SHAW
Mr. Everett P. Shaw, 90, of Richmond, passed away on April 3, 2001. He was the son of the late Everett S. and Alice Abbott Shaw. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Walker Shaw; two sons, William A. Shaw of Richmond and Everett P. Shaw Jr. of Lorida, Fla.; four stepchildren, Juanita Rock of Chester, John Dirffie Tyler of Daytona Beach, Fla., Rebecca W. Fox of Manakin-Sabot and Brinson Carter White of Earlysville; one sister, Dorothy S. Womack of Richmond; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Shaw; and his previous wife, Ethel Chinault Shaw. Mr. Shaw served in the U.S. Army prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 141 and a member of Manchester Moose Lodge No. 699. He was a co-owner of McGuire TV. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday. Interment to follow at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bowling Green, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

SMITH
Departed this life on April 2, 2001, Troy (Grit) Smith. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Notice of funeral later.

SPRIGGS
Leslie Morrison Spriggs Jr., 67, of Nags Head, N.C., and Marathon, Fla., formerly of Reedville, died Friday, March 30, 2001. He was a retired captain on an oil drilling rig for Penrod Drilling Co. in Louisiana, and a former fish boat captain. Mr. Spriggs was a member of Reedville Lodge No. 321, AF&AM. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. W. Emory "Janet" Lewis; a brother, William "Bill" Spriggs, both of Reedville; two nephews, Tres and Turner Lewis. Graveside services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Reedville.

STINNETT
Richard L. Stinnett Jr., 63, of Richmond, died April 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Thelma H.; seven children, Richard C. Stinnett, Virginia Cashwell, Theodore Matzganis, Georgia Smith, George Matzganis, Victoria Smith and Gwendolyn Ellis; two sisters, Joan King and Patricia Stanley; 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends any time after 2 p.m. Wednesday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

TAYLOR
Mrs. Algie F. Taylor of 3107 Fourth Ave. died April 3, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

TEBAY
Mrs. Hilda E. Tebay, 84, passed away April 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband, William H. Tebay; daughter, Janie T. Singleton and her husband, D.W.; three grandsons, Brian, Michael, and David Singleton; a sister, Bertha Haverfield of Fort Myers, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the home of Janie and D.W. Singleton. The memorial service will be Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall on Walton Park Lane. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, Inc., 2101 Executive Dr., Hampton, Va.

TINSLEY
Nellie Arlington Willis Tinsley, 86, of Rockville, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She was a member of Springfield Christian Church, a daughter of the late Herbert N. and Eva Hicks Willis and the widow of Hunter C. Tinsley. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Susan Tinsley; two grandchildren, Aimee and Brent; a sister, Charlotte Pearce. The remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Springfield Christian Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060, or Springfield Christian Church, Route 1, Box 130, Rockville, Va. 23146.

WILLIAMS
Mae Purcell Thornton Williams, age 101, and a lifelong resident of Gloucester, died at Sanders Nursing Home April 2, 2001. She was a graduate of Achilles High School. Also, Mae taught the fourth grade class at Hayes School as well as managed the cafeteria. Mrs. Williams was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a charter member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church and a member of the York River Circle of the Kings Daughters. Survivors include one daughter, Cornelia W. Hogge and her husband, Graham; two sons, W. Lee Williams and wife, Dorris, Cabot Hayes Williams and wife, Joyce; one sister, Miriam T. Wilburn; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Timothy B. Kirby Sr. and the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Wilkins will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church social hall following interment and at other times, their homes. In her memory, memorial contributions may be made to Gloucester Point Baptist Church, Attn: Building Fund, Box 305, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062 or a favorite charity.

ALLEN
Mrs. Bessie J. Allen, formerly of 3105 "N" Street, died September 12, 2002. Remains rest at Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" Street. Funeral notice later.

BROADDUS
Anne Campbell Broaddus, 86, of Salem, formerly of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002. Born Anne Hill Campbell to Dr. Clarence Campbell and Pearl Smoot Campbell of Sparta, she graduated from Sparta High School and Fredericksburg State Teachers College, now Mary Washington College. She taught one year in Fauquier County and three years at Mica School in Caroline. Survivors include her husband, William E. Broaddus; a daughter, Anne Broaddus Harris of Swan Valley, Idaho; a son, William E. Broaddus Jr. of Union Hall; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Friday, September 13, 2002 at Bowling Green Baptist Church. Burial followed in Lakewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bowling Green Baptist Church Building Fund, Box 543, Bowling Green, Va. 22427. Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green is handling the arrangements.

BURRUSS
Francis Atwell Burruss, 93, of Richmond, died September 12, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hannah Elizabeth Walker Burruss; two sisters, Katherine Burruss Holland and Hannah Burruss Swortzel; and three brothers, William Walker Burruss, Henry Walker Burruss and George Granville Burruss. He is survived by many devoted family members and friends, including 12 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, 18 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and one great-great-great-niece. Mr. Burruss received his undergraduate degree in math and science from Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, Va. (1931), and his graduate degree in education from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. (1951). He was a high school teacher and principal in the Virginia school systems of the Town of West Point and the Counties of Accomack (Tangier Island), Halifax and Madison. He also taught for one year in Japan at the American School. He concluded his teaching career in Richmond working with the visually handicapped. He served in the 66th Army Air Force Base Unit during WWII as a forecaster and weather observer from 1942 until 1945, and his foreign service included assignment to China, Burma, India in 1944. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lawrenceville, Va. and Brookland United Methodist Church in Richmond, where he taught Sunday School for many years. Mr. Burruss was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a great love for the outdoors. A service of interment will be held Sunday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Burruss family Cemetery, Reedy Mill Rd. in Caroline County. A memorial service will follow on Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. at Brookland United Methodist Church in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to The Frank and Elizabeth Walker Burruss Scholarship Fund at Randolph-Macon College, P.O. Box 5005, Ashland, Va. 23005, or to Brookland United Methodist Church, 2501 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, Va. 23230.

CASKEY
Juanita Davis Caskey, 90, of Irvington, widow of Hubert E. Caskey, died September 12, 2002. She was past regent of Cobbs Hall DAR and organizing member and first president of the Lettice Lee Chapter of Colonial Dames XVIIth Century and member of the Huguenot Society. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, J. Caskey and Frederick A. Olverson of Lottsburg; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick E. and Shirley Kay Caskey of Rochester, Minn,; one grandson, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, one nephew. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's White Chapel, Lively. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.

CLARK
Sara Howell Clark, age 91, of the Masonic Home of Virginia, died Thursday, September 12, 2002. She was the widow of Arthur L. Clark Sr. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur L. Clark Jr. of High Point, N.C., Beverly J. and Janet B. Clark of Richmond and James C. and Patricia C. Clark of Sandston; a brother, Charles Howell and his wife, Joyce of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, Va. 23223.

Leroy Cousins Jr., 45, departed this life Wednesday, September 11, 2002. The staff of W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving his family.

CRANDALL
Lorell George Crandall, 77, of Foxwells, died Thursday, September 12, 2002. She was born February 4, 1925 to Reubon and Winnie George. She was a lifelong and devoted member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Eugene Crandall; her parents; a brother, Lindy George; and a sister, Rubynette G. Dameron. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria C. and Robert B. Conley of Lancaster and Debra C. and Gerald L. Abbott of Kilmarnock; a son and daughter-in-law, T. Leroy and Marianette H. Crandall of White Stone; five grandchildren, Amy Passagaluppi and her husband, Randy of Farnham, Martha Smith and her husband, Bill of Kilmarnock, Tyler Crandall of White Stone, Jessica and Alex Abbott of Kilmarnock; a great-granddaughter, Brooke Passagaluppi of Farnham; a great-grandson, Karas Smith of Kilmarnock; sisters, Edna Cox of Texas and DeLoris Dodson of Miskimon; and one aunt, Dorothy Benson of Weems. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2002 at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Foxwells. Interment White Stone Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 14, 2002, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.

DABNEY
Homegoing services for Mr. Major F. Dabney, who departed this life September 8, 2002 will be Monday, September 16, 2002 at 1 p.m. from the First Mount Olive Baptist Church, Newtown, Va. with the Reverend Robert D. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday evening 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. The family will assemble at the residence at 12:15 p.m. on Monday. He is survived by two sons, Leroy (Celina) Dabney and Shawn (Tonya) Dabney; two daughters, Maria (Gerard) Hence and Angela Taylor; three brothers, Andrew T., Roy S. and Wallace T. Dabney; his stepmother, Floretta Pointer; stepsister, Joyce Pugh and twelve grandchildren. Professional services entrusted to White-Tidewater Funeral Home, Jamaica, Va.

DENTON
Mildred K. Denton, 77, of Doswell, Va., passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 quietly in her sleep. She was the widow of Julius A. Denton Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Judith E. Watkins and Clara E. Chandler and her husband, Walter; and two sons, Shawn W. and his wife, Teresa and Thomas W. Denton and his wife, Diane; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Watkins and her fiance, C.L. George, Rebecca Noelle Turner, Nicholas Andrew Denton, Haley Elizabeth Denton, Tiffany Kerrick, Joseph Denton, Jennifer Denton, Jennifer Smith and Lara Jones; one brother, Edward Prendergast; and one sister, Mary E. Holman, both of Arizona; four sisters-in-law, Bessie Satterfield, Clara Hitchens, Pearl Denton and Venda Denton; and one brother-in-law, Edward Denton. Mrs. Denton retired from the Richmond Times-Dispatch after 23 years of service.

DIXON
Inez C. Dixon, 88, of Midlothian, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died September 12, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.E. Dixon and is survived by a son, Daniel W. Dixon and his wife, Kay; two sisters, Helen Clark and Mildred Dowell; a granddaughter, Lisa Ann Dixon; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, N.C. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church Discretionary Fund.
