Departed this life November 21, 2001, Deaconess Mary P. Smith of 3505 Idlewood Ave. She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Smith. She is survived by four nieces, Shirley Wilson, Frances Cosby, Esther Mickey and Norma Branch; two nephews, James E. and devoted, Robert L. Smith (Toddy); great-nieces, nephews and cousins; one sister-in-law, Emma Tyler; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral Saturday, 12 noon, at Grayland Baptist Church, 2300 Third Avenue, where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Dr. Clifton Whitaker Jr. officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations assemble at the church 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

WEST
Ruby S. West, 91, of Richmond, widow of Richard A. West, died November 21, 2001. She is survived by her two sisters, Nellie S. Weinstein and Nora S. Childress; two nephews, Preston D. Mills and Bruce Leigh Weinstein; niece, Jean DesJardins; a lifelong friend, Nancy Lee Garcci; and other family and friends. Mrs. West retired from C&P Telephone with 45 years of service. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's, where Ruby was a lifelong member.

WILSON
Jean A. Wilson, 97, of Richmond, widow of James H. Wilson, died Sunday, November 18, 2001. She is survived by a son, Robert J. Wilson of California; a daughter, Barbara W. Higgins and devoted son-in-law, Edwin S. Higgins of Richmond; three grandchildren, Elizabeth "Beth" Jean Plunkett of Springfield, James Edwin Higgins of Bethesda, Md. and Glenn David Higgins of Bumpass; four great-grandchildren, Edmund Brian Plunkett, Scott Wilson Plunkett, Matthew James Higgins and Emma Grace Higgins; two sisters, Mary Parr of Walker, La. and Janet Lapa of Gulfport, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 3 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private at Forest Lawn. WINSTEAD
David Maurice Winstead, 62, of Kannapolis, N.C., died November 15, 2001 at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, N.C. Born in Richmond, Va. September 9, 1939 to Dorothy Dobyns Winstead, Roanoke, Va. and the late Maurice Winstead. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Richmond, Va. in 1991 and moved to Kannapolis in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Virginia National Guard for 30 years, retiring as a major. Survived by his wife, Susan Gray Winstead; five children, Margaret Lynn Winstead-Leal and David Matthew Winstead, both of Glen Allen, Va., Andrew Gray Winstead, Patrick Saunders Winstead and Elizabeth Hart Winstead, all of Kannapolis, N.C.; brother, Richard Sauners Winstead, Roanoke, Va.; and three grandchildren. Memorial services 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001, Welbourne United Methodist Church, Mayberry Dr., Richmond, Va. Family will receive friends after the services. Memorial donations to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mt. Olivet Rd., Concord, N.C. 28025.

WOFFORD
Sue Raynor Wofford, 80, of Berryville, formerly of Wilmington, N.C., died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 in Winchester, Va. She was born January 3, 1921, in Wilmington, N.C., the daughter of the late Jennie Marshburn and John A. Raynor. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Amos Wofford; her brother, John Alford Raynor; and her sister, Eula May Paul. Mrs. Wofford was an active member of the Berryville Baptist Church. She was also a very talented musician and made many contributions to the music ministries of the churches to which she belonged. She touched the lives of many people in Wilmington, N.C., where she grew up and started her family, in Jacksonville, Fla. and Richmond, Va., where she raised her children and later in Carrolton, Ga., where she lived after her husband's retirement from Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Surviving are her three sons, Donald R. Woffard and wife, Martha Collier Wofford of Wilmington, N.C., Wayne A. Wofford and wife, Joanne Isaacs Wofford of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Roger L. Wofford and wife, Nancy D. Neustrom of Youngsville, N.C.; a daughter, Linda Wofford Ingram and husband, William E. Ingram of Berryville, Va.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Novmeber 24, 2001, at the Berryville Baptist Church in Berryville, Va. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. A graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Novmeber 26, 2001 at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church of your choice. Arrangments are being handled by the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville.

ARTMAN
Joel David Artman, 62, of Chester, died at his home Saturday, July 27, 2002 after a short bout with cancer. He was born in Norris, Tenn., and attended the University of Tennessee. He graduated from N.C. State University and received his Masters Degree in Forest Pathology from Duke University. After retiring from the Department of Forestry for the Commonwealth of Virginia, he was employed by UAP Timberland. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Bailey Artman; and brother, Jerry. He is survived by his wife, Janice H. Artman; father, James O. Artman; son, Dr. Michael S. Artman and wife, Catherine; daughter, Janet Artman LaPrade and husband, Michael; three grandsons, Patrick, Matthew and Christopher Artman; granddaughter, Bailey LaPrade; and a brother, Jim Artman. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002 at Chester Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6480, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-6480. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester.

BIGGERSTAFF
Weldon Lemuel Biggerstaff, 85, of Glen Allen, passed away July 27, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Helen R. Biggerstaff; two sons, Thomas and Donald Biggerstaff; three daughters, Beverly Hausman, Wanda Harrell and Carol Terrell; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Mr. Biggerstaff was a World War II Army veteran and the former owner of Richard's Dry Cleaner and Central Dry Cleaners. Funeral services will be private. NELSEN FUNERAL HOME

Patricia Butler Board, 68, of Midlothian, Bonita Springs, Fla., and Virginia Beach, Va., died Friday, July 26, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Norman F. Board; two sons, Christopher F. Board of Richmond, Va. and Curt O. Board and his wife, Monti of Falls Church, Va.; and a close friend, Eric Stanley. Mrs. Board was a member of River Road United Methodist Church, Salisbury Country Club, Shadow Wood Country Club and the Reed's Landing Woman's Club. Her family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be conducted by the Rev. Sam Ne Smith at 2 p.m. Tuesday. James Limuel Brown Jr. departed this life on July 24, 2002. He is survived by his family. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Marion Jean Lyles Bryant, 76, of Richmond departed this life on July 23, 2002. She is survived by three sons, Harold, Clayborne and Alfred Bryant; three daughters, Dana Watkins, Brenda Carthan and Sonia Gardner; one sister, Emily Clark. Mark Russell Bunce, 38, of Charles City, died on Saturday, July 27, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn E. Cain; a daughter, Mallory Anne Bunce; stepchildren, Jesse, Sean and Angie Kendrick; two brothers, Douglas and Donald Conner; two aunts, Shirley Bunce and Ethel Fisher; and a host of cousins and friends. David Cabell Burks, 91, of Fredericksburg died July 27, 2002 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was born May 31, 1911 in Natural Bridge, Va. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Virginia (Ginna) Cullen and Betty Cabell Beck; three grandsons, and three great-grandsons. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Glasgow Cemetery, Glasgow, Va., with the Rev. Henry E. Riley Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel. BUTLER
Doris Schumann Butler, 76, died on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. She was the widow of Byron Edward Butler. Survivors include one daughter, Marsha B. Murray and her husband, Ian J. Murray of Glen Allen; one son, Glenn E. Butler and his wife, Catherine L. Butler of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, one grandson, Michael J. Murray of Glen Allen; two granddaughters, Kelly E. Murray of Glen Allen and Austin Butler of Norfolk; sister-in-law, Sue H. Schumann; and a deceased brother, Louis Albert Schumann Jr.; and deceased father and mother, Louis Albert Schumann Sr. and Irene Andrews Schumann. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 3 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Rd. Pastor J. Christopher Price. CALDWELL
Beatrice Nuckols Caldwell, 66, of Richmond, was called Home Sunday, July 28, 2002. She is survived by five children, Jay S. Caldwell, Wanda G. Ladd-Caldwell, Kimberly K. Caldwell, Debra S. Oldfield, and Christena R. Caldwell; two sisters, Gladys Pugh and Bernice Coffey; two brothers, Roy and Joe Nuckols; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a very dear friend, Lawrence Pugh. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. CANN
Elizabeth Sloan Cann died July 27, 2002. She was the widow of Beverley Randolph Tucker Jr. and the later John Pearce Cann Jr. and the daughter of the late James Turner Sloan and Louise Williams Sloan. She attended St. Catherine's School and Gunston Hall in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Cann was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and a past member of the Altar Guild. Among others, Mrs. Cann served on the Board of the Memorial Guidance Clinic and the Virginia Home for Boys. She was a past member of the Junior League of Richmond and The Woman's Club. She was also a member of The Stitch and Bitch Sewing Club. Mrs. Cann is survived by two sons, Beverley Randolph Tucker III and his wife, Mary Madelyn Tucker of Richmond, and Thomas Tudor Tucker and his wife, Mignon Worman Tucker of Cincinnati, Ohio.; her daughter, Elizabeth Austin Tucker and her husband, the Rev. Dr. William Lewis Sachs of Rowayton, Conn. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Madelyn Robison Tucker of Richmond and Elizabeth Sloan Smith and her husband, Roger Paul Phillip Bruneau of New York; five stepgrandchildren; and her sister, Anne Byrd Sloan of Richmond also survives along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her sister, Louise Sloan DeHart and her brother, James Turner Sloan preceded her in death. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Virginia Home for Boys, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, the American Heart Assoc. or the American Cancer Society. Graveside funeral services will be held at Hollywood Cemetery at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 30.
