FITZGERALD
Robert Clayton Fitzgerald, 80, former State Senator, Judge, Commonwealth's Attorney, and lawyer, died suddenly October 10, 2001 at
Smith Mountain Lake, Va. He was born in Virginia, September 22, 1921 to Moses Doskey and Margaret DeMasters Fitzgerald and resided in Virginia throughout his life. He was a resident of
Smith Mountain Lake for the past three years. He graduated from the University of Virginia where he also earned his J.D. in 1946. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 and fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII, after which he was discharged as a Captain. He opened his first law practice in 1946. He was appointed judge of the Trail Justice and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts of Fairfax County in 1951 and served until 1954 when he was appointed and later elected to serve two terms as Commonwealth's Attorney of Fairfax County. In 1963, he was elected to the Senate of Virginia representing the Counties of Fairfax and Arlington, and the cities of Falls Church and Fairfax. During this time and later he served as Chairman of the Virginia Airports Authority, The Dulles Airport Commission, The Virginia Advisory Legislative Council, member of the Senate Ethics Committee, and two terms as President of the George Mason University Foundation. He engaged in the general practice of law but is known mostly for his representation of many of the counties of Virginia in their defense to annexation by cities and towns. From 1946 to 1965, he was a sole practitioner. From 1965 to 1993, he was majority owner and President of the firm of Fitzgerald & Smith. In 1993, he accepted an appointment as Counsel to the firm of Hazel & Thomas where he practiced until his retirement in 1999. He was Deacon in the Middleburg Baptist Church, as well as Chairman of its Fianance Committee and its Search Committee. He was a member of the Staunton Baptist Church in Huddleston, Va. since 2000. He is survived by his wife, Nancy R. Fitzgerald; three daughters, Sandra Fitzgerald of Falls Church, Va., Cheryl Fitzgerald of Vienna, Va and Dr. Katherine D.F. Houck of Richmond, Va.; one granddaughter, Rebecca Fitzgerald Houck; and three sisters, Eileen
Smith of San Marino, Calif., Evelyn Hart of Warrenton, Va. and Marjorie Moore of Virginia. She retired fron the City of Norfolk Public School System after 30 years of service as a teacher. Retired Col. Allan C. Hamilton, U.S. Army, 92, died on October 6, 2001 at Walter Reed Medical Center. He is survived by his sons, Allan C. Hamilton Jr. and his wife, Brownie S. Hamilton of Richmond and J. Ronald Hamilton and his wife, Maud B. Hamilton of Culpeper; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Col. Hamilton earned his bachlor's degree from the University of Maine in 1933. He entered military service in 1939 and retired in 1963. He was a member of Clan Hamilton and St. Andrew's Society. There will be a funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2001.

William H. "Bill" "Fats" Hanchey Jr., 70, of Gwynn Island and formerly of Ricmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2001. On July 13, 2001, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 and a half years, Helen Marie Hanchey. Deacon Walter Calvin Harris departed this life on October 10, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, Va. He was born June 17, 1924 to the late Lewis and Mary Cosby Harris. Walter was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army. He later became employed at the San Diego Veterans Hospital until his retirement, when he moved back to Louisa County. Wade T. Luck Jr., 79, of Richmond, passed away October 11, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 55 years, Alma J. Luck; two sons, Thomas M. Pleasants and his wife, Libby and Wade T. Luck III and his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Nancy L. Hubbard and her husband, Bob and Robin L. Janes and her husband, John; two brothers, Sherman and Thomas Luck; four sisters, Mabel Garrison, Elizabeth Dickerson, Joyce Burgess and Doris Pritchett; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Luck was born in Spottsylvania County and moved to Richmond in 1945. He reitred from C&O Railroad after 30 years of service. For the past several years, Mr. Luck has been a resident of Elizabeth Adam Crump Manor. He was a devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served in many areas of church life. John P. Marble Jr., 63, of Chester, died suddenly September 22, 2001 while on vacation in upstate New York. He taught science at Carver Middle School in Chester for more than 20 years before retiring in June 2000. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Dees; their son, Sanders; his sister, Katherine Bejnar; and his brother, Richard. As Mr. Marble had wanted, there was no funeral or memorial service.
