MURRAY
Matthew Edward Murray, 92, of Colonial Heights, Va., died Friday, March 1, 2002. Born in Waterford, N.Y., he also resided in Albany, N.Y. and Winter Springs, Fla. He was a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the Army School of Civilian Personnel Administration and from the Allen School of Commerce. Eddie, as he was known, devoted all of his working years to public service, a total of 50 years. He first worked for public works of New York State, then as Industrial Relations Officer at Schenectady Army Depot, and finally as Civilian Personnel Officer at Fort Lee, Va., from which he retired in 1978. His many citations include the Exceptional Civilian Service Award, the highest Department of the Army recognition for a civilian, the Commander's Award for the Civilian Service, and the Department of the Army Meritorious Award. Mr. Murray was married to the late Olga Nahow Murray for 69 years. She also recently died. He was the son of the late Matthew and Annie Murray. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, Gerald and John; and two sisters, Mary M. Hudson and Loretta M. Rogan. Survivors include brother-in-law, Dr. Theodore Nahow of Florida and sisters-in-law, Jean Murray of East Aurora, N.Y., Rosemary H. Murray of Albany, N.Y., and Kathleen N. Kammer of Longwood, Fla. Mr. Murray was a loving uncle to 12 nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Becky and Howard C. Jones of Colonial Heights, Va. Interment services will be held in Mechanicville, N.Y. for Mr. Murray and his late wife at at later date. "It was a great love story". Arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights, Va.

OKAMOTO
Donald Peter Okamoto, 74, of Petersburg, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 in Southside Regional Medical Center. He was born on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and was the son of the late Kisuke and Sophie Guerrero Okamoto. He retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major and was a veteran of three wars, serving during the latter portion of WWII, the Korean Conflict and twice in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Okamoto; four sons, Michael Okamoto, Leonard Okamoto, Donald Peter Okamoto Jr. and Daryl Stokes; seven daughters, Wynona Redford, Nora Baldacci, Mililani Medina, Dinah Temple, Beth Davis, Missy Stokes and Karen Lamkin; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two siblings, Mililani Anderson and Wynona Aricayos. A Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Bob Spencer officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held Tuesday, 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the family receiving friends after the service until 9 p.m.

PETRIC
Margaret "Mickey" Petric, 74, of Richmond, passed away March 1, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia; sons, John, Daniel, and Robert; a granddaughter, Caroline; sisters, Kathleen, Rosemary, Dorothy, Mary Ellen, Patricia Ann; and her brothers, Donovan, Richard, Sidney, John. She was the former president of the Women's Club at Carriage Hill. She will also be remembered for her many good works and acts of kindness. She raised her family in Ohio and returned to Richmond upon the birth of her granddaughter. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2002 at the Bliley Funeral Home's, Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd.

ROSE
Mrs. Inez Rose of Richmond departed this life Sunday, March 3, 2002. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

RUSSELL
Louise Ella Russell formally of 210 Hospital St. entered eternal rest February 27, 2002. Cherishing her memories are one devoted daughter, Patricia E. Russell; one grandson, Berkley M. Mosley Jr.; one granddaughter, Cassandra Russell; one brother-in-law, Clearana Venable; and host of other relatives and friends. A eulogist service will be conducted Tuesday, 1 p.m. at the All Faiths Chapel, 212 E. Leigh St., Rev. Kenneth Dennis Sr. officiating. Professional services entrusted to the: A D PRICE FUNERAL HOME

SHOOK
Ryan Lee Shook, age 23, of Keysville, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. Surviving are his father, Robert L. Shook Jr.; mother, Carolyn Wilson Morton of Charlotte Court House; paternal grandparents, Boots and Elizabeth Shook of Keysville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ash Camp Baptist Church, with interment in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

SMELLEY
Gertrude Agnes Falk Smelley, 89, of Carson, died March 1, 2002 at her residence. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Elmo Smelley; and a son, Alvin Carleton "Bud" Smelley, she is survived by one daughter, Elva S. Williams of Carson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty June Pratt and Charlie Pratt of Williamsburg, Mary Ellen Pratt and Millard M. Pratt of Carson, Peggy S. Lewis and Jack Lewis of Carson; one daughter-in-law, Russell "Sugar" Smelley of Chesterfield, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Georgia F. Conwell of Chantilly, Va., Elizabeth F. Smelley of Petersburg, Janis F. Toombs of Carson; and a brother, Earl Falk of Bull Head City, Ariz. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Livesay officiating. The interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

SMITH
Miss Alberta F. Smith, 97, died on March 2, 2002 in Virginia Beach HealthCare Center. She was born in Sussex County and lived in Petersburg for over 50 years. She moved to Ocean Park community in Virginia Beach in 1988 to be close to family. She was the daughter of the late Albert Frederick and Edith Browning Smith. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Howard Watt, and Pauline and Joseph Brown. She is survived by a nephew and wife, Joseph and Ann Brown of Greensboro, N.C.; niece and husband, Paula and John Demosthenes of Virginia Beach; three great-nephews and wives, Joseph and Cassandra Brown of Greensboro, Michael and Karen Brown of Clemons, N.C., and Larry and Debbie Brown of the Ukraine; a great-niece, Maris Demosthenes of Virginia Beach; and friend, Clare Griffin. Miss Smith was a teacher and principal of Ettrick Elementary of the Chesterfield County School system for over 40 years. After retirement, she was an active member of Washington Street Methodist Church. In 1992, she was honored to have a new elementary school named for her - Alberta F. Smith Elementary School in Chesterfield County. She enjoyed hearing from colleagues, students, and friends and was touched by their care and concern over the years. The family wishes to thank the staff and HealthCare professionals at Virginia Beach HealthCare Center and Mary Mayfield for their loyalty, concern, and loving compassionate care. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 5 at 1 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. in the chapel at J.T. Morriss Funeral Home in Petersburg. The burial will be for the family at Southlawn Cemetery. The family requests friends join for a reception at Washington Street Methodist Church following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington Street Methodist Church or a charity of choice.

SPENCER
Whitcomb Pratt Spencer, 85, of Farmville, died March 2, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Joyce B. Spencer; three sisters, Mary E. Steger of Huntsville, Ala., Florence B. Willett of Texas, and Meredith S. Staton of Dillwyn; a brother, Franklin Spencer of Buckingham. Funeral services will be held Monday, 3 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in St. Andrews Baptist Church.

STROTHER
Dorothy Orell Phelps Strother, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Leland Strother; four daughters, Linda Robinson, Vicky Nunn, Brenda Strother and Tammy Beverley; two sisters, Lois Bass and Judy Stargell; three brothers, Prentiss Phelps Jr., Raymond Phelps and Robert Phelps; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and where services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Lelia R. Terry of 1712 Dakota Avenue, entered eternal rest February 24, 2002. Cherishing her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Terry (Gloria); two grandchildren, Bonita Martinez and Ray Jiggetts; three sisters; one brother; four sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. ADKINS-SUTTON
Departed this life December 7, 2001, Mrs. Lenora E. "Boo Boo" Adkins-Sutton of 3505 Chamberlayne Ave., Apartment A204. She was preceded in death by two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Keith D. Sutton; one son, Frederick A. Adkins Sr.; her parents, William McDonald Sr. and Carrie E. Adkins; grandchildren, Frederick Jr. and Frenequia; two sisters; five brothers; two grandmothers, Carrie Adkins and Lenora McDonald; four aunts; four uncles; 11 nieces; six nephews; four great-nieces; six great-nephews; mother-in-law, Annie Wright; daughter-in-law, Portia A. Adkins; three brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Thursday 1 p.m. Rev. Kenneth Minor officiating. ALLEN
MacArthur Allen departed this life Friday, December 7, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Carter Allen; one daughter, Sonja Allen Davis; a granddaughter, Aisha Lauren Davis; mother, Carrie J. Allen; six brothers, Howard, Albert, Henry, Charles, Jerry and Earl; five sisters, Elsie Cobb, Ethel Johnson, Rosie Allen, Jean Garrett and Ella Banks; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 12 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2811 Fendall Ave., Rev. A. Lincoln James, pastor, officiating. Interment in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Buckingham County, Va. After 11 a.m. remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church Thursday, 11:30 a.m.

ANGLE
B. Frederick Angle died Sunday, December 9, 2001. He was employed by Refugee and Immigration Services where he was educational liason for refugees in the Richmond area. He was a local resident for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Terry S. Angle of Richmond; his daughter, Katherine Angle of Richmond; his son, Peter Angle of Richmond; his mother, Mrs. Maxine S. Angle of Richmond; and his brothers, John B. Angle and George M. Angle. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 13, at 11 a.m. at the Chruch of the Holy Comforter. Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Indian Foundation, 100 W. Cole Ave., Gallup, N.M. 87305 or to the Refugee and Immigration Services.

BARNUM
Kermit Barnum of 1400 Grove Ave. died December 6, 2001. Surviving are three sisters, one brother, one aunt, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home.

BOUCHIER
William "Billy" Mikhail Bouchier, age 19, was taken suddenly on December 7, 2001. Survived by his parents, Thomas and Marina Bouchier; sister, Amie; grandparents, Douglas and Elsie Bouchier, Minneapolis, Polina Pochtar and Moisey Sery, Richmond; aunts and uncles; Isai Pochtar, Linda Krueger (Duane), Jeanne Schnack (Thomas), Janice Hanson (Willard), Patricia Nehring (James) and many cousins and friends. Graduate of Midlothian High School, and was due to graduate from ECPI Technical College in February. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Billy Bouchier Memorial Fund. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel.
