Scot and Heather Tanner and John Richard Martin; two sisters, Louise Bell and Joyce Wright; four brothers, Melvin Tomes, Leonard T. Tomes, Earnie Tomes and Henry Tomes. Mary Basile McCann born October 20, 1925 in Hopewell, Va., died Sunday, December 24, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Basile, and the widow of Virgil McCann. Mrs. McCann graduated from Hopewell High School, Class of '42. She attended Richard Bland College, graduated from Smithdeal Massey Business College and attended MCV. She was a retired Biostatistician with the Federal Government. She was President of Senior Citizens Advisory Commission, City of Hopewell for many years, she served as vice-Chairman, Board of Directors for Crater Area Agency on Aging for many years, President, Board of Directors, City Point Adult Daycare Center, Board of Directors HPI (Beacon), member of Hopewell Twining Association, Treasurer of Historic City Point Association, member of Hopewell Community Industrial Panel, Charter member Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation since 1984, John Wayne Foundation APVA (Preservation of Antiquities), Army Quartermaster Foundation and Our Lady of Fatima Traditional Catholic Church. She is survived by two brothers, Frank Jeffrey Basile and Anthony (Tony) J. Basile; two sisters, Christine Basile Rose and Janet Basile Beaudet; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening with a Rosary said at 7 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. at the Gould Funeral Home, Hopewell, where a Requiem Mass will be offered 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by interment in Appomattox Cemetery. Aloysius R. (Dick) Mooney, age 90, of Sandston, passed away Friday, December 22, 2000. He is survived by two children, Mary Vayo and Patrick Mooney; four grandchildren, Ed, Melissa, Joel and Nicole. Mr. Mooney was a retired machinist from AMF, Inc., and was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. She left to her family the legacy of genealogical pursuits, compiling a book of her family history. Mrs.
Williams was an active member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church (formerly Fulton Baptist and Montrose Baptist) for 81 years, serving as Sunday school teacher, youth leader and president of Woman's Missionary Union. She organized numerous mission activities, taught sewing classes at inner-city centers and made clothing for needy children and seniors in Appalachia and foreign countries. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Virginia Lung Association. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26.
