Helen Marie Perkins Westermann of Richmond and Virginia Beach went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lewis Westermann; her son, Robert Lewis Westermann Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lyn Rainey Westermann; two grandchildren, Katherine Marie and James Davis Westermann; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Park. Mrs. Westermann was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach; the Henrico County Craft Class and the German American Sports Club. WILSON
Ashby Stephen Wilson Jr. of 3205 Barnes Spring Ct., Midlothian, Va., died January 17, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Tinsley Wilson; his son, Ashby Stephen Wilson III, Richmond; his daughter, Elizabeth Tinsley Wilson, Richmond; and his sister, Jane Wilson Hardy of Rock Hall, Md. Ashby was born August 10, 1941 to the late Margaret Scott Wilson and Ashby Stephen Wilson Sr. Ashby grew up in Hampton, Va., graduating from Hampton High School. He received Masters degrees in English Literature and Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Ashby was the Director of the Mathews Memorial Library in Mathews, Va. He was previously the Director of Rappahannock Community College Library in Warsaw, the central computer coordinator for the Virginia Community College System and the Director of Automation for the Commonwealth of Virginia State Library. For the past several years, Ashby taught English classes at Rappahannock Community College. Before returning to Virginia, Ashby was the Director of Automation for the North Carolina State Library in Raleigh and worked in the Greensboro Public Library as the Automated Library Information System manager. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 20, 3 to 5 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held Monday, January 21, at 1 p.m. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. Barbara Catherine Wood, 79, of Richmond, died January 16, 2002. Mrs. Wood was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Wood Kiiffner. She is survived by her husband, Harold C. Wood; daughter, Joan Wood Bennett and her husband, Ronald; two sons, Donald L. Wood and his wife, Jane and Stuart W. Wood and his wife, Bonnie; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. David Binford Bass, 82, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was a native of Moseley, Va. and was the son of the late Howard A. Sr. and Ida Mae Bass. Mr. Bass retired from VDOT after 24 years of service, a member of the Masons, Senior Citizens, and TPA. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Moseley, Va. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by a brother, H. Aubrey Bass Jr., and a sister, Doris Bass Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Magaline Cash Bass; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and William Arrington of Colonial Heights; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Judy Bass of Henderson, N.C.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ross Strickland of Nashville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Bill and wife, Cathy Arrington, Ruthann and husband, Adam McComb, Tracy and Kathryn Bass, Binford, Mathew and Coley Strickland; two sisters, Thelma Bolin of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Anne McDaniel of Chester; and a sister-in-law, Esther Bass of Moseley. Mrs. Claire Dodson Bradshaw, 76, of Burkeville, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 3, 2001. She was an owner and officer of Bradshaw Ford, Inc., where she worked for over 40 years until just prior to her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie D. Bradshaw. She is survived by her daughter, Linda B. Gragnani and her husband, Otto; her daughter, Patricia B. Wilton C. Cooke, 83, a lifelong resident of Dendron, Va., died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk, Va. He was a son of the late Bradford T. Cooke and Mary M. Cooke, a retired electrician and a member of Dendron United Methodist Church. Mr. Cooke is survived by his brother, Willie Eugene Cooke of Dendron; his sister, Mary L. Royce Galvin Copeland Sr., 67, of 27120 Sunset Drive, Windsor, Va., died Saturday, February 3, 2001 in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years of service as a mail carrier and was a self-employed farmer. He was native of Isle of Wight County, Va. and member of Colosse Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late, Galvin Staley Copeland and preceded in death by his sister, Brenda C. Kennedy. He is survived by his wife, Susie Mumford Copeland; mother, Annie Babb Copeland, both of Windsor; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Sue and John Rawls of Zuni, Va.; sons, Royce G. Copeland Jr. of Windsor and Mitch Copeland; grandchildren, J. Rawls, Jaclyn Rawls and Jeri Rawls; and two brothers, William "Willie" B. Copeland and John Staley Copeland, both of Windsor. Frank J. Corsaro, 80, of Richmond, died February 5, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Corsaro. Rizzo; also by his former wife and lifelong friend, Helen L. Corsaro; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Mr. Corsaro was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. C. Edwin Delano, CLU, born January 28, 1928, passed away suddenly in Dallas, Texas, on February 3, 2001. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran during World War II, and an employee of Southland Life Insurance Co. in Dallas from 1952 to 1984. He was active in his church, the Delano Kindred, and Southland Life Retirees Assoc. Mr. Delano is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Alelia Burgess Delano; sons, Steve and Brian Delano; grandson, Colin Delano; and brother, Dean Delano; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 8, at the Warsaw Baptist Church in Warsaw, Va., with burial there to follow. FORD
Oliver J. Ford Jr., 90, who had resided since 1981 in Denison, Texas, died on February 3, 2001. Mr. Ford was born in Richmond, Va., on June 11, 1910, the son of Oliver J. and Jesse Bennett Ford. A graduate of John Marshall High School in Richmond and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Mr. Ford moved to Shreveport, La., in 1935, where he pursued his career as a commercial artist and operated Ford & Company, Advertising until his retirement. In 1937 he married Rena Lynch of Cherry Mound, Texas, and they reared a family in Shreveport, where they were communicants of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Following his retirement, Mr. Ford continued an active career as an artist, concentrating on ink drawings of antique and distinctive buildings in Louisiana and Texas. He is survived by his wife, Rena of Cherry Mound; two sons, Oliver Ford III of Chester, N.H., and Ronald Ford of Lake Providence, La.; and one daughter, Connie Zaitchik of Natick Mass.; and by his grandchildren, Bennett, Charles, Ross and Charlotte Ford, and Alexander and Allison Zaitchik; by his nieces, Jeanette Wise of Richmond, Va., and Isabelle Thierfeldt of Frewsburg, N.Y.; and by his cousins, Charlotte, Ross, and Lee Ford of Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Norwood. Catherine J. Graf passed away on February 3, 2001, at Alpha House-Hanover Manor in Ashland. She will be laid to rest with the cremated remains of her beloved husband of 64 years, John A. Graf. John was born on November 29, 1907 and died June 19, 1998. Catherine was born on October 10, 1908. Both were natives of Kansas, but met at Loyola University, Chicago. Catherine was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, Chicago. She was active with her children's scouts and PTA. She returned to work as the administrator of the Park Ridge, Ill., Tuberculosis Clinic. John, a graduate of Loyola Law School, was a member of the Bar in Illinois and Colorado. He was justice of the peace in Evanston, Ill., where he practiced law. John was accepted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a member of the Medinah Temple and the Black Horse Troop. A sister, Ellen Hartman; and brother, Dr. Carl Graf survive John. John and Catherine are survived by five children, John E. of Forest City, N.C., James S. of Columbus, Ohio, Gerald T. of Libertyville, Ill., Catherine Kutz of Madison, Wis., and Judy Hale of Hanover, Va. They were blessed with 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church, Ashland, Va., February 10 at 10 a.m. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Va.

Margaret Catherine Grech, 80, died in Charlottesville on Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was born October 20, 1920 in Mineral. She is survived by her husband, Samuel E. Grech; three daughters, Neva Pullen of Ruckersville, Jane Walsh of Forest Park, Ga., and Naomi Dillion of Hopewell; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Roberts of Varina. She was preceded in death by a son, Brodie Bourne. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at the Hill & Wood Chapel. Aelise F. Helm, 76 of Richmond, died Monday, February 5, 2001. Mrs. Helm was a 30-year member of Trinity UMC, where she was a dedicated teacher of children's christian education. Survivors include her husband, Jesse (Jack) Helm Jr.; two sons, Gary M. Helm, Richmond, and David M. Helm, Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Jack D. French, Lynchburg. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at Trinity UMC, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
