SCHULTZ
Reava L. Schultz, 85, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Schultz and is survived by two children, son, Charles A. Schultz and his wife, Frances and daughter, Joyce Dilworth and her husband, Jim; three grandchildren, Dr. Allen Duane Schultz and his wife, Michelle, Charles A. Schultz Jr. and his wife, Millie and John B. Jeffries III; and three great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive family and friends 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.

SCOTT
Maud Raiford Scott, 97, of Franklin, died November 2, 2001 in the East Pavilion. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Levi Phillip and Alice Crabor Raiford and the widow of Emmett Marvin Scott Sr. She attended Farmville State Teachers College and was a former teacher in the Southampton County Public School System. She was a very active member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ, where she had taught Sunday School, Ladies Bible Study and been involved with the church circles. Survivors include two daughters, Jean S. Marks of Franklin and Ann S. Perkins and her husband, Robert of Portage, Mich.; a son, Emmett Marvin Scott Jr. and his wife, Dolores of Duck, N.C.; five grandchildren, Stacey Scott-Batterson of Norfolk, Suzanne Scott Duck of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Edward Marks of Courtland, Todd Perkins of Kalamazoo, Mich., Robert Perkins of Detroit, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and seven sisters. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with the Rev. James W. Browder III and the Rev. Denise Smelley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to Hunterdale UCC, 741 Hunterdale Rd., Franklin, Va. 23851.

SMITH
Frances Evelyn Ford Smith, of Richmond, formerly of Lynchburg, died November 1, 2001. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Sidney R. Smith; their daughter, Marybeth Christian Smith Eckberg, wife of Brian David Eckberg; her brother, Albert Christian Ford; her niece, Leslie Elaine Ford Powell, wife of William A. Powell and their three children; and her nephew, Stuart Christian Ford and his two children. Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and Willow Oaks Country Club. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College and was a former teacher in Chester. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Springhill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Va.

STUMP
Angela Denise Stump, 33, of Richmond, died October 30, 2001. Miss Stump is survived by her mother, Glenda Walker; two children, Kristie and Michael Stump; one brother and one sister. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday. Interment Blandford Cemetery.

TYLER
Departed this life November 1, 2001, Mrs. Margaret A. Tyler of 314 W. Charity St. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

WEST
James Charlie West, 73, died Friday, November 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Alice F. West; two sons, Charles (Chubby) West and his wife, Cathy, and Ted West; two daughters, Debra West and Kim Londeree; two brothers, Oscar L. and Robert P. West; one sister, Ginny Schultz; four grandchildren, Charles West Jr. and his wife, Amber, Bryan West, Lori and Taylor Londeree; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday evening at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Glen Allen, where the funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, November 5, 2001. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parham Rd. Baptist Church.

WYATT
Memorial services for Mr. Larry Dean Wyatt, of Richmond and formerly of Charlotte Court House, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Richmond.

ALEXANDER
Sidney H. Alexander, 83, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, August 2, 2001. He is survived by three sisters, Mary A. Blanchard of N.C., Venie A. Sullivan of Sandston, and Joyce A. Kirby of Mechanicsville; several nieces and nephews. After noon Saturday, friends may call at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road, where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment Enon United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Daybreak at Heritage Green or Enon United Methodist Church.

ALLEN
Mrs. Nellie Tinsley Allen of Powhatan, Va., formerly of Goochland, Va., entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 2, 2001 at the Meadows Nursing Home in Goochland. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Peyton Tinsley and second husband, James B. Allen; three children, Nellie Mae, Peyton Jr. and Vanessa Tinsley. She leaves to cherish her memories Robert Tinsley of Richmond, Isabel Tinsley of Goochland, James and Carolyn Tinsley of Fluvanna; Bruce and Janice Tinsley of Cumberland; 11 grandchildren, seven brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 6, 1 p.m. at the Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbia, Va., where the remains will lie in state from 11 a.m. until hour of service. Rev. Ellis R. Hill officiating. Interment church cemetery. Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland, Va., in charge of arrangements.

WEILER
Robert Allen Weiler, age 47, died at his home in Richmond, Va., on Sunday, July 1, 2001. He was a Master ASE Automotive Technician at Patrick Chevrolet. He was also a mentor for training automotive apprentices. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa C. Weiler; one daughter, Lisa Ann; three sons, Robert Allen Jr., William Alvah, and John Allen, all of Richmond, Va.; one stepson, Brian Sherman of Herndon, Va. Beloved son of Martha Weiler of Cambridge, Md.; one sister, Susan Henley of Falls Church, Va.; grandmother, Virginia C. Weiler of University Park, Md.; two uncles, Ted Waldron of Laytonsville, Md. and Dick Waldron, Port Angeles, Wash. A memorial service was held in Richmond, Va. on July 5, 2001.

BETTS
Martha Goebel Betts, a prominent Richmond, Virginia artist, died August 3, 2001 after an extended illness. Mrs. Betts work was displayed in numerous one person shows, juried competitions, and galleries, both in Richmond and across the country. A frequent award winner, her paintings are owned by many collectors and are included in various corporate collections. Her most recent show, "Surviving Impressions", raised over 1.5 million dollars for the Medical College of Virginia Foundation to support research for the cure of metastatic cancer. Mrs. Betts, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis, was a nationally ranked junior tennis player. Following graduation from college, her interests turned to the theater and she performed professionally in several summer stock theaters, various repertoire companies, motion pictures, documentaries, and television shows. She began to paint seriously in 1970 and studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Marchutz School of Art in Aix en Provence in France, the Art Students League in New York, and the Pastel Society of America in New York. Mrs. Betts was a member of the Pastel Society of America, the Metropolitan Art Association of Richmond, the Hilton Head Art League, and the Southeastern Pastel Society. She was listed in the "Encyclopedia of American Artists". Mrs. Betts was an active member of the Catholic Church and devoted time and effort to both St. Bridget's Church and The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. She also served as a volunteer for the Reach for Recovery program of the American Cancer Society for over fifteen years. Mrs. Betts is survived by her husband of 44 years, James F. Betts; and their three daughters, Nancy Betts Crow and her husband, Russell of Frederick, Maryland, Susan Gerard Betts of Richmond, and Elizabeth Betts Wallace and her husband, John of Richmond. She had three grandchildren, John Gordon Wallace III, Martha Goebel Crow and Jacqueline Grace Wallace. Her two brothers, John Joseph Goebel of St. Louis, Mo. and James Christopher Goebel of New Canaan, Conn., also survive her. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday in The Cathedral of the Sacred Hart. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James and Martha Betts Metastatic Cancer Research Fund of Medical College of Virginia Foundation.

BINNS
Eloise Binns of Richmond, Va. died Thursday, August 2, 2001 at her daughter's home on Hilton Head Island, S.C. She is survived by three children, Harvey Binns and Susan Creighton of Edenton, N.C., and Cynthia Binns Reed of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma James of Greenwood, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Binns was a retired employee of Thalhimers and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 48 years. Her life's interest was working with children and especially the underprivileged. Services were held Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Hilton Head Island, with interment in Six Oaks Memorial Park, Hilton Head Island. Memorial contributions may be made to The Virginia Home for Boys or Children of America Finding Hope, Post Office Box 926, Vansant, Va. 24656. The Island Funeral Home of Hilton Head Island was in charge of arrangements.

BOWMAN
John Frank Bowman, 79, of Providence Forge, formerly of Charles City, departed this life August 3, 2001 in McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond. He is survived by his daugther, Deborah Bowman Atkins of Newport News; son, Chester W. Christian of New Kent; one brother, Richard Bowman and his wife, Marion; one sister, A. Bernice Bowman; sister-in-law, Ruby Bowman; one granddaughter, Casie Christian; three brothers-in-law, Charles, Cappy and Henry F. Christian; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Mr. Bowman will rest at Elam Baptist Church, Ruthville, where services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. James W. Hayes officiating. Interment church cemetery.

BROWN
Russell Nervy Brown, age 82, of Warsaw, died on Friday, August 3, 2001. Mr. Brown was a lifelong member of Cobham Park Baptist Church and a waterman. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gladys Sanders Brown; a son, Russell G. "Rusty" Brown and wife, Jane; three grandchildren, Emily Sanders Brown, Jason M. Brann and Jena N. Brann, all of Warsaw; a brother, Eugene Brown of Heathsville; three sisters, Pearl B. Taylor, Eunice B. Vanlandingham and Florence B. Coates, all of Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 6 at Cobham Park Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Welch-Marks Funeral Home, Warsaw. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobham Park Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wainwright Sanders, 1429 Wellfords Wharf Road, Warsaw, Va. 22572.

BURNETTE
David Reid Burnette, age 47, of Varina, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joan D. Burnette; two children, Amber Leigh and Kyle Denton Burnette; his mother, Laverna Burnette; one brother, Michael W. Burnette; one sister, Patricia Wyatt; several nieces and nephews and many loving friends. David was employed with Philip Morris and was a member Oak Hall Baptist Church. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

CARUSO
Paul Joseph Caruso of 1722 Westover Avenue, Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal life on August 3, 2001. He was the only child of the late Joseph Anthony Caruso and Jacqueline Trevisano Caruso. He was born in Patterson, N.J. in 1946 and lived in Petersburg since 1982 when he accepted the position of Professor of Business and Economics at Richard Bland College of the College of William and Mary. He was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society in Economics and of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. During his lifetime he had been very active in community activities including Board of Directors of Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, four term president of the Italian American Cultural Association of Virginia, Jaycees, Rotary, Virginia Association of Economists, Fellow of Students in Free Enterprise, Catholic Volunteer in the Federal Prison System, Liturgy Committee of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Petersburg Art League. Sir Paul was a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, an Order of the Catholic Church whose seat is at the Vatican in Rome. He was also publications editor for the Richmond Diocesan Section of the Order at the time of his death. He was the author of The Franklin Letter: A Review of the Long Island Economy, and The Union Trust Letter: A Review of the Fairfield County Economy. He is survived by a number of cousins, aunts, uncles and godchildren, Ashton Claire Thompson and Alexander Stephen Thompson. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in his parish church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington St. on Tuesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. with Father Robert M. Spencer as celebrant. The entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Petersburg Chapel, Wythe and Adam Sts. of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes and visitation will follow until 9 p.m.

CASON
John William Cason, 57, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2001. He was born in Anderson County, S.C. and was preceded in death by his father, William Cason. Survivors include one daugther, Alycia Cason (Orlando) Allen, Heidelburg, West Germany; his mother, Conyers Cason, Roanoke; four brothers, Colonel (Ret.) James P. (Janice) Cason, Forestville, Md., Franklin David Cason, Winston, N.C., Joseph L (Margaret) Cason, Roanoke, and Maxie Leo (Shirley) Cason, Detroit, Mich.; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2001, in First Baptist Church, N. Jefferson Street, with Dr. Kenneth B. Wright officiating. Interment was held in Williams Memorial Park.

DAVIS
Betty Lou Davis, 64, of Sandston, died Saturday, August 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Carl H. Davis; five children, Cathierne Briere of Sandston, Robert, James, Susan and Carl Glenn Davis of Washington; her mother, Adeline Johnstone; two sisters, Beverly Ayala and Barbara Smith; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
