SHELTON
Frank Lee Shelton, 54, of Weems, died January 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ann Shelton; one daughter, Angela Gagnon of Weems; two sons, Richard Hall of Glen Allen, and Dennis Hall of Sandston; two granddaughters; and one brother, Hathaway Shelton of Kilmarnock. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, at 11 a.m. in Claybrook Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Claybrook Baptist Church, P.O. Box 15, Weems, Va. 22576.

SISSON
Dr. Francis Watson Sisson, 89, of Richmond, died Saturday, January 6, 2001. He began his career in education as a high school history teacher in Shawsville, Va, upon graduation at the University of Virginia in 1932. He then went on to serve as principal at Eagle Rock High School, Radford High School and Martinsville High School. He joined the staff at the College of William and Mary in the capacity of high school counselor for the state of Virginia. After receiving his doctorate degree from Columbia University in New York City, he was named assistant supervisor of secondary education for the State Board of Education in Richmond in 1950. In 1953, he was appointed director of personnel for the Richmond Public Schools. He retired as Assistant Superintendent in 1975. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond and a lifetime member of Meadowbrook Country Club. He was a faithful member of Ginter Park United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and a teacher of the Friendly Bible Class. He also was a member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association. He has touched many lives and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen Charlton; two daughters, Rebecca Brundrett and her husband, Don of Apollo Beach, Fla. and Nancy Langford and her husband, Brent of Richmond; two grandchildren, Tracy Langford of Virginia Beach, Va. and Scott Langford of Framingham, Mass.; and a sister, Kitty McCoy of Radford, Va. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ginter Park United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ginter Park United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

STEGER
Amy Self Steger of Buckingham Co., died Saturday, January 6, 2001. She was the widow of Charlie Steger. Survivors include a daughter, Diane S. Spencer and her husband, Norman; a grandson, Scott Spencer and his wife, Cindy; two granddaughters, Emily and Haley Spencer, all of Chase City, Va.; two brothers, Sherman and L.L. Self, both of Buckingham Co.; two sisters, Ophelia Martin of Appomattox, and Neoma Bradshaw of Richmond. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church, Centenary, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.

TYLER
Melvin Welford Tyler, 73 of Hanover, son of Aubrey Gilman and Alma Atkins Tyler, died Saturday, January 6, 2001. Melvin is survived by two sisters, Nell Vest and Emily Toney; eight nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

WILLIAMS
Shirley Holt Williams, 80, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord and her son, J.B. on Friday, January 5, 2001. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Henry; and her children, Shirley Hall and her fiance, Barley Johnson, Shelby Spencer, Henry Jr. and his wife, Catherine Williams, Sammy and his wife, Carol Williams and David and his wife, Nancy Williams; brother, Sedie Holt; and sister, Addie Bailey; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams retired from E.R. Carpenter Co. after 15 years of service. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday in Dale Memorial Park.

ADAMS
Mary B. Adams, 80, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Adams; her son, Warren L. Adams; her daughter, Glenda A. Currie and husband, Bill Currie; two grandchildren, Billy Currie and wife, Shannon Currie and Kendal Currie; one sister, Annie Clarke. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church where Mrs. Adams was a lifelong member. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

AMPY
Bernard Louis Ampy of 5800 N. Crestwood Ave. died November 22, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

Cornelius Benjaman Brown Sr. of 4310 Shillcutt Rd., departed this life in McGuire Veterans Hospital Saturday, November 17, 2001. Surviving family members include, Clara G. Brown (wife), LaTonia Glass-Jenkins (daughter) (Kiah R. Jenkins) (Khaliq, Tre and Kasi), Cornelius Benjaman Brown Jr. (son) (Janice D. Brown) (Aundria, Alloune and Paris), Lena Mae Wilson (mother), Peter Morris (father) brothers and sisters, Clyde Brown (Delores Brown), Wallace Wade (Beverly Wade), Afear Collins (Shelby Collins), Earnest Wade (Margaret Wade) Rita Simmons (William Simmons) auntie Effie, uncle Willie Lee Bowser and uncle Henry "Billy Waller, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends among them devoted, John Jones, Collette Brown (godson) Jermaine Brown and niece Patrice Ross (Timothy Ross). Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 11 a.m., Minister William Derricott officiating. Interment in Dale Memorial Park, Chester, Va. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the funeral home Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

CALL
John Daniel Call M.D., age 88, of Richmond, died peacefully on November 21, 2001 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Anderson Call; six children, John Daniel Call Jr., William Clopton Call, Robert Somerville Call, Richard Anderson Call, Katherine Call Grainer and Joan Andrew; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manfred Call M.D. and Martha Amanda Clopton Call, a brother, Manfred Call M.D., and sister, Elizabeth (Buffy) Call Snead. Dr. Call was born on August 25, 1913. He graduated from John Marshall High School and the University of Virginia, undergraduate and medical schools. At UVA he was initiated into the Raven Society and was a member of the track and swim teams. He completed his internship at Virginia Mason Hospital and his residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. While at the Mayo Clinic, he received his Masters in Medicine from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Call practiced internal medicine for 50 years from his office in the Lee Medical Building and in association with Stuart Circle Hospital, where he served as Chief of Staff. He and his brother, Manfred, served as VCU's first Student Health Doctors for 20 years. Dr. Call retired in 1988. Dr. Call was a member of the Doctors Mayo Society, Richmond Academy of Medicine, American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and was on the Board of Directors of the Lee Medical Building. He served in the South Pacific on the destroyer, USS Buchanan during World War II as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy. Dr. Call was a member of the Country Club of Virginia and the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, where he practiced his love of golf. He often visited Amelia County to join friends and family in hunting. He maintained boats in Deltaville and Indian Creek to carry him fishing in the bay. He created a loving home, where he practiced his love of woodworking and his love for family. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2001, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Tuckahoe Vol. Rescue Squad, 1101 Horsepen Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229 or Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23227.

DAVIS
Anthony "Ty" Davis of Richmond departed this life Sunday, November 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Spence; one son, Antonio Tyree Spence; one stepson, Holden Spence; four stepdaughters, Brittany, Ave, Baba and Shameika; mother, Clara Robertson; father, Paul Davis; and devoted stepfather, Franklin Robertson; six sisters, Carolyn (Red) Mays, Lorraine Davis, Robin Waddy, Paulette and Taria Davis, and Jestine Spradley; six brothers, Jeffery Harris, Frank and Quincy Davis, Ricky Robertson, Frank Jr. and Adam Davis; three brothers-in-law, Melvin (Chuck) Mays, Mandel Waddy and Frank Mack; one sister-in-law, Pamela Davis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where the family will receive friends Friday (today), 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 12 noon, at First Baptist Church, 1501 Decatur St., Rev. Dwight C. Jones, pastor, Rev. Joseph Waddy officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. After 11 a.m. Saturday, remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church Saturday, 11:30 a.m.

ELLIS
Departed this life November 18, 2001, Melvin L. Ellis of 2903 Kane Street. He is survived by two sons, Charles Jefferson and Andrae Austin; two grandchildren, Quaya Jefferson and Daquanta Jefferson; mother, Frances Ellis; father, Arthur Ellis; two brothers, Charles and Milton Ellis; host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment Quantico National Cemetery on Monday. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

GENTRY
Susaine W. (Sue) Gentry of Mechanicsville passed away November 21, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Walter C. Gentry Jr.; her children, Walter C. (Butch) Gentry III of Morehead City, N.C., Judith G. Corker of Hanover Co., Joan G. Rucker of Chesterfield Co.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with a procession leaving from the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Departed this life November 20, 2001, Mrs. Louise C. George of 1615 N. 24th Street. She is survived by her loving husband, James W. George; stepdaughter, Patricia R. Gibson; two grandsons; host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral Saturday, 1 p.m. at Fifth Street Baptist Church, 2800 Third Ave., where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Rev. F. Todd Gray (pastor), Rev. Anthony Pearson officiating. Mrs. Mary Hill Green, 89, widow of Mr. A. Rice Green died Thursday, November 22, 2001. Survivors include her son, The Reverend Alfred M. Green and wife, Betty H. Green; her daughter, Elizabeth G. Haga and husband, Dr. Ray Haga; three grandchildren, Sherry P. Saunders and husband, Carson E. Saunders Jr., Elizabeth G. Tapocik and husband, M. Shawn Tapocik and Noah Kent Haga; four great-grandchildren, Anne Curtis Saunders, Mary Warren Saunders, Courtney Paige Tapocik and Jack Thomas Tapocik; numerous special friends, among them, Timothy Saul and family. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt, where the funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001. Virginia Monaco Green, age 91, a former Broadway singer and dancer, died November 18, 2001. She is survived by one son, Walon Charles Green of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Collin K. Green of Raleigh, N.C., Sharon G. Loveridge and husband, Paul of Melbourne, Fla. and Darwin Charles Green of Ventura, Calif; one great-grandchild, Namoi Green. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m Sunday, November 25, 2001 in the Emporia Cemetery, Emporia, Va. Family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Echols Funeral Home, Emporia.

GUESS
Mary Sclater Blain Guess, 86, of Fork Union, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Novmeber 19, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Guess. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Randolph H. and Linda Blain of Va. Beach and David E. and Kathryn Blain of Fork Union; one daughter and her husband, Judith Blain and Garnett Kennedy of Fork Union; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Guess was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Richmond and Bethel Baptist Church of Palmyra. Her remains rest at the Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Va., where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday night. Funeral services will be at Bethel Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24. Burial will follow at Fork Union Memorial Cemetery.

HARRISON
Deacon Llewellyn C. Harrison Sr. of 1518 Carter St. died November 20, 2001. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lambert C. Harrison and Llewellyn C. Harrison Jr. Surviving are three daughters, one devoted, Grace L. Harrison, Doris J. McClure (Alfred) and Evelyn J. Thomas (Curtis); two sons, Melvin S. Jones (Barbara) and Rudolph Jones; 16 grandchildren, host of great and great-great-grandchildren; four nieces, Florence Morgan, Jean Trimiew, Dorothy Mines and Hattie Greene; host of cousins; devoted caregiver, David Powell; host of great-nieces and great-nephews; devoted friend, Ethel Patterson; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. After 12 noon Saturday, remains will rest in St. Paul's Baptist Church, 2600 E. Marshall St., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. Lance Watson officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HOLLIS
Merry Margaret (Meg) Hollis, age 29, of Richmond, Va. died suddenly November 21, 2001. She was the daughter of Janice and Wayne Peregoy of Richmond, Va. and Billy Hollis and wife, Beth of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. Survived by sister, Michelle Culp and husband, Darren; sister, Melanie Sudduth; stepsister, Sherrie Reed and husband, Kirk; stepbrother, Larry Peregoy; nieces, Haley Sudduth, Jordan Hensel and Kalyn Reed; nephews, Collin and Jacob Culp; and beloved companion, Michael Floyd; and so many special friends who loved and supported her, including a very special friend, Leslie Treaster. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be eternally missed by the many who she touched in this life; no doubt, God holds her now. Memorial services will be held at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, Saturday, November 24 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in Meg's name.
