Clara A. (Gobert) Smith, 80, of Chesterfield, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Charles Smith; her daughter, Margaret Smith; her son, Charles R. Smith; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Virginia Veterans' Cemetery, Amelia.
SWEENEY
Charles Ryland Sweeney passed on at his home in Midlothian on August 3, 2001. He was associated for 30 years with the former Ezekiel-Weilman Company, serving as President in later years. He was also Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mayer China Company of Beaver Falls, Pa. He attended the University of Richmond, but left to become a bomber pilot during World War II in the European theater. During the Korean conflict, he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 0299, Bon Air Methodist Church, and past member of the ACCA Temple and the Virginia Restaurant Association. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Susan G. Sweeney of Alexandria, Va., and Lisa Sauer and her husband John of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Michael C. Sweeney,and Chris Sweeney and his wife Jenny, of Midlothian; four grandsons, Ryland and Christopher Sweeney, and Andrew and Grant Sauer. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Diana Lynn Taylor, 45, of Burnsville, N.C. died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at her home. A native of Richmond, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Jackie Taylor. She is survived by a daughter, Jessi Curry; and a son, Justin Curry, both of Maryland; two sisters, Delores Storey and Debbie Neering; two brothers, Douglas and Donald Taylor. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 7, at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Baptist Church, 3140 Darbytown Rd.

Shirley Gordon Rosengarten Tonelson, 80, of the 4400 block of Deacon Lane, died August 3, 2001, in a Norfolk hospital. Mrs. Tonelson was a native of Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Frank and Sophie Leitman Rosengarten. She was predeceased by her first husband, Sam Gordon of Newport News and was the widow of L. Burton Tonelson. She was a member of Temple Israel and a former member of Ohef Sholom Temple both in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Tonelson was an active member and supporter of many organizations. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Gordon Schreier and her husband, Stephen of Virginia Beach, Stevie Gordon Watson and her husband, Aubrey of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Paula Marks of Norfolk, Va.; and four grandchildren, Stacy Schreier Baum and her husband, Allen of Richmond, Scott Gordon Schreier of Washington, D.C., Spencer Gordon Morgan of Miami, Fla., and Justin Gordon Morgan and his wife, Meredith of Weston, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tillie G. Berger and her husband, Ira of Baltimore and Gerald Gordon and his wife, Addie of Chestnut Hill, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Deacon George A. Tucker, age 68, departed this life on August 3, 2001 at his home in Blackstone, Va. He is survived by his son, Harold (Sonny) Tucker; three grandchildren, Latrece T. Coleman, Anthony L. Tucker and Artric H. Tucker; three sisters, Mary Thompkins, Eva Fowlkes and Fannie Rather; two great-grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, 504 East Street, Blackstone, Va. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2001 from the Spring Hill Baptist Church in Blackstone, Va., with interment in the church cemetery.
WEISSGLASS
Lela Weissglass of Morristown, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 after an extended illness. Lee, as she was called by all who knew her, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The daughter of Frank and Fanny Blumberg of Portland, Oregon, she was a graduate of Lincoln High School. In the mid-1950s Lee relocated to Morristown with her late husband, Dr. Bennett Weissglass and quickly became active in the areašs art community. An avid painter, her talent was recognized with awards in numerous art exhibitions in the 1960s. In 1968, her watercolors were featured in several one woman shows in the Pietro Antonio Gallery, New York City and at the Unitarian Fellowship in Morristown. Always interested in learning, she took many studio courses at Farleigh Dickinson University. She served as president of the Morris County Art Association for several years, and was one of the organizers of the first Art-O-Rama art exhibitions held at the Morristown Jewish Center. Her paintings are part of many private collections in the area. Looking for new challenges, Lee turned her sights to interior design. She attended courses at FIT and Parsonšs School of Design in New York City and became a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers in the late 1970s. Her eclectic style was featured in a number of showcase houses including, the Mansion in May at the Schiff Estate, the ASID Stone Manor Show House and the Junior League of Montclairšs Wisteria Heights Showhouse, which was featured in an issue of Country Living Magazine. She specialized in residential interiors where her innate ability to listen helped her create truly personal interiors for all of her clients. In the 1980s Lee brought her unique sense of beauty to all of Morristown when she opened Lelan Gallery, a retail shop specializing in antiques, decorative accessories and interior design. Leešs survivors include her children, Susan and Rick Morgan of Richmond, Va., Leslie and Jeff Siegler of Little Silver, N.J. and Jeannie Weissglass and Dr. Michel Cohen of New York, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Aaron and Evan Morgan, Sophia and Samuel Siegler and Abilene, Nora and Fannie Cohen; her sisters, Dee Goldstein of Potomac, Md., Pearl Adams and Beth Rovich of Portland, Oregon; and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Shapiro of Princeton, N.J. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 2 at Temple Bšnai Or in Morristown, N.J. Jacquelin Page Allen, 71, the son of Valentine Conway Allen and Mary Moncure Nelson Allen, died at his home, 3023 Allen Trail, Scottsburg, Va., April 2001. He was retired from First and Merchants and National Bank, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, Korean War, and a graduate of the University of Richmond. He is survived by two brothers, Randolph Y. Allen and his wife, Emily of Chance, Va., and A. Nelson Allen and his wife, Millie of Richmond; three sisters, Blanche Allen Stephens and Mary Allen Rhodes of Richmond, and Marcia Allen Barlow of Greenville, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Georgie Tiller Allen of Richmond, widow of William N. Allen, and Jill Maloney Allen of Charlotte County, Va., widow of Marion M. Allen. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Allen Family Cemetery at his home.
APODACA
John Lino Apodaca, 70, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2001. A native of New Mexico, he was the son of Celia Aragon Apodaca and the late Amadeo Apodaca. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietname War. He served with the
Green Berets of the 82nd Airborne Division. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1973 and worked in civil service at the Defense General Supply Center until retiring in 1995. He was a co-owner of the Oriental Food Store in Richmond. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Doris Apodaca; and a brother, William Apodaca. In addition to his mother, Mr. Apodaca is survived by his wife, Kinuko Fujise Apodaca; three daughters, Eleanor R. Apodaca of Tampa, Fla., Lucille C. Apodaca and her husband, Enrique Hart of Oviedo, Fla. and Belle A. Apodaca of Sandston, Va.; a granddaughter, Sophie A. Hart; three brothers, and five sisters. A Mass of the Resurrection will be recited by Father John Martinez at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m.

Seneca Rayne Ashbaugh, five months old, passed peacefully in her mother's arms on May 1, 2001, at Chippenham Memorial Hospital. Louise Jennings Banks of Richmond, formerly of Ashland, died May 2, 2001. She was the widow of Allison H. Banks. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Heath Lowery and Paula Banks Nuckols; sister, Pauline Jennings Maxey; grandchildren, Deborah Barker, Cindy Carey, Arthur Lowery, Creed M. Nuckols III and Bryan Nuckols; great-grandchildren, Jason Barker, Colin and Hayley Lowery; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Banks was president of the "Naomi Class" for 20 years at Bethlehem Baptist Church and during her earlier years was active at Slash Christian Church. Edwin Warren "Dick" Burrow, 75, of Disputanta, Virginia, founder and retired president of E.W. Burrow Logging Co. of Prince George, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2001. Mr. Burrow served on the Board of Supervisors of Prince George County for 16 years until his retirement from the Board in 1987. He was a member of Newville United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry Burrow Sr. and Ladye Pierce Warren Burrow; two sisters, Sue B. Hohman and Jennie Mae B. Hedgepeth; and three brothers, Waverly A. Burrow, Willie Earl Burrow and Aubrey H. Burrow Sr. Mr. Burrow is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian Hawthorne Burrow; five daughters, Brenda B. Schraner and son-in-law, Terry Schraner, JoAnne B. Davis and son-in-law, Henry Davis, Edwina B. Starke, Katherine B. Hackett and Rebecca B. Kirk and son-in-law, Stewart Kirk, all of Disputanta; two brothers, Joseph Henry Burrow Jr. of Disputanta, John Wesley Burrow of Salem; three sisters, Helen B. Adams of Richmond, Katherine B.
