BROOKS
Lorayne Gershman Brooks of Cocoanut Creek, Fla., formerly of Richmond, died Friday, April 12, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Brooks and her mother, Birdie Gershman. Survivors include her children, Arlyn Brooks Fleishman of Georgia, Pam Brooks Fruchter of Florida and Jeff Brooks and his wife, Wendy of Blacksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Jenny Saturday, Josh Fleishman, Jonathan and Melissa Fruchter, Justin and Nathan Brooks; a sister, Mimi Mullian of Richmond, Va.; two aunts, Fannie Specter of Richmond, Freda Pinchofsky of California; two uncles, Jack Feingold and wife, Ida of California, and Sam Feingold of Chicago, Ill.; loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and many devoted friends. Memorial service to be held at later date.
BROSKE
Frances L. Broske, 71, of Richmond, died April 12, 2002. She is survived by her husband, William W. Broske Sr.; three children, Donna Marie Kinney and her husband, Daniel Mark, Ann Victoria Broske and William W. Broske Jr.; two sisters, Betty Paulini and her husband, George and Helen Griffith and her husband, Starling; two grandchildren, William W. Broske III and Ashley Nicole Kinney. Mrs. Broske was a daycare provider and with her husband, designed and built many homes in the Lakeside area. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens.
BROWNING
Diane Carol Browning of San Francisco, Calif. died Thursday, April 11, 2002. She is survived by her loving parents, Bill and Sarah Browning; her sister, Kathy Browning; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Tommy Heflebower; her aunt, Lois Holder; devoted cousin, Carolyn Riley; and many other loving cousins. Her family wishes to thank her devoted friends and caregivers, Jim Brennan and Veronica Brauns for whom they are most grateful. Diane was a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and an avid traveler throughout her life, most recently having lived and taught school in Taiwan. A memorial service will be held at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road, on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. CALDWELL
Charles Basil Caldwell, 87, of Richmond, formerly of Highland Springs, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Widower of Doris Beddingfield Caldwell, he is survived by his sister, Muriel Goewey of Cape Coral, Fla.; three brothers, B.G. Caldwell of Lynchburg, M.H. Caldwell of Port Royal and Max S. Caldwell of Goochland. Mr. Caldwell was retired from the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a maintenance superintendent, and was a member of Highland Springs United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during WWII serving with the 10th Army, U.S. Air Force, and belonged to American Legion Post No. 0144, Highland Springs. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Carolyn Lassiter Carter, age 79, of Lancaster, Va., formerly of Cumberland County, Va., died Saturday, April 13, 2002. Mrs.
Carter lived in Cumberland County for 41 years, where she was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Cartersville, and Friends of Grace Church, Ca Ira, Va. She was also a charter member of the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library and the Women Club of Cumberland, where she served as its first president. In 1991, Mrs.
Carter moved to Lancaster County, Va. and volunteered at Historic Christ Church, the Mary Ball Washington Museum, the Lancaster County Public Library and the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine
Carter Bresett and David C. Bresett, Merry Point, Va.; a son, William Winston Carter, Rice, Va.; a sister, Louise Lassiter Beck, North Augusta, S.C.; and a brother, Lawrence L. Joseph Cosentino, age 77, fell asleep in death April 12, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Lella; his three sons, Steven, Peter and John; two daughters, Dana Sawyer and Melissa Hernandez; one sister, Marie Leone; and one brother, Ennio Cosentino. John "Carlton" Draine, age 55, died unexpectedly April 11, 2002. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Edna Draine. He will be greatly missed by his brothers, Charles D. and wife, Glenda, David L. and wife, Sharon; and his sister, Brenda Edwards and husband, Woody. He is also survived by two nephews, Fred and James Draine. Carlton loved life. He loved to hike, bicycle, play tennis, and especially loved to ski. He was a member of the Richmond Ski Club and served in the Army Reserves. He was an employee of the I.R.S. Mary Harris Hayes, 51, went to be with her Lord Thursday, April 11, 2002. She was a dedicated state employee for 33 years, most recently with VDOT, an active member of Black Creek Baptist Church, and and a faithful blood donor. She currently served as Rear Commodore of the White Point Yacht Club, and was a loving daughter, wife and mother who always made time for other people and animals. Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Hayes; two daughters, Sarah Anne Hayes and M. Crystal Hayes; her parents, Lemuel and Elsie Harris; two sisters, Margaret Tellis and Elaine Gardner; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Black Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Cdr. Harvard Christian Huber, USN (Ret.), age 82, a World War II veteran, passed on to be with the Lord on April 12, 2002. He is survived by Elizabeth, his beloved wife of 59 years; daughters, Carol Rodgers and Gail Burke; son, Greg; and six grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate his life and salvation will be held Sunday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Sycamore Presbyterian Church, 510 Coalfield Road, Midlothian, Va. 23114. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Pearl Peaco of Richmond and Virginia Slaughter of Chester; four grandchildren, Nathan Johnson, Monica Johnson, Michelle Clark and Andrew Johnson. Mr.
Johnson was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 9808, and retired from American Tobacco Company after 38 years of service. G.W. "Knick" Knickerbocker, 62, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord April 10, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Carol; and his three sons, Jeff, David and Marc; father, L.M. Knickerbocker; two brothers, Ronald and Robert Knickerbocker; three grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Skylar. Knick was president of J.H. Martin & Son with 25 years of service. He was also a Navy veteran and will be receiving military honors by Memorial Rifles, American Legion Post 84. Craig G. Lougee, age 43, of Peoria, Arizona, born in Wolfeboro, N.H., passed away April 9, 2002. Craig graduated with a BA in History at the University of New Hampshire, a Masters of Business Administration in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and was one month away from graduation at Chandler-Gilbert Community College with an AMT degree. He was also a Captain in the Army when he was discharged and was with the 101st Airborne. Craig is survived by his wife, Allyn Patterson Lougee; his mother, Glenna F. Lougee; sisters, Lori Kline, Wendy O'Brien, Angela Paisker and Becky Curran; his grandmother, Gertrude N. Lougee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Barry N. Frank Orlando Mangini, 74, of Richmond, Va., died in a local hospital April 11, 2002. He was the son of the late Donato and Antionetta Rita Mangini of Raritan, N.J. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Winifred H. Mangini; brother, James V. Mangini of Raritan, N.J.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mangini was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and retired from the Defense General Supply Center. He was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and a regular attendee of Westover Baptist Church.
