WILLIS
Mrs. Rosa Lee Boyd Willis of 6690 Fourth Avenue (Varina) entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Richmond Community Hospital. She was born December 16, 1909 in Bracey, Va. She was the daughter of the late John and Hettie Lee Boyd. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Laura W. Hewlett; granddaughter, Portia H. Lacy and her husband, The Reverend Dr. Cleopatrick Lacy of Griffin, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Patrice N. Lacy of Bellevue, Wash.; great-grandson, Patrick Benjamin Willis Lacy of Atlanta, Ga.; five brothers, B. Alphonso Boyd and Colie A. Boyd, A. Grant Boyd of Silver Spring, Md., Hart B. Boyd of LaCross, Va., Ralph S. Boyd of Newport News, Va.; and one sister, Joanna B. Roye of Lavonia, Mich.; six sisters-in-law, Eleanor W. Boyd, Justyne B. Boyd of Baltimore, Md., Hazel A. Boyd of Silver Spring, Md., Elise Boyd of LaCross, Va., Julia Mae Boyd, Newport News, Va., Rachel Boyd, Portsmouth, Va.; one brother-in-law, James S. Roye Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral service will be Sunday 2:30 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church, 1384 New Market Road, Dr. James L. Sailes, pastor, officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Relatives and friends kindly assemble at the church 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mrs. Rosa L. Willis. WRIGHT
Arnold Ainley Wright Jr. of Richmond died Friday, November 23, 2001. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on March 5, 1911. He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Somers Wright and Louise A. Wright, and is survived by his five children, David M. Wright, Mary Juarez, Lorraine Feuerstein, Virginia Luck, Arnold A. Wright III; two stepdaughters, Judy Justice and Glenda French; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two nephews. Mr. Wright was the owner of Commonwealth Adjustment System, an Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Manchester Moose Lodge. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2001. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 8001 Franklin Farms Dr., Richmond, Va. 23229.

'Salty' a CIAA Hall of Famer

A funeral for Melvin L. Glover Sr., a member of Virginia Union University's basketball "dream team" of the late 1930s and early 1940s, will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Joseph Jenkins Funeral Home in Richmond.
Mr. Glover, a retired Richmond teacher who earned the nickname "Salty" in his college days, was in ducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame in 1992.
He died Tuesday in Richmond at age 84.
Mr. Glover grew up in New York and came to Virginia in the fall of 1938 to start school at Virginia Union. He was a guard on the Panthers basketball team that won three CIAA championships in four years.
In 1941, the year he was captain, the team faced the Harlem Globetrotters in an exhibition at the old Richmond Blues Armory, losing 40-38 in the final minute, according to an account in The Richmond News Leader.
After graduation, Mr. Glover served in the Army Air Forces for the duration of World War II and then began barnstorming the East Coast with a Washington-based basketball team.
By the late 1940s, Mr. Glover settled in Richmond and beganteaching at the former Elba School. As a math and science educator, his career included tenures at Benjamin Graves Middle School and Maggie L. Walker and John Marshall high schools. He retired in 1986.
Survivors include his son, Melvin L. "Ras Mel" Glover Jr., of Richmond; a brother, Charles A. Glover Jr., of New York City; and a grandson.

ANDERSON
Thelma V. Anderson, 76, of Chesterfield, passed away Monday, June 11, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Gladys L. Taylor and Donita L. Anderson; sons, Herman Anderson and Kenneth Anderson; brothers, Jack Thomas of Mt. Airy, N.C. and George Thomas; sisters, Ollie Crigger, Phillyis Cook and Louise Gillespie, all of Mt. Airy, N.C., Lora Miller, Peggy Jessup and Verna Jessup; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Riverview Cemtery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen Cousins, 5561 Meadow Rd., Sandston, Va. 23150.

ANDREWS
Vivian Brinkley Andrews, 77 of 2504 Stonemill Place, formerly of Ahoskie, N.C., departed this life June 9, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Andrews was born in Hertford County, N.C. on August 29, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Ledie Alphus and Lou Overton Brinkley. Mrs. Andrews was a member of St. John Baptist Church, of Ahoskie, N.C. and prior to moving to Richmond, Va., she was an active member of the ladies golf association at Beechwood Country Club in Ahoskie, N.C. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, William "Bill" Hurlbert Andrews Jr.; daughters, Betty Andrews Webb and husband, Dennis, Richmond, Va., Jane Andrews Washington and husband, Larry, Crystal River, Fla., Billie Andrews French, of Norfolk, Va., LuAnne Andrews Moore and husband, Danny of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Jeri Webb, Richmond, Va., Christopher M. French, Virginia Beach, Va., Monica French, New York City, N.Y., Jonathan French, Norfolk, Va., Gregory Moore, Scott Moore and Tommy Moore, all of Richmond, Va.; great-granddaughter, Brittany Webb, Richmond, Va.; sisters, Cleo Lawson, Virginia Beach, Va., Shirley Umphlett, Eure, N.C., Virginia Minch, Chesapeake, Va., Celia Stroud, Greenville, N.C., Betty Lou Leggett, Williamston, N.C.; brother, Sam Brinkley, Ahoskie, N.C.; and 23 nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m, Friday, June 15, 2001, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, N.C., with Rev. J.N. Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in the Brinkley Family Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Bon Secours Richmond Health System, 5801 Bremo Rd, Richmond, Va. 23226. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Thursday June 14, 2001 from 7 to 8 p.m., will assemble at the funeral home 1 p.m. Friday prior to service and will receive friends following the services at the home of Sam Brinkley, 115 Brinkley Rd., Ahoskie, N.C. Garrett Funeral Home, 205 N.C. Highway 42 West Ahoskie, N.C. is serving the Andrews Family.

ATKINS
Muriel S. Atkins, 83, of Richmond died Friday, June 8, 2001. She was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Kirsch, and is survived by her husband, Admiral Barry K. Atkins, of Richmond; two daughters, Sue Shelia Strong Keener of Richmond, Lynne Strong Agee of Brushcreek, Tenn.; three sons, Norman Atkins of Falls Church, Va., Ian K. Atkins of Coquille, Oregon, David Strong, Boston, Mass.; three granddaughters, Courtney Keener of Richmond, Catrina Keener Rousch of Raleigh, N.C., Julie Agee; a grandson, Chris Agee; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Agee, all of Brushcreek, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Interment Friday, June 15, at 11 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice.

BRADSHAW
Grace Jones Bradshaw, 87, of Richmond, widow of Benjamin B. Bradshaw, died Monday, June 11, 2001. She is survived by two brothers, Willie L. Jones Jr., Ernest W. Jones Sr.; her nieces and nephews, E. W. (Butch) Jones Jr., R. D. Jones Sr., R. M. Boswell Jr., W. L. Jones III, R. E. Boswell, Alice B. Waltz, W. L. Boswell; and many great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bradshaw was a member of OES Glen Allen Chapter #61, and OES Dove Rebekah Chapter #11, a member of North Run Baptist Church for 71 years, and a retired employee of RF&P Railroad with 38 years of service. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

Lorene Rhoades Burroughs, age 71, of Meherrin, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001. Surviving are her husband, Alvis M. Burroughs; two sons, Billy M. Burroughs of Disputanta, Ronnie W. Burroughs of Keysville; one daughter, Rachel B. Thompson of Moseley; three grandchildren, Phillip M. Burroughs, Paul W. Burroughs, Chad M. Thompson; one great-grandchild, Kinsleigh Burroughs; a brother, Thomas M. Rhoades of Ridgeway; a sister, Vernelle Mitchell of Eden, N.C. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Ledbetter Christian Church, with interment in the church cemetery. CRAFTON
Daphne P. Crafton of South Hill died June 11, 2001. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Jackie Crafton of South Hill; a granddaughter, Heather; two sisters, Ailene Reese of South Hill and Elizabeth Matthews of Warfield. CRUMP
Miss Evelyn Crump departed this life June 7, 2001. She is survived by one foster daughter, Letitia Jefferson; one brother, Ralph Hunter; devoted uncle, David Pride; step-cousins, Dorothy J. Hudson and Joseph E. Johnson Jr. (Jean); and a host of devoted friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home. DUNN
Harold Thomas "Tommy" Dunn, age 56, died Monday, June 11, 2001. He is survived by one brother, Charles Edwin Dunn of Boydton; and three sisters, Virginia Inge of Chase City, Betty Betts of Boydton, and Phyllis Hatchel of Baskerville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Bertha Dunn and a brother Bobby Dunn. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Mecklenburg Baptist Temple in Boydton by Rev. Michael Coward and Rev. Ralph Fletcher. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home. DUNN
Maria Gregory Dunn, 82 of Mechanicsville, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at Medical College of Virginia. She was born in King William to Deucalion and Louise Gregory. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Mechanicsville and a former resident of Chickahominy Haven. Mrs. Dunn was a bookkeeper with Ft. Eustis and retired in 1984. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Judy Timberlake of Mechanicsville; her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Cliff Northon of Kenner, La.; her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Mollie Gregory of King William; her sister, Sallie Hubble of Richmond; her grandson, Clifford Northon IV; and also three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. Services for Mrs. Dunn will be held Thursday, June 14 at 2 p.m. from Bucktrout of Williamsburg chapel with burial to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. FRANKLIN
Florence Edith Franklin, age 85, a resident of Westminster-Canterbury, Richmond, Va. died June 11, 2001, after a short but intense battle with acute leukemia. Ms. Franklin was the daughter of the late Rev. John Mack Franklin and Edith Allen Franklin of the Lynchburg, Va. area. She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Franklin, and his wife, Anna May Franklin, of New York City. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1937. Ms. Franklin was formerly in the Actuarial Department of the Life Insurance Company of Virginia for a period of 32 years, during which time she was made an officer of the company. She was a long-time resident of Richmond's Fan District, and served for several years as a volunteer at Stuart Circle Hospital. Ms. Franklin had many creative interests, including painting, and she was a long-time devotee of the theater, both in New York City and in Richmond. Her life was marked by her championing of ideas and causes she considered important and just. Among her family and many friends, to whom she was unselfishly devoted, she was known for genuinely and actively respecting the rights and feelings of all people. There are no immediate survivors. At her request, her body has been donated to the Commonwealth of Virginia for medical research. A memorial gathering will be held in Big Island, Va. at a later date.

Mrs. Annie I. (Mama Annie) Fuller, 78 of 1208 Carlisle Ave., formerly of Charles City, Va., departed this life June 9, 2001. Surviving are four devoted children, Doris Robinson, Louis Bacot, Sandra Griffin and Ronald Baylor; one stepson, David Young; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Bessie Jefferson and devoted Anna Jefferson; three nieces, Sally Green, devoted Sarah Harding and devoted Clara Johnson; two nephews, John Cotman Jr. and Robert Jefferson Jr.; two sons-in-law, Willis Robinson and devoted Nathaniel Griffin; one daughter-in-law, Ernestine Baylor; other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Pk. Blvd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., Rev. Eugene A. Peay Jr. officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
