Mrs. Alva Patrom Kilby of Chesterfield County departed this life very peacefully Thursday, August 9, 2001. Mrs. Kilby retired from the Chesterfield County Public Schools after having taught for more than four decades in the area of Early Childhood Education. She was also a deaconess and Sunday School teacher for many years at the First Baptist Church, Centralia, of which her grandmother was one of the founders. Preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, she is survived by two sisters, Nellie Z. and Magnolia L. Patrom of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Daniel (Billy) A. and Oakley W. (Ethel) Patrom, also of Richmond; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, three first cousins, four other sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and inumerable other cousins and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday, August 15, at First Baptist Church, Centralia, 2920 Kingsdale Road, Richmond, Va., Dr. Wilson E.B. Shannon, pastor. The remains will be available for viewing at 10 a.m. until hour of service. Family and friends assemble at the Church at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Endowment Fund of First Baptist, Centralia.

Mr. George A. Lewis departed this life August 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nina H. Lewis; stepdaughter, Verna Jones; one granddaugher, Cynthia Jones; three sisters; seven brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Coley Lozy, 44, was joined in heaven Saturday, August 11, 2001 at Lake Gaston, N.C. as the result of a boating accident. She was a native of Norfolk and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a daughter of Mildred Elaine Lancaster Barber of Norfolk and the late James Franklin Barber. She was the beloved wife of George Michael Lozy. Cindy was a retired owner of CJ's Automotive Inc., a member of Kempsville Baptist Church, the National Automotive Dealers' Association, and the Better Business Bureau. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Christina Elaine Mathis; one stepson, Shawn Michael Lozy and his wife, Leslie A.; one stepdaughter, Angela Lozy Weddle and her husband, Steven E., all of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Anthony L. Coley and Vernon W. Coley, both of Norfolk and William D. George Michael Lozy, 56, was joined in heaven Saturday, August 11, 2001 at Lake Gaston, N.C. as the result of a boating accident. A native of Central Falls, Rhode Island, he had lived in Virginia Beach the past 39 years. He was a son of Pauline Oulette Lozy of Cumberland, R.I. He was predeceased by his father, Louis E. Lozy and a brother, Ronald J. Lozy. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia Diane Coley Lozy. George was a Catholic, a member of the National Automotive Dealers' Association, the Better Business Bureau, and Tanglewood Shores Golf & Country Club in Bracy, Va. Virginia Giannotti Powers of Mechanicsville died August 12, 2001. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Millie and Herman Brock, Dale and Carol Powers, Jeanne and Bill Reeves, and Janice and Ed Machalski; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Delores Elam; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Powers was a past matron of Mizpah Chapter #32 O.E.S. She was retired from the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind, a volunteer for Mechanicsville Little League, Hanover Department of Parks and Recreation, and at Regional Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Third Christian Church. Mina Sue Ritchie of Richmond died August 9, 2001. Ms. Ritchie, formerly of Harrisonburg, was the daughter of the late Nina and Russell Ritchie of Harrisonburg. Ms. Ritchie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Sarah Ritchie; two nephews, Colby and Cory Ritchie, all of Mt. Crawford; and one niece, Courtney Grove of Bridgewater, Va.; as well as numerous friends, including Trudy Miller, her friend and caregiver. Dewey E. Ritter, 72, of Chesterfield, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 12, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Alan Ritter and his wife, Lynn, Troy Ritter and his wife, Colleen and Robin Ritter and his wife, Eleanor; a brother, Pete Ritter and his wife, Evelyn; and grandchildren, Jason, Megan, Corie, Rachel, Zach, Trey, Jessica, Kimberly and Brittany. Mr. Ritter aired on WTVR-6 for six years as the host of the "Dewey Ritter and the Country Music Time Show." He was a frequent performer at the New Dominion Barn Dance and was a well known musician throughout the area. He was also the innaugural president of the Virginia Chapter of the Country Music Association. Mr. Ritter was a beloved father and grandfather (Poppy) and will be missed by all. Edward Poindexter Snead of Richmond passed away August 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Inge Snead; three children, Kent P. Snead and his wife, Margie of Powell, Ohio; Karen S. Nelson and her husband, Tommy of Richmond and Jill S. Age of Virginia Beach; one stepson, Grant Salstrom and his wife, Pat, and their son, Chris; six grandchildren, Wendy Carnes, Teri Long, Robert Snead, Jackie Snead, Krista Nelson and Brandon Nelson; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Admiral William Snead, USN (ret.) and Charles D. Snead. Dr. Snead attended the University of Virginia, where he graduated with a B.A. degree. He continued his education and received a Masters of Commerce degree from the University of Richmond and a Juris Doctor Law degree from the College of William and Mary. Dr. Snead was employed by the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 1980. Ruth Wiseman Stewart, 91, died Monday, August 13, 2001 at Waverly Healthcare Center in Waverly, Va. She was the daughter of the late Richard A. and Bessie W. Wiseman, and wife of the late Edward Lee Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was an accomplished poet with many of her works published. She retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation's Richmond office in 1975 and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hopewell, Va. She is survived by three daughters, Elinor S. Antis of Wakefield, Dorothy A. Stewart of Greenbelt, Md., and Rose S. Ford of Prince George County, Va.; one brother, Roland A. Wiseman of Prince George County; one half sister, Bessie S. Hart of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
