PENLEY
Albert J. (Ike) Penley died Thursday, June 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret T. Penley; a son, Albert James Penley Jr. and his wife, Betty; his daughter, Judith Leigh Penley Holt; two brothers, Sam W. Penley of Roanoke and Fred J. Penley and his wife, Rae of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Katy Robertson and her husband, Gregory, Jennifer Nopper and her husband, Marty of Virginia Beach, Carrie Todd and her husband, Monte of Richmond, Albert James Penley III of Richmond, Jeffrey W. Holt of Chesapeake, and Timothy S. Holt and his wife, Dorothy of Delouth, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Shelby and Taylor Robertson, Jessica and Morgan Nopper and Thomas Holt. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Westhampton Memorial Park Mausoleum. Sanford J. "Pete" Peters, 71, passed away Thurday, June 14, 2001 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was retired from Reynolds Metals and served in the U.S. Navy. Earlier he was employed with the Norfolk & Western Railroad in Roanoke, Va. He was the son of the late Henry J. and Nellie B. Peters of Rocky Mount, Va. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Peters; and their children, Tom Peters and his wife, Suzanne of Ladysmith, Va., Sandra Campbell of Ashland, Va. and Michael Peters and his wife, Kathy of Midlothian; also two grandchildren, Tommy Barber and Megan Barber; two stepgrandsons, Taylor and Justin Payne; his sisters, Ethelda Milask of Boca Raton, Fla., Bonnie Walker of Rocky Mount, Va.; and brother, Winfred Peters of Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Shirley and Otey Peters. The family will receive friends at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. on Friday, June 15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2 p.m., at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 7500 Hull Street Rd. Stuart C. Prince, age 82, of Mechanicsville, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith Atkins Prince; three children, Linwood Prince and his wife, Diane, Alice Akers and her husband, J.P., and Charlotte Bradley and her husband, Mac; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Morgan Prince of Aylett; two sisters, Gladys Wheeler of Mechanicsville and Phyllis

Virginia Lois Schlemmer, 68, of Richmond, died June 13, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Donald M. Schlemmer; three sons, Frederick G. Schlemmer and his wife, Sharon of Novi, Mich., Michael E. Schlemmer and his wife, Carmen of Louisa, Va., Alan D. Schlemmer and his wife, Teri of Somersworth, N.H.; sister, Betty Baldarotta of Urbana, Ill.; also five grandchildren, Julianna, Adrianna, Justice, Grayson and Adrienne. Mrs. Schlemmer was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Krahn. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, member of the St. Margaret's Guild and a volunteer with the church office. She was a former 4-H leader and founder of the Ann Arbor, Mich. Leader Dog for the Blind Puppy Program. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. William Monroe Young, 87, of Ashland, formerly of Frog Level, died Thursday, June 14, 2001 at his home. Born at Lorne, in Caroline County, he was the widower of Mildred Young. He operated the Exxon station at Frog Level for 39 years and was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Tresa Young of Ashland; a grandson and his wife, Thomas W. and Susan Young of Glen Allen; and a great-grandson, Michael Thomas Young. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Monnie Adams Jr., 76, of Hatteras, N.C., died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, in a Chesapeake, Va., hospital. Mr. Adams, born in Chocowinity, N.C., retired in 1990, after 41 years of service, as vice president of sales for C.F. Sauer Company in Richmond, Va. After visiting for over 30 years, he moved to Hatteras Island in 1990. He was a member of the Hatteras Marlin Club, was an avid fisherman and had a close bond to the Hatteras Charter Fishing Fleet. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Adams was the son of the late Monnie Adams Sr. and the late Caddie Moore Adams. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Barbara Burriss "Bobbie" Adams of the residence; a stepdaughter, Katy Ellison of Hatteras, N.C.; a stepson, Crate Ellison of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter, Lynn Adams Winfree of Richmond, Va.; a son, Thomas Nelson Adams of Hampton Roads, Va.; four granddaughters, Leslie and Rebecca Adams, and Kristin and Brooke Winfree; and a sister, Betty Muller of Powells Point, N.C. Funeral services will be held at Hatteras United Methodist Church on Friday, February 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Holt Clarke officiating. Burial will be in Hatteras.
