CONNELL
Blanche Stephenson Connell, 94, of Richmond, widow of Dan T. Connell, died Thursday, March 14, 2002. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Connell was born in Garysburg, N.C. She was a graduate of the MCV Nursing School and was a member of Reveille United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16 in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Edythe Massey Pfeiffer Cooper, age 88, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 13, 2002. Edy retired to Gwynn's Island in 1965. She was a longtime member of Gwynn's Island Baptist Church and played the piano during the summers at Campers Haven Campground, Gwynn's Island, until last year. She will be missed by many dear friends at both places. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Firth; husband, Norman Pfeiffer; husband, Samuel Cooper; and son, Buddy Firth. She is survived by two sons, W. Raymond Pfeiffer and wife, Susan of Chester, Va.; son, Richard T. Pfeiffer of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Joanne Silva and husband, Tito of Sanford, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mathew, Amanda, Becky, Andy, Patrice, Deidre and Jeff; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Celeste, and Paul; dear friends, Margie Cox, Doris and Oscar Inge, Louise and Willie Patrick, Sherry and Chris Tice and Sally and Tim O'Malley. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. in the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Gwynn's Island Cemetery. Mrs. Johnsie Pamelia Daly, born November 2, 1907 in Salisbury, N.C., the daughter of the late Moses and Lula (Rankin) Locke, and a retired counselor for Isle of Wight, died March 12, 2002. Preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Samuel Franklyn Daly, she is survived by her daughter, Alfreda Daly; her son, Algernon Daly (Jeanne Jackson Daly); her foster grandchildren, Justin Cotton and Roy Cotton Jr.; and a host of nieces, among them devoted Gwendolyn Alexander; nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Louis Mann Dart, 92, of Richmond, died March 13, 2002. He was preceded in death by his son, Louis Mann Dart Jr. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Young Dart; two daughters, Patricia Ann Dilbeck and her husband, Anthony Mark Dilbeck and Maria Lynn Dart; one sister, Virginia Wallmeyer; and two grandchildren, Courtney Michelle Fleming and Bradley David Fleming. Mr. Dart was a graduate of Benedictine High School and Villanova University. He was a member of the Sierra Club and was retired owner of Maxwelton Manufacturing Company. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Saint Bridget's Catholic Church. Estrella Ann Austin Everett left this earth to live with her Lord Jesus, March 13, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Richmond, Va. and a member of Cosby Baptist Church. Estrella and her twin sister were born to Ann and Cecil Austin on June 27, 1937. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil and her baby twin sister. She is survived by her mother, Ann Austin; her sons and their wives, Jeff and Bonnie Everett of Hampton and Mark and Tammi Everett of Bedford; a brother, Victor Austin; three sisters, Sandra Austin, Barbara Klaffky, all of Richmond, and Juanita Heath of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Ember , Josh and Dalton; and numerous nieces and nephews . James Bernard Frazier, age 82, departed this life March 10, 2002 at the VA Medical Center. He is survived by his daughter, Audrey F. Gillison and her husband, George; one granddaughter, Angel; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews, one devoted, Cary Fox Jr. He also leaves to mourn Carlton, Sonny and Roy, his special sons; other relatives and friends. Patrick (Pat) Reinhold Freiseis, 20, dreamed that God would lead him and He did. He set his kind spirit free on his journey March 10, 2002. Patrick of Midlothian and a second year student at VCU was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Sebastian Freiseis. He is survived by his loving parents, Ruth and Reinhold Freiseis; sister, Sarah; two brothers, Philip and Thomas Freiseis, all of Midlothian; maternal grandparents, Rev. Ray and Helen Gentry of Memphis, Tenn.; paternal grandmother, Franziska Freiseis of St. Leon, Germany; 16 aunts and uncles, 18 cousins and many friends. Patrick was an Eagle Scout and a member of Troop 879, a member of the Order of the Arrow. Nancy Farmer Gee, 73, of Richmond, passed away peacefully March 13, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lewis M. Gee; three loving children, her daughter, Karen Gee Clarke of Dunwoody, Ga.; her daughter, Julie Gee Franklin and her husband, Lynwood of Severna Park, Md.; and her son, Robert L. Gee and his wife, Michelle of Burke, Va.; and six grandchildren, Spencer, Beth, Sarah, Lucy, Shelby and Dustin. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin L. Farmer Jr. and his wife, Rita of Richmond. Mrs. Gee graduated from John Marshall High School in 1944 and was a retired employee of the Defense General Supply Center. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. HAGER
Virgil Duke Hager, age 97, died at home on March 14, 2002. Mr. Hager was born in Louisville, Ky. to Matilda Coldewey and John Goodman Hager. He graduated from Purdue University in 1927 with a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering. He received a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve. Also at Purdue, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and lettered in water polo. He worked for the Colgate Co. in Jeffersonville, Ind., in the testing and control laboratory (1927 to 1930). In 1931 he joined American Cigar Co. in Louisville, Ky. and transferred to Richmond, Va. to the Research Department of American Tobacco Co. in 1933. He then moved to Durham, N.C. with American Tobacco Co. and became the plant manager in 1954. He became Assistant Vice President in charge of manufacturing in 1955, and was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Tobacco Co. and moved to the New York office in 1961. In 1963, he was named an Executive Vice President and held that position until he retired on June 30, 1969. He was decorated in Athens, Greece by the Greek government and given the Order of the Phoenix in recognition of distinguished service to the tobacco industry. Upon his retirement from American Tobacco Co. he returned to Durham to live. Mr. Hager was past President of Child Guidance Clinic, Hope Valley Country Club and Southern Seniors Gold Association. He was a member of the Durham Advisory Board to Duke Hospital, Friends of Watts Hospital Board, N.C. Symphony Board, elder and deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Durham and elder and President of the Board of Trustees of Irvington Presbyterian Church in Irvington in Hudson, N.Y. He served on the Board of Trustees on the Durham Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Durham Rotary Club for 64 years and received the Honorary Rotarian designation. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Rabbe Hager, to whom he was married for 71 years. He is survived by two children, John H. Hager and wife, Margaret and their two sons, Jack and Henry of Richmond, Va. and Nancy H. Rand and her husband, Kenan of Durham and their children, Dr. William Rand and wife, Kristine of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Ruth Waldrop and her husband, Al of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Virginia Bowman and her husband, John of Durham and Hager Rand and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Rand of Durham; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2002 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Howerton-Bryan Funeral Home, Durham, N.C. Margaret Atkinson Harris, 51, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 13, 2002. She is survived by her husband, James E. Harris; two sons, Aaron Thomas Nichols and Brian Patrick Harris; daughter, Catherine Rose Harris. She is also survived by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen Atkinson; her father-in-law, James Milton Harris; seven siblings, Walker Atkinson, Joyce Johnston, Mary Mills of Charlotte, N.C., John Atkinson of Gwynn, Va., David Atkinson of Moseley, Irvin Atkinson and Linda Crisp. Margie is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Margie was employed by the Virginia Municipal League since 1975. She served as assistant administrator of the Insurance Programs between 1980 and 1983 and was promoted to administrator of the VML Insurance Programs in 1983. Margie was recently honored by receiving the Risk Management Leadership Award from the League for her outstanding service to the organization. Margie was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring daughter and endearing sister. She will be greatly missed. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Penick Road, followed by a private family graveside service.
