Beatrice "Bea" L. Harrison of Powhatan, formerly of McDowell Co., W.Va., died January 18, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Linda S. Ross of Powhatan; a brother, Ray Boyd of Fayetteville, W.Va.; three sisters, Evelyn Martin of Spencer, Juanita Whitaker of Richmond and Maxine Heckert of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Vadnell Baily Hylton, 72, of Cumberland, Va., departed this life on January 18, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, L.A.; her son, Kevin and his wife Diane; and two beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia. Survivors also include sister, Marie Dalton of Dover, Del.; and brother, Drexel Baily of Linnville, N.C. Vad was born in Princeton, W.Va. and was a longtime resident of Henrico, Va. A memorial service will take place at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church in Cumberland Courthouse on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Central Virginia or the American Cancer Society.

John Walter Little, 101, of Richmond, Va., passed away January 18, 2001. He is survived by three daughters, Lillie Ruth Baldwin, Julia Mae Neville and Anne Louise Hoover. He is also survived by two stepsons, Billy Joe Marshall and family, and Gary Marshall and family; 18 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Little worked his adult life as a machinist at the American Tobacco Co. After retiring from there, he worked as a security guard until the age of 84. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., where services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park, West Hundred Rd., following services.

Lenice M. Mann of Richmond went to eternal rest January 17, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Mann and is survived by her children, David L., Rusty and Walter Stephen Mann; twin brother, Leonard Moore and his wife, Evelyn; sister, Agnes Janisch; sister-in-law, Althea Moore; five grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Michael, Matthew and Brittany Mann; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mann was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and was a retired executive secretary with Philip Morris with 21 years of service. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church followed by interment in Dale Memorial Park.

Joseph Lloyd Manson Jr., 80, of Blackstone, died January 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nan Copley Manson; his son, Joseph Lloyd Manson III of Alexandria; two daughters, Mary Virginia Manson of Richmond and Dr. Nancy Manson Coddington of Manakin-Sabot; four grandchildren, Martha Stuart Manson, Joseph Scott Manson, Rachel

Jones of Crewe. Mr. Manson was a 1941 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, president of Barrow Grocery Company in Blackstone, and was a lifelong member of Crenshaw United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, at the Crenshaw United Methodist Church, Blackstone, followed by private family interment. MIDYETTE
James Webb Midyette Jr., 75, died January 17, 2001. Mr. Midyette was born on July 28, 1925 to James Webb and Eula Rollins Midyette in Fredericksburg, Va. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree, after serving in the European and Pacific Theatres with the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Midyette retired as director of administration of the Virginia State Department of Agriculture in 1985 where his career spanned four decades. He served in many professional associations and was president of the American Seed Control Officials. Mr. Midyette was a member and fellow in the Virginia Academy of Science, serving on the committee that created the Science Museum of Virginia. He was past commander of American Legion Post 206, past president of the Ashland Kiwanis Club and lieutenant governor of the Capitol District. Mr. Midyette was the secretary of the Ashland War Memorial Association, past president of the Independence Ruritan Club, a member of the Central Virginia Men's Garden Club and a charter member of the Hanover Country Club. After retirement, Mr. Midyette enjoyed volunteering at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and at Ashland Hanover Visitor's Center. He was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and had served on the board of trustees and as superintendent of Sunday school. Mr. Midyette is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucille Pope Midyette; daughter, Anne Reid Midyette of Virginia Beach; sons, James Webb Midyette III and his wife, Mary Dinardo Midyette of Chesapeake, John Pope Midyette and his wife, Donna Shields Midyette of Hanover; and four grandchildren, Jamie, Lauren, Jackson and Michael Midyette. Mr. Midyette is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Margaret M. Leinbach of Urbanna and Mrs. Nancy M. Hypes of Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends at the Reid Funeral Home on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A service will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland at noon on Saturday with burial at Woodland Cemetery. Garry L. Morrison, age 43, of Richmond, Va., died January 13, 2001 at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va. A native of Portsmouth, Va., Mr. Morrison was a senior accountant with Liquidation.com. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, Va., and a graduate of Norfolk State University with a degree in accounting. Survivors include his spouse, Faye J. Mr. John Walton Murphy of Maple Avenue, Halifax, Va., died January 17, 2001 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County, Va. on March 8, 1926 and was 74 years old. He was the son of Mr. Joe Douglas Murphy Sr. and Mrs. Onnie Wood Murphy and was married to Helen Elizabeth Lea Murphy. He was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church, was on the town council in Halifax for 12 years and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. John Walton Murphy is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverley M. Minix and husband, Gerald L. Sr. of Lynchburg, Lea M. Pruitt and husband, Luther W. of Madison Heights, Martha M. Dayberry and husband, Douglas A. of Midlothian; six grandchildren, Lee Minix and wife, Annie of Appomattox, Charles Minix of Lynchburg, Casey and John Pruitt of Madison Heights, Andrew and Rachel Dayberry of Midlothian. Luise Wyatt Patterson died on January 17, 2001. She was born on July 24, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, Va., the daughter of the late Ethel and A. Jackson Wyatt. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Patterson Jr.; three children, India P. Gregory, Robert H. Patterson III and Margaret P. Mansfield, all of Richmond; six grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Shotwell; and four brothers, Benjamin Wyatt, Jack H. Wyatt, Bill H. Wyatt and Mac H. Wyatt. Mrs. Patterson attended Madison College and was a member of The Woman's Club, the Garden Club of Goochland, the Woman's Board of the Virginia Home for Boys, and the Chapel Guild of the University of Richmond. RANDALL
Mrs. Bernice Squire Randall, 97, the widow of Henry Denison Randall, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, after a long illness. She was the daughter of Charles David and Eleanor Rightmyre Squire of Vaughn, N.C., the last surviving of their five daughters and two sons. She leaves three nieces, Eleanor Whitehead Straffin, Jane Willcoxon Councill and Nancy Squire Schroeder; two nephews, John Weir Willcoxon III and Charles Clifton Squire; and 22 great-nieces and nephews. Three nephews predeceased her, Edwin Hill Whitehead Jr., Charles William Whitehead and Claude Montreville Whitehead Jr. The Randalls were married in Richmond in 1941, but lived mostly in Falls Church, Va., while he worked in the Office of the Director of Defense in the Pentagon. She was a long-term volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. After he took early retirement, they traveled extensively in North and South America and Europe. Avid sailors, they raced and cruised Chesapeake Bay in their sailboat "The Sabrina" and were active members of the Alberg 30 Association until his death in 1998. Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Ruth Piercy Rockwell, age 80, of La Crosse, died Thursday, January 18, 2001. She was the owner and operator of the La Crosse Hotel for many years and was well known for her delicious meals. She was predeceased by her parents, Chappel and Minnie Piercy; and two brothers, Bill and Bud Piercy. She was the widow of J. Byron Rockwell and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Tom Lee of South Hill; two granddaughters and their husbands, Natalie and Steve
Carter of South Hill, Marti and Brian Scott of Richmond; and one beloved great-granddaughter, Camryn Carter. She also leaves a sister, Annie Lou Allgood of South Hill; a brother, Corky and his wife, Bobbie Piercy of South Hill; and a brother, Wallace Piercy of La Crosse; a much beloved niece, Betty Burnette of South Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.
