MITCHELL
David Wayne Mitchell, age 50, of Aylett, Va., owner of Lumina-Mitchell Electrical Co., passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 2, 2002. He is survived by his devoted wife, Terry H. Mitchell; two sons, David Scott Mitchell and Jason Bowen; his mother, Bessie M. Mitchell; two brothers, Wyatt Douglas Mitchell and Lewis Fountain Mitchell Jr.; two sisters, Frances Shumaker and Martha Chaulkley. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
MUSTIAN
Carroll Thomas (Tom) Mustian, 58, passed away Sunday morning June 2, 2002 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Anne Gordon Hueston Mustian; his son, Wilson Thomas Mustian; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne Carroll and Brian Ezzelle; his children's grandmother, Anne Love Roberson; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Love, Meredith Katherine and Alexander Carroll Ezzelle; his stepson and daughter-in-law, W.G. (Tripp) and Jennifer Hueston and their children, Tyler and Meghan; and his first cousin, Patty Richwine. Mr. Mustian was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancye Roberson Mustian; and his parents, Tom and Ruth Mustian. Mr. Mustian graduated from the Virginia military Institute in 1965 and he received his J.D. from the T.C.
Williams School of Law in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve earning the grade of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Mustian was the senior partner in the Law Firm of Mustian and Parker for 25 years. He had been an active member of the Virginia State Bar and the Henrico Bar Associations for over 30 years. Mr. Mustian was a long-time member of River Road Church, Baptist and he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond and the Westhampton Masonic Lodge, L.P. Michaels No. 302. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Paul James Myer, 54, passed away May 29, 2002 at his home in Miami, Florida. Beloved husband of Mary; loving father of Andrew and Thomas; Paul is predeceased by his father, Robert R. Myer Jr.; and is survived by his mother, Geraldine Q. Myer and brothers, Robert III (Annette), Stephen (Jeannette), Gregory and Laird; as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was a 1965 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in Miami and a 1969 graduate of Villanova University. A devoted family man, Paul was employed for 28 years by Reynolds Aluminum Recycling Company, headquartered in Richmond, and Wise Metals, LLC. Paul's family and friends celebrate the life of this strong, kind and loving man who is surely sleeping in the arms of the angels. Ronald Stephen Smith, 41, of Varina went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Moore, Okla. while attending advanced instructor training at the FAA Academy. He worked with the FAA at the RIC and he served in the US Navy during the Beirut Conflict prior to joining the FAA. He was Past Vice President of Softball for the Varina Athletic Association, where he coached kids for many years and coached softball at Moody Middle School from 1999-2001 and was an assistant softball coach at Henrico High School this past season. He was founder and manager of the fast pitch softball team "The Lady Wolverines" of Varina and the team represented Virginia in Kansas in the U.S.S.A World Series. He was an avid golfer who belonged to and elite group "The Gator Guys" and devoted Boston Red Sox, Bruins and New England Patriots fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Tammy Harris Smith; three daughters, Stephanie C. Smith, Erica P.
Smith and Courtney S. Smith, all of Varina. He is also survived by his parents, Ronald and Pauline

Mrs. Janey Bell Kerse Sommers, 78, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Fitzgerald Health Center, Arbor Acres. She was born September 3, 1923 in Richmond, Va. to the late Thomas Phillip and Katherine Steptoe Houchins Kerse. Mrs. Sommers was a graduate of Radford University where she received the John B. Speirs Award for the highest grade average. She received her Master of Arts in Education for Wake Forest University. She taught in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools from 1952-1989. Mrs. Sommers was Teacher of the Year in 1980-1981 locally and one of the three finalists in N.C. She was also Staff Assistant/Instructor/Teacher for learning disabilities. She was a very active member of Highland Presbyterian Church while her health permitted. She served as Elder for several terms, and had the honor of being the second woman elected to this office. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Roy A. Sommers of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Thomas of Merry Point, Va. and Mrs. W. R. Buck III of Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene Makarowsky, psychiatrist, dies at 84

Born months before the Russian Revolution of 1917, which would devastate his family, Eugene Makarowsky was "determined to survive the historic events he lived through," said a daughter, Helena Tuman of Phoenix.
Dr. Makarowsky, who practiced psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia Hospitals and was director of the Richmond Psychiatric Clinic for many years, died Friday in a nursing home in Phoenix, where he had moved from Richmond five months ago. He was 84.
Born in Penza, Russia, he and his younger brother were reared by their mother after their father's death when Eugene Makarowsky was about 10. Because his parents were professionals, the family came under suspicion of the Bolshevik government.
"The intelligentsia in Russia were being arrested and sent to Siberia or shot," his daughter said.
Groomed as a pianist, Dr. Makarowsky earned his medical degree from Moscow State University of Medicine.
He left Penza in 1942 and went to Bryansk in southern Russia, where doctors were needed to treat an outbreak of botulism. There, he met and married Claudia Fedina.
The Makarowskys lived on the run until 1950, when he managed to book passage to the United States. They moved to Virginia in 1953.
Dr. Makarowsky served as director of training and research at Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County until 1958 and did a residency in psychiatry at MCV until 1960.
In 1962, he was named director of the newly opened Richmond Psychiatric Out-Patient Clinic at 101 S. Fifth St., where he served many years. He also served many years as a clinical instructor in psychiatry at MCV.
His wife died in 1988. Survivors include another daughter, Lydia Thurston of Denver; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Sts. Constantine and Helen, 30 Malvern Ave. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

George William (Bill) Balsinger Jr., passed away August 25, 2001. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Katherine (Kassie) Balsinger of Asheville, N.C.; mother and stepfather, Mary Hott Briggs and Stanley R. Briggs of Richmond; father, George William Balsinger Sr. of Dumfries, Va.; three half sisters, Patricia A.
