LINDSEY
Ann Vaughan Morris Lindsey, 92, of Virginia Beach, died March 5, 2001, at Winderemere Nursing Home. She was born on December 13, 1908, to John Stewart and Annie May Morris of Jetersville, Virginia. Ann Lindsey was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis "Jake" Lindsey, and is survived by a brother, Emmett Webster Morris of Sandston, Va.; and a sister, Helen Lee Aulisio of Lakewood, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. Ann Lindsey retired from the Virginia Beach School System in July 1978 after a 34 year career as a teacher and school principal. Mrs. Lindsey began teaching in Hillsville in 1929. From there she went on to teach in Hopewell for nine years. Her Virginia Beach career began at Kempsville Elementary School in 1946 and later at W.T. Cooke before becoming principal of Kings Grant Elementary in 1961. She served nine years as principal of Kings Grant Elementary. Mrs. Lindsey was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Beasley Bible Class, and the Katherine Ward Circle. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. A church service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church by Reverend James M. Tongue. The burial will be in Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax, Va., at 11 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 212 19th Street, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451 or to the Jetersville United Methodist Church of Jetersville, Va. Mrs. Frances Craven Mangels, 73, of Charlotte, and formerly of Richmond, Va., died Sunday, March 4, 2001. She was employed as an accountant with the State of Virginia. She had spent most of her life in Richmond, Va., before moving to Charlotte in 1993. Mrs. Mangels is survived by sisters, Ann Gardner of Charlotte and Jean Thomas of King, N.C.; brother, Riddick Craven of Hudson, Fla.; sons, George Modlin and wife, Eileen of Rochester, N.Y.; John Modlin and wife, Tami of Sarasota, Fla., Rick Roberts of Charlotte; granddaughter, Katherine Duke and husband, Lindsey of Richmond, Va.; great-grandson, Lindsey Jr. of Richmond, Va.; and sister-in-law, Maxine Craven of Mint Hill. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, N.C. Memorials may be directed to Harris Hospice or to Eastern Hill Baptist Church. Ben Mayo Jr. of 8405 Forest Hill Ave. departed this life Sunday, March 4, 2001. Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mayo. He is survived by three sons, Ben Parker Mayo Sr., James Mayo and Lonnie S. Mayo; four daughters, Ann Mayo, Jessie Amos, Dorothy Banks and Joan Mayo; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Roland Mayo; several nieces, nephews and cousins; three daughters-in-law, Gail Mayo, Sharon Mayo and Betty M. Mayo; son-in-law, Louis Cheatham; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull streets. McCALL
Kathleen Ann McCall, 39, of Richmond, died Monday, March 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Donald E. McCall; her children, Kevin McCall and Shawn McCall; her parents, Donald and Ann Reid; her siblings, Kenneth Reid, Barbara Rawlings, Susan Hammer and Timothy Reid; seven nieces and nephews. Trained at Mary Washington and U.Va. as a medical technologist, Kathleen worked at Virginia Allergy and Pulmonary Association and taught water aerobics at area YMCAs, where she was planning a breast cancer survivor course. Kathleen was a warm, vivacious, caring soul who made old and new friends always feel welcome. She strove throughout her bright life to share her love of cooking and crafts, volunteered tirelessly for causes and people she believed in, and to bring relief and comfort to her fellow breast cancer survivors. Her special gift was to recognize and celebrate the special gifts of others. Her strong determination made her a role model for many. She will be deeply missed, but warmly remembered by all whose lives she touched. She rests at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m., and where a funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Francis Carl "Pop" Morgan, age 81, of Rockville, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Reba Morgan. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn M. Smith; two sons, William "Billy" Morgan and Garland Wayne Morgan; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Norma Cumberland, Rose Neville, Ann Pace, Grace Long and Regina Martin. He was residing with his present wife, Anna Mae Shaw Morgan in Mechanicsville. Also surviving are one stepdaughter, SuzAnne Martin; one stepson, Randy Shaw; five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. He was a life member of Rockville Fire Department and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Bradley Aaron Reid died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He is survived by his son, Jake Aaron Reid and his wife, Linda Reid; his mother, Betty J. Reid; and two sisters, Bettina Marie Mader and Michelle Reid Hall. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett B. Reid Jr. He left behind many friends and family with loving memories, mostly of his devotion to his son. "We'll miss you Brad." W. Ray Taylor, 58, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Williamsburg Community Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Toano and for the past 37 years farmed in and around James City County. Ray was known as a devoted family man and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his father, Stewart U. Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith Taylor; his mother, Lonell Taylor; two daughters, Wendy Taylor Brown, and Kathy and her husband, Kevin Rhind; two sons, S. Todd Taylor and his wife, Shelly and Matthew Ray Taylor; two sisters, Beverly Hall and Barbara McKown; two brothers, Clifton Taylor and William V. Taylor; three grandchildren, Kyle Rhind, Katelin Rhind, and Hannah Chasse Brown; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
