LIGHTFOOT
Mrs. Mildred L. Lightfoot of 2301 Second Ave., died April 8, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

MILLER
Allen P. Miller Jr., 75, of Midlothian, died April 7, 2001 after a long illness. He is survived by a sister, Mildred Curry; a niece, Jane Walker; and four nephews, David Curry Jr., Allen Ballard, Jay Ballard, and Peter Ballard. Originally from Quincy, Mass., Mr. Miller served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. After graduating from the business school at Boston University he entered into the savings and loan mortgage business in California. He ended his 40 year career as Sr. Regional Vice President at Fannie Mae. In 1997 he retired to Midlothian, Va. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Midlothian. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Food Closet at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.

MITCHELL
Mr. Rufus Ernest Mitchell, 84, of 201 Pinecliffe Dr., Colonial Heights, Va., passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was a native of Greenville Co., Va. and was the son of the late Wiley B. and Betty Berkley Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell had resided in this area most all of his life. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and was a member of the Titmus Bible Class. Mr. Mitchell was retired from Virginia Power after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Ruby Evans Mitchell of Colonial Heights; two sons, Phillip Mitchell of Colonial Heights, Mark Mitchell and wife, Karin Mitchell of Chester; one daughter, Lisa Crowder of Chesterfield; six grandchildren, Amanda Stell of Matoaco, Va., Christopher Mitchell of Tacoma, Wash., Angie Stickel of Colonial Heights, Jennifer Mitchell, Cory Mitchell and Chad Mitchell, all of Chester; one great-grandson, Austin Stickel of Colonial Heights; one sister, Trixie Cobb and husband, Leland Cobb of Chesterfield; and a brother-in-law, M.C. Evans and wife, Mayben Evans; and two nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Dr. Donald Campbell, pastor, and the Rev. John W. Crocker, associate pastor of West End Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Chester. The family will receive friends at the residence. The family suggests that flowers are welcomed, but memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 6506 Boydton Plank Rd., Petersburg, Va. 23803.

OLIVE
Louis T. (Tommy) Olive, 80, of Richmond, formerly of Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands, departed this life April 8, 2001. Mr. Olive was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War and retired from Markel Corp. after 53 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Gorman Olive; son, Louis (Tim) Olive and wife, Yvonne; two granddaughters, Stephanie Louise and Laura Elizabeth Olive; sister, Marie Hunter and her husband, Harry of Westville, N.J.; brother, Theodore Olive of Saint Thomas, Virginia Islands; and brother-in-law, Stuart R. Gorman of Richmond. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, and where a Christian Wake Service will be held 7 p.m. Monday. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad.

SHELBURNE
Estelle Freeman Curtis Shelburne, 89, of Richmond, widow of Silas S. Shelburne Sr. died April 7, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Marguerite S. Proper; and son, Silas S. Shelburne Jr; six grandchildren, Frederick and Matthew Proper and Anne Magee, Chris, John and Anne Elizabeth Shelburne, all of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

SMITH
Jack Morris Smith, age 65, of Goochland, Va., died at his home of Lou Gehrigs Disease on Saturday, April 7, 2001. Survived by his wife, D. Celie Smith; three brothers, Jimmy Smith of Rosewell, Ga., Billy Smith of Acworth, Ga., Ray Smith of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Evelyn Reighard of Tompton, N.C. and Lou Etta Backstock of Nathalie, Va.; a special adopted family, the late Logan Dunn and his wife, Helen Dunn of Goochland, Va.; brother, Jackie Dunn of Goochland; sister, Pam Haislip of Fluvanna County. He was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Smith; and his mother, Irene Carpenter Smith. He is survived by his children by marriage, Genelle Freeman of Richmond, Erin Brown of Chesapeake, Ron Snodgrass of Winchester, Holly Wiesenbeck of Virginia Beach and Beth Norman of Richmond; and the joy of his day, 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Grace, Peter, and Andrew Freeman, Caitlin and Lindsey Brown, Anna and Becca Snodgrass, Abby and David Wiesenbeck, Rain and Jaden Norman. Remains rest at the Norman Funeral Home, Goochland, Va., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church, Rockcastle Rd., Goochland, Va. Interment church cemetery. Memorials may be made to ALS Association or Smyrna Baptist Church.

SPENCER
Margaret S. Spencer, age 83, of Richmond, formerly of Bradenton, Fla., died Saturday, April 7, 2001. She was preceded in death by Patrick McGuire Crowling of Chesapeake, Va. and by Elba Houston Spencer of Bradenton, Fla., her former husbands. She will be greatly missed by her son, Patrick McGuire Crowling Jr., a retired attorney and his wife, Pauline Stuhlman Crowling of Richmond, Va.; two stepchildren, Juanita Spencer Blanchard, California, Robert Houston Spencer, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Katherine Noel Robinson and her husband, David William Robinson, Richmond, Va., Patrick McGuire Crowling III and his fiancee, Ruth Naomi Fienblum, Richmond, Va.; two stepgrandchildren, Sandra Spencer Kelly, California and Robert Houston Spencer Jr., Australia; and a cherished benefactor, Ann C. Auberjonois. Mrs. Spencer was very proud of her family of teachers and musicians. She was an office nurse in Norfolk, Va. for Dr. Walter B. Martin and Dr. John Franklin. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, where the Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church Building Fund.

THORPE
Charles Welford Thorpe Jr. of Richmond died Saturday, April 7, 2001 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Thorpe was born on July 17, 1917, son of the late Charles W. and Grace L. Thorpe. He was a member of Berryman United Methodist Church. Mr. Thorpe retired from DuPont in 1975 after 35 years of service. He is survived by a sister, Helen T. Miller; a niece, Frances J. Fitzgerald and her husband, Terry A. Fitzgerald; and a great-niece, Tiffany Fitzgerald, all of Richmond. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12. Interment in Maury Cemetery.

TINSLEY
David Milton Tinsley Sr., 90, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001. Mr. Tinsley was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Marion Tinsley. He is survived by two sons, David Milton Tinsley Jr. and his wife, Pam, James Gary Tinsley and his wife, Judy; one daughter, Rosemary Hoggard and her husband, Jim; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd G. Tinsley and Ezra P. Tinsley; and one sister, Mildred T. Roach. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Monday, April 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

TURLINGTON
Lillie J. Turlington, 84, of Chesterfield, died on Friday, April 6, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Turlington. She is survived by her sons, Ronald K. Turlington and his wife, Terri, and Dennis C. Turlington and his wife, Nancy; sisters, Katherine Stephenson of Florida and Eula J. West; a brother, Hudson B. Johnson of New Jersey; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Turlington was a member of Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

WEST
J. Mason West, 90, a lifelong resident of Sussex County died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at his home in Waverly, Va. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ida Louise Sheffield West; a sister, Mary W. Clarke of Waverly; two nieces, Mary Frances West Williams of Newport News and Mary Louise West Geist of Emporia; two nephews, James West Beale and L. Mack West, both of Waverly. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001 in Waverly Cemetery by the Rev. Philip Elliott and the Rev. James M. Smith. The family will be at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Rescue Squad, the Waverly Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the church. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield is handling arrangements.

WILLCOX
Mrs. Sara Viverette Willcox, 79, wife of Robert Bolling Willcox III, died on Saturday, April 7, 2001 in a local hospital. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sara W. Cox of Salisbury, Md. and Mrs. Elizabeth W. Weisiger of Richmond; one brother, Joseph F. Viverette of Richmond; and five granddaughters, Sara Bolling Cox, Mary Davis Cox, Laura Harrison Weisiger, Holly McRae Weisiger and Martha Patteson Weisiger. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3602 Hawthorne Avenue. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Weisiger home at 807 Lindsay Court.

ANDERSON
Margaret W. Anderson passed away May 13, 2001 in Pensacola, Fla. A memorial will be held 12 noon Saturday, June 16, at Reveille United Methodist Church, 4200 Cary Street Rd.

BAILEY
Departed the life June 12, 2001, Mrs. Mabel L. Bailey of 3320 Fendall Avenue. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Bailey Phillips. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry Nelson Bailey; one daughter, Clara N. Bailey; two grandsons, Darren Phillips and Mark Bailey; one great-grandson, Jamar Phillips; three sisters, Jeanette Atkins, Della Easley and Thelma Johnson; host of nieces and nephews, among them, Cornelius Bailey Sr. and cousins; goddaughter, Theresa Jefferson; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. William J. Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Alberta A. Booth, 73, of Amelia, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 13, 2001. She is survived by her three daughters, Marion Banks, Audrey Booth and Gwenlyn Carter; two sons, Lonnie Booth Sr., and Kenneth Booth; two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson, three brothers, one sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Route 360, Amelia. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 17 at 2 p.m. from Chester Grove Baptist Church, Amelia. Reverend Richard Bailey, pastor, officiating. Interment in church cemetery.
