Mrs. Hazel Pettway Herr, 77, of Chester, Va., passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001 at Colonial Heights Convalescent Center. She is survived by her husband, Stanford F. Herr of Chester, one daughter, Diane H. Atkinson and husband, Bill of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, one sister-in-law, and two nephews, and one niece. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Thigpen officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Prince George County. Minnie Addie Hodges, 85, of Richmond, widow of Earl Hodges, died Thursday, August 9, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Howard Hodges and his wife, Barbara and Carl "Jimmy" Hodges and his wife, Mary; her two sisters, Frances Stanley and Dot Cole; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary Merritt Mackin, age 77, of Richmond, died Friday, August 10, 2001. She is survived by her son, Timothy J. Mackin of Prince George; one granddaughter, Kimberly Vogle; two grandsons, Anthony and Christopher Mackin; six great-grandchildren; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. Victoria Barker McMillen of Richmond, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001 after a short illness. A native of Martins Ferry, Ohio, she was the widow of Charles McMillen, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Paula McMillen; her grandson and his wife, Eric and Jennifer Beazley McMillen; one great-grandson, Matthew; and her sister, Elizabeth Ream of Cape Coral, Fla. Carrie Brooks McTyre, age 84, of Howertons, Va., died August 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Wright T. McTyre; two daughters, Betty M. MILLER
Alfred (Al) Francis Miller, 83, of Richmond, entered his new life on August 12, 2001. He was born in Richmond on May 30, 1918. He was preceded by his wife of 52 years, Ruby Harper Miller; his brothers, William, Carl, Paul, Dan, Rudolph and Maurice; and his grandson, Lt. Paul Alfred Ambrogi. He is survived by his daughters, Ruth Miller Ambrogi and her husband, Franco, and Marie Miller Calouche and her husband, Samir; six grandchildren, Maria Ambrogi Reardon and her husband, Kevin, Mark Ambrogi and his wife, Rosita, Anthony Ambrogi and his wife, Laura, Philip, Caroline and Joseph Calouche, five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Readon, Matthew Readon, Matias Ambrogi, Marco Tomas Ambrogi and Maria Teresa Ambrogi; his sisters-in-law, Helen H. Miller and Pattie H. Temple; a nephew, Paul T. Miller Jr. and other relatives and close friends, among them, Russell and Sarah Jones, and Lucille Blackard. Al proudly served the United States Army Air Force for over three years during WWII and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war, Al worked for many years as a salesman for Ford Motor Company's Tractor Division. He later worked in real estate and for the State of Virginia from which he retired. He continued to work for 17 years at Franco's Fine Clothier in Richmond. He was a lifetime parishioner at St. Benedict Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion. He was known to everyone as a truly good man, a devoted husband, a dear father, and a remarkable storyteller. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 300 N. Sheppard Street, with interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family requests that contributions be made to the Lt. Paul A. Garnett T. Moltz of Richmond, widow of Charles Edward Moltz Jr., died Saturday, August 11, 2001. She is survived by one son, Chuck Moltz of Newport News; one daughter, Betty Arnold; and grandson, Roger Arnold Jr., both of Richmond. Mrs. Moltz was a member of First Baptist Church. T. Lewis Morris, age 84, of Amelia, died August 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Velmaleen Puryear Morris; his son, Sam; granddaughters, Bekki and Beth; and grandson, Sammy; stepsons, Johnny, Barry and Mark Puryear; stepdaughter, Becky Watson; nine step-granchildren, two step-great-grandchildren. OLDHAM
Katherine Calhoun Oldham of Mechanicsville, was born September 23, 1917 in Hamilton, Ga. and died August 11, 2001. She was the widow of Anderson M. "Andy" Oldham. Mrs. Oldham graduated from Mercer University and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Library Science from Emory University. She worked as a librarian at the Mechanicsville Branch of Pamunkey Regional Library before retiring. Mrs. Oldham was a devoted member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsville, where she had been a faithful choir member and a member of the Forum Class. Lillian R. Perlow, of Richmond, died August 11, 2001. She was the widow of Martin W. Perlow and is survived by her daughter, Norma E. Woods of Gaithersburg, Md.; her grandchildren, Stuart Lee Buchbinder of Gaithersburg, Md. and Janet Lynn Valdivia of Germantown, Md.; and several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Mrs. Perlow received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Goddard College. She was a certified graphoanalyst and a distinguished member of the American Board of Forensic Examiners, and ABFE Fellow, and certified in behavioral profiling. Graveside services will be held Monday (today) 2 p.m.at Greenwood Memorial Gardens OR-AMI.

Thomas Scott Stephens, 77, of Richmond, died August 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Louise Armstrong Stephens; two sons, Thomas S. Stephens II and his wife, Johna Pierce Stephens and their daughter, Rachael Stephens of Davidsonville, Md., and Timothy H. Stephens and his wife, Lisa Bryant Stephens and their son, Walker Stephens; and one daughter, Brooke C. Stephens. Mr. Stephens enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 when he was 17, and participated in the Pacific Campaign. He was a charter member of the Old Dominion Chapter of the 1st Marine Division, a life member of the Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans, the Marine Corps League, First Marine Division Association, Third Marine Division Association and the Marine Corps Association. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2001, 2 p.m. at Trinity Assembly of God, 233 North Courthouse Rd. Robert "Bob" B. Ward, 77, of Chesterfield County, departed this life on Saturday, August 11, 2001. Survived by his wife, Dora Whitley Ward and two daughters, Elizabeth Masters and her husband, Richard L. Masters and Sandra Krajacich and her husband, Nick G. Krajacich; three grandchildren, Malynda Gale, Nick W. Krajacich, Capt. C.A. Krajacich, USMC and his wife, Deborah; four great-grandchildren, Samuel, Emily, Holly, and Xhevdet; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and the Bay of Pigs. He was a member of the VFW and the Loyal Order of Moose. Services will be held at the Chippenham Chapel, Bliley's Funeral Home, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2001. Charles Steven "Steve" White, age 54, died Friday, August 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary White; one son, Brien White; one daughter, Amy White; his mother, Norma White of Richmond; one sister, Lynne White Blankenship and her husband, Melvin of Powhatan; his stepmother, Josephine M. White; one stepbrother, Dean Martin and his wife, Mitzi of Roanoke; one stepsister, Sharon Hayes of Glen Allen. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Stanley White.
