was associated with the investment firm of Abbott, Proctor and Paine for many years. Mr. Kemp was a member of River Road Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also served on boards of several charities. He was a member of The Country Club of Virginia and former member of the Downtown Club and the Bull and Bear Club. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Mary Valentine Kemp; one daughter, Elizabeth Taylor Kemp of Richmond; two sons, Bruce Forbes Kemp Jr. of Mechanicsville, Va. and Rev. Dr. Allen Valentine Kemp and wife, Rev. Deborah Miller Kemp of Suffern, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Hannah Valentine Kemp, Micah Miller Kemp and Rachael Kirby Kemp; one sister, Miriam Watt Frischkorn of Richmond. His remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 4. A memorial service will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 5 at River Road Presbyterian Church, 8960 River Road, Richmond. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McGuire's School Foundation, P.O. Box 7145, Richmond, Va. 23221 or charity of donor's choice.
