Robert L. Squire, 57, of Chesterfield, formerly of Northampton County, N.C., departed this life Monday, November 26, 2001. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Maude Ingram Squire Farrow; his father, Thomas W. Squire; and four brothers, Floyd, Thomas, James and Glenn Squire. He is survived by a lifelong devoted friend, William C. Moore; two sisters, Daisy Robertson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Lesa Carpenter; a half brother, James Robinson of Pleasant Hill, N.C.; his stepfather, Felix Farrow of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, five aunts and a host of cousins, friends, devoted nieces and nephews. Mr. Squire was retired from the Globe Envelope Company after 20 years of service. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., with Dr. Robert L. Gary L. Steveson, 56, of Mechanicsville, passed away November 26, 2001. SYKES
Bernard Ray Sykes, 75, a native of Old South Norfolk, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 in Richmond. Mr. Sykes retired from the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia after 35 years as a Marketing Department Supervisor and joined Twiford's Funeral Home staff in Manteo, N.C. He was a member of Kempsville United Methodist Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Outer Banks Shag Club and the Outer Banks Senior Citizens Group. Mr. Sykes was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a First Field Sergeant. He was the son of the late Vernon L. and Bessie Gates Sykes. Mr. Sykes is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Massie and her husband, Charles of Gum Spring; a son, Bernard R. Sykes Jr. and his wife, Dana of Richmond; two grandchildren, Andy and Kelly Sykes; a sister, Bessie Sue Flora and her husband, Duval of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. with a graveside service following at 2:45 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Gardens. Richard Graham Tingler, age 53, died November 28, 2001 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Tingler; one son, Richard Graham Tingler II; his parents, Warren and Evelyn Tingler; and one brother, Gary Tingler; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Tingler served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and served aboard the USS Robert L. Wilson. Marian Mitchell Bennett, 74, died December 27, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bennett; and her daughter, Joan Richardson. She is survived by her sister, Hester I. Mitchell; and granddaughter, LaDawn R. Hines and her husband, Shawn; also by four nieces and their spouses, and a host of relatives and friends. BOTTGER
Anne Harrison Sneed Bottger, 86, died December 21, 2000. She was born in Virginia to Dr. Albert Micou and Lucy Wade Sneed. Formerly of Roanoke, she had been a resident of Williamsburg for two years. Until marriage in 1939 to William Carl Bottger of Winchester, Mass., she was a resident of Toano. After 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death. Mrs. Bottger was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Roanoke and of Hickory Neck Episcopal Church during her residency in Toano. She attended Westhampton College and graduated from the College of William and Mary, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Upon graduation she became secretary to Dr. Earl Gregg Swem, Head Librarian at William and Mary. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Society of the Lees of Virginia. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William C. and Shirley Bottger Jr. of Pasadena, Calif., and John W. and Carolyn Bottger of Richmond; her sister, Mrs. Frances D. McGuire of Sterling, Va.; and six grandchildren, Carl, Christina, Frederick and Erica, all of California, and Anne Fleming and Mary Ryan of Atlanta. Memorial services for Mrs. Bottger will be held today, December 28, from Hickory Neck Episcopal Church at 12 p.m. The family will receive friends in the parish house following the service. A private burial will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery. BOUZIANE
Adeline Connors Bouziane, owner of Bali Hai Resort on Holmes Beach, Fla., for 30 years, died Sunday, December 24, 2000, after a battle with cancer. Born in Janesville, Wis., Adeline was the daughter of Charles and Anna McKoen Connors. On July 1, 1947, she married William Thomas Bouziane; he preceded her in death in 1985. Also waiting to greet her in heaven were William T. "Bill" Bouziane Jr., who died in 1992; and an infant son, William T. II who died in 1948. She is survived by three loving sons, David, Mark and Alan; and three daughters-in-law, Signa, Lynn and Caryl. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Will and Cory, David Jr., Alexandra and Kathryn, and Lindsay, Adam, Tim and Jill. Adeline and Willy Bouziane Sr. moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1960. They built Bali Hai, and moved to Anna Maria Island 10 years later. The tropical climes warmed the Wisconsin girl's heart and she never entertained a thought of moving back north. Adeline was active throughout her life in civic and community affairs. She could always be relied upon to lend a helping hand to children who needed money for education and/or sports activities. She established several scholarship funds. Adeline served as a Cub Scout den mother, and was president of the PTA at several local elementary and high schools. Before moving to Florida, Adeline worked for the state of Wisconsin for 30 years. During that time, she established the Social Security offices throughout the state; developed the SSI benefit protocol; and, served as judge and arbiter in employment disputes. She was a lifetime member of the NRA. Adeline's lifelong love and advocacy for children will live on; she has asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Saint Jude Children's Research and Development Fund, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
