The funeral for Arthur Wilkes Byrd, 53, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 6, 2005, was held Friday at Community Funeral Service chapel with Charles R. Tomlinson officiating. Burial was private.

Herman C. Byrd
The funeral for Herman Clyde Byrd, 78, of Bassett, who died Dec. 6, 2005, was held Friday at Collins Funeral Services with the Rev. Doby Salmons officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

Kester S. Clark
The funeral for Kester Spencer Clark, 85, who died Dec. 6, 2005, was held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Dunn officiating. Burial was in Ross-Harbour Church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
Members of the honor guard served as pallbearers.
Everette T. Compton
LITTLE RIVER, S.C. -- Everette Thomas Compton, 61, of 4338 McCorsley Ave., Little River and formerly of Ridgeway, Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was born in Ridgeway to Billy Compton and Ethel Hooker Compton.
He was a former member of the Virginia National Guard. He was the executive director of the Little River Water and Sewer Co. and a board member of the Rural Water Association for South Carolina. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shalotte, N.C.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his wife, Judy Shields Compton of the home; and a daughter, Lynne Ann Compton Healy of San Diego, Calif.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C. and at other times at the home of his parents, 4759 Soapstone Road, Ridgeway.

James R. Elgin
The funeral for James Russell Elgin, 90, of Bassett, who died Dec. 6, 2005, was held Friday at Bassett Funeral Service with the Revs. Janet McGhee, Joe Nunley and Arlene Robertson officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Zack Donovant, Bruce Elgin, Wayne Elgin, Duke Powell, David Clark, Mike Elgin, Mike
Powell and Clarence Overby.
Roy E. Fowler III
Roy Ernest Fowler III, infant son of Roy Ernest Fowler Jr. and Jennifer Flippen, of Bassett, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his maternal grandparents, James R. Flippen and Shirley Flippen of Bassett; his paternal grandfather, Roy Ernest Fowler Sr. of Fieldale; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Henry Memorial Park with the Revs. Tom Teems and Curtis Christian officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service before the service.
Parnell W. Gravely
Parnell Wilson Gravely, 88, of Axton, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Henry County on July 11, 1917. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gravely; a daughter, Joann G. Wright; a sister, Mazie Wilson Dickerson; and four brothers, John Wilson, Joe Wilson, Benjamin Wilson and David Wilson.
She was a weaver with Dan River Mills for over 41 years. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Raymond E. Gravely of Danville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Joe Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her son.
Sharon K. Huff
Sharon Kay "Suzi" Huff, 35, of Ridgeway, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at Wake Forest University Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Rocky Mount on Oct. 31, 1970, to Oscar Huff and Darlene Solomon. She was preceded in death by her father.
She was a member of Temple of Faith Church in Ridgeway.
In addition to her mother, surviving are two sisters, Donna Robertson of Fork Mountain and Tammy Martin of Eden, N.C.; a brother, Ricky Huff of Stoneville, N.C.; step-father, Ruben Solomon of Ridgeway; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Temple of Faith Church in Ridgeway with Pastor Bobby L. Lawson and Minister David A. Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens in Eden, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Vernon M. Johnson
The funeral for Vernon Morton Johnson, 72, of Collinsville, who died Dec. 7, 2005, was held Saturday at Collins Funeral chapel with Pastor Zeke Zanatos officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the Martinsville and Henry County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Lee Minnick, Hardin Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Buford Edwards, Steve Nichols and John Handy.
Jennifer R. Jones
The funeral for Jennifer Raye "Jenny" Jones, 56, of Ridgeway, who died Dec. 6, 2005, was held Friday at Rich Acres Christian Church with Ministers Tim Hunt and Kenneth
Jones officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.
Pallbearers were Phillip Murdock, Michael Neuman, Morris Moore, Lacy Tawney, Ronald Jones, Larry Cox, Wes Parnell and Jimmy Wall.
Community Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
Lafayette C. Jones
Lafayette C. Jones, 59, of 501 Second St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem.
He was born in Martinsville on May 12, 1946, to Grady Belcher and Bloncie Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy H. Jones.
He retired from Sara Lee and was a member Mt. Zion AME Church, the N.P.P.D., the Masonic Lodge and the Jaycees. He also served in the Army.
Surviving are three daughters, Myletia M. Jones, Makeda N.
Jones and MyJeena' P. Jones, all of Martinsville; two sons, MaKaibu R.L.
Jones and Jeffrey Wade, both of Martinsville; two sisters, Lenora Gravely and Bloncie Venita Gentry, both of Martinsville; and four brothers, Steve Jones, Cecil Jones, Norman
Jones and Leonard Jones, all of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held at noon Monday at Hairston Funeral Home with the Revs. Ruben Boyd and Louis Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one half hour before the service and other times at the home.
