Issac Watts King Sr., 93, of Kill Devil Hills, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001 in his home. Mr. King was born in Wilmington, N.C. and was a retired optician and owned King Optical Co. in Portsmouth, Va. Mr. King was a member and past elder of the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, past elder of Craddock Presbyterian Church, member of the Gideons, former vice mayor and Portsmouth city councilman, former member of the Transportation Commission of Hampton Roads, past president of the Portsmouth Lions Club, former commissioner of Boy Scouts of America Merrimac District, recipient of Silver Beaver Award for Outstanding Leadership, honorary member of Portsmouth Masonic Lodge No. 36, A.F.&A.M. and a Shriner. He was the son of the late Issac Watts and Rebecca King and the husband of Nona Page Stauffer King. Besides his wife, surviving are three daughters; Joyce K.
Smith of Richmond, Va., Gail Dupree and N. Kay Smith, both of Portsmouth, Va.; two sons, Issac W. King III of Buffalo Junction, Va. and John D. Page of Scotia, N.Y.; one sister, Annie Mae Eagle of Urbanna, Va.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 10, at 2 p.m. in the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church by the Rev. L. Spottswood Graves. Caroline H. Kissinger, 89, a native of New Jersey and resident of Richmond, widow of Arthur Kissinger, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret K. Mildred W. Lynn, 75, of West Point, Va., died August 6, 2001 following a long illness. Mrs. Lynn served as the West Point licensing agent for the Department of Motor Vehicles for thirteen years. She was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church in Mobjack, Va. and an active member of the Philathia Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, West Point, Va. Her parents, Holland and Hattie White, of Bohannon, Va. and her husband, James T. (Jimmy) Lynn, of West Point preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Hilton of West Point and Janet L.
Johnson of Springfield, Va.; a son, James T. (Jay) Lynn Jr. of Farmville, Va.; four grandchildren, Michael Hilton, Kenny Hilton, Reed Johnson, and Katie Lynn; and one great-grandchild, MacKenzie Hilton. She is also survived by a brother, Richard L. (Leon) White of Springfield, Va.; and four sisters, Winnie W. Thomas of Port Haywood, Va., Helen E. White of Williamsburg, Va., Audrey W. Wilson of Bristol, Tenn., and Jean H. White of Tigard, Ore. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Vincent Funeral Home followed by burial at Sunny Slope Cemetery. Raymond "John" Lynn of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Monday, August 6, 2001. He retired from Philip Morris after 33 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond A. Lynn and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sharon Lynn; his sons, Barry Lynn and his wife, Juanita, Michael Lynn and his wife, Michela, and Kevin Lynn and Robin; three grandchildren, John, Justin and Micah Lynn; devoted family member, Joan Brown; his mother, Faye Lynn of Bamburg, S.C.; four sisters, Nancy Wilson, Barbara Smith, Carolyn Hanks and Joyce Hunt; four brothers, Melton Lynn, Frankie Lynn, Jimmy Lynn and Billy Lynn. Mrs. Katie Lou Metts, age 93, died August 8, 2001 in Farmville. She was the widow of Julian Cabell Metts Sr. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Julian C. Metts Jr. of Cartersville and Wiley C. Metts of Cumberland; one sister, Mrs. Emerelda Layne of Richmond; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. MaryAnn Meyer-Toth, 39, of 3200 Glebe Point Rd., Suffolk, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was the wife of Brian J. Toth. They were married 15 years in May. She was employed as a Regional Sales Manager for Aggreko, Inc. based out of the Richmond Depot. Previously, she was employed by East Coast Leisure, Virginia Beach. She earned a Bachelor of Political Science from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa. and a Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va. Christine Whitby Moore, age 70, of Lawrenceville, Va. died August 8, 2001. Mrs. Vera Mae Phillips, formerly of 834 Seminole Drive, Suffolk, Va., departed this life on Saturday, August 4, 2001 in Richmond, Va. She was a native of Suffolk, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Louise Laury; husband, William H. Phillips; and son, Herbert L. Wynn Jr. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was also a retired nurse from Obici Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service. Her survivors include five daughters, Anntionita Alston and Una L. Phillips, both of Suffolk, Va., Valerie N. Phillips of Washington, D.C., Sharyl A. Baskfield and Joyce W. Phillips, both of Richmond, Va.; two grandsons, Reshawn L. Phillips of Suffolk, Va. and Jarrell A. Baskfield of Richmond, Va.; a granddaughter, Alexis C. Holland of Suffolk, Va.; two sons-in-law, Carrol Baskfield Jr. of Richmond, Va. and David L. Alston of Suffolk, Va.; a brother, William "Pete" Laury of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Marie L. Jordan of Suffolk, Va. and Clara L. Mr. William "Bill" Plott, age 75, of 205 West Locust St., died Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at Brian Center Nursing Care in Low Moor. He was the husband of Alicia Rentas Plott. Mr. Plott was born January 30, 1926 in Covington. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a graduate of Covington High School, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Medical College of Virginia. He was a retired pharmacist. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Alicia, Mr. Plott is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Billie P. and Steve Cooke of Richmond, Lynette P. and Paul Clements of Richmond, and Carmine Plott of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and four grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Covington. Carolyn Tuck Sechriest, 72, died August 6, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center after an illness of several months. She was a devoted wife, mother and teacher. She was born February 23, 1929 to the late Emmett Apple Tuck and Pauline Waller Tuck in Anderson, S.C., where her father was engaged as a road contractor. She spent her early life in the border town of Virgilina, Va. She attended Stratford Hall, Danville, Va., Elon College, and was graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an A.B. degree in Journalism. On September 3, 1949, she was married to Stuart Sechriest of the UNC-CH Journalism faculty. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the autumn of 1999. After raising two daughters, she returned to the University to be certified as an elementary school teacher. She commenced her teaching career in Carrboro, later transferring to Hope Valley School in Durham, where she taught the academically talented fifth grade. An avid gardener, she often remarked that she was happiest when planting and nurturing her flowers. She frequently toiled in her Mount Bolus garden from early morning until after sunset. Surviving are her husband, Stuart W. Sechriest of Chapel Hill; daughter, Mary Pauline Sechriest of Chapel Hill; daughter, Elizabeth Sechriest Cornella and her husband, Dr. Rick J. Cornella; and grandchildren, Scott, Valerie, and Kim Cornella, all of Boone; a sister, Ella Tuck Frith of Martinsville, Va.; and two brothers, Emmett A. Tuck Jr. of Virgilina, Va., and Weldon W. Tuck of Laramie, Wyo. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill.
