BROOKE
Richard Brooke Jr., 75, died peacefully in Jacksonville, Fla., March 4, 2001, after a brief illness. The son of Richard and Estelle Ralston Brooke, he was born February 15, 1926, in Weston, W.Va. He graduated from St. Christopher's School in 1944 and served two years in the Hospital Corps of the U.S. Navy. He received a BA from the University of Virginia and earned a Certificate of Hospital Administration from the Medical College of Virginia. In 1955, Mr. Brooke became administrator of Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville. He subsequently spent 36 years with Independent Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1996 as vice president and director of the Group Insurance Division. He served as past president of the West Jacksonville Rotary Club, past president of the American Red Cross, N.E. Florida Chapter, past board president of St. Johns Country Day School, past president of the American Heart Association, N.E. Florida Chapter, board member of the Riverside Fine Arts Association, past president of the Jacksonville Historical Society, and past board member of the Florida Historical Societies. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Mr. Brooke was predeceased in 1996 by his wife, Julia Olive Craig Brooke and is survived by his wife, Katherine Slaughter Brooke; a sister, Catherine Buckingham and her husband, Ronald Buckingham; two brothers, Ralston Brooke of Richmond, Va., and his wife, Beverley, and Francis Brooke of Franklin, Va., and his wife, Judy; two daughters, Julia Brooke Davis and husband, Tommy, and Cathleen Dunkle and husband, Kurt; a son, Richard Brooke III and wife, Diane Brooke; six grandchildren, Brooke Davis, Susan Davis, Richard Brooke IV, Taylor Brooke, Caroline Dunkle and Madeline Dunkle; and seven nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Jacksonville, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or any of the above organizations.

Patricia P. Caywood, 59, of Chesterfield, passed away March 6, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Harry K. Caywood; son, Michael Caywood; sisters, Betty MacPherson, Iris Granger, Arlene Grimes and Leatrice Mizell; brothers, Lankford Perkins and Cecil Perkins. Audrey Watson Cobb, age 70, of Charlotte Court House, died Monday, March 5, 2001. She was the widow of George M. Cobb. Mrs. Cobb served as commissioner of revenue of Charlotte County for the past 17 years. Surviving are one son, George M. Cobb Jr. of Charlotte Court House; two daughters, Deborah C. Eva Scott Cowell, 79, of Doswell, passed away March 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, J. Nelson Cowell; her son, James F. "Jim" Cowell and his wife, Kathy; devoted sisters-in-law, Margaret Cowell and Ann Scott; mother, Lillie Scott; sister, Nina Elliott; two brothers, Osborne and Julian Scott; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Calvin L. Dillard, age 72, of Richmond, died March 5, 2001 at home. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Wayne and Scott Dillard; stepson and stepdaughter, Steve Moore and Debbie Richter; four grandchildren; brothers, Raymond I., James W. and Richard A. Dillard; and a sister, Joyce Gordon. Ada H. Dingus, 87 of Chesterfield, died March 5, 2001. She was the widow of Joe C. Dingus. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harvey and Lily Mae Hall; sisters, Stella Frazer and Ruth Peters; brothers, Roy, Lonnie, Earnest, Melvin, Stuart, and Ed Hall. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Doris Hall Holland, Donald Peters, Muriel Hall Dingus, Lee Hall, Stephen Hall, Patsy Peters Dotson, Doyle Frazer, Stuart Hall Jr., Brenda Hall Pruitt, Everetta Hall Boyd, Ricky Joe Peters, Jean Hall Melton, and Edward Hall Jr. She was a retired school teacher from Bartley, W.Va., and a member of Rebecka Lodge #86 of Bradshaw, W.Va. Mrs. Dingus was also a longtime member of Second Branch Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Va. Pauline W. Duke, 81, a lifelong resident of Ashland, died March 5, 2001. She is survived by her brother, Harold S. Duke; nephew, Thomas Nelson Page Duke III and his wife, Debbie; five great-nieces and nephews, Thomas IV, Virginia, Tyler, Sally Duke Gardner and Laneen Duke Wood; nephew, Harry Eugene Duke Sr.; great-nephew, Harry Eugene Duke Jr. Miss Duke was a member of the Henry Clay Womens Club. She was a certified professional secretary with Lawyers Title and worked for many years at the Presbyterian Board. The family will receive friends at Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Arthur W. Earley, 70, of Chester, passed away March 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn D. Emilie V. Figuly, 94, of Highland Springs, Va., passed away March 5, 2001. She is survived by her two brothers, John S. Figuly of Mechanicsville and Ben Figuly and his wife, Virginia of Quinton; her sister, Esther E. Figuly of Highland Springs; a host of nieces and nephews, and also great-nieces and nephews. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church of Quinton. A graduate of Highland Springs High School, she attended Fredericksburg State Teacher College and worked for a number of years at the A&P Tea Co. office in Richmond, Va., as a statistician. She also worked for the Virginia Department of Agriculture for 22 years as an administrative office accountant, retiring at the age of 68. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Park Mausoleum. Louise Griffith Hamlin, 95, of Richmond, died on Monday, March 5, 2001, at Westminster-Canterbury where she lived for 25 years. An active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood for almost 50 years, Louise was a member of Chapter C at her death. She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Woeste and her husband, Stanley of Charlotte, N.C.; her son, Stan Hall and his wife, Marilyn of Newport News; grandchildren, Andy and Jeannie Bonnewell of Pittsburgh, Pa., Steve and Lori Hall of Chesterfield, Va., James and Johanna Hall of Staten Island, N.Y., and Mary Lou and Andy Hall of West Point, N.Y.; and eight great-grandchildren. HIRSCHMAN
Rita Hirschman passed away in her sleep on March 5, 2001, after valiantly fighting a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her three children, Cliff, Suzanne and Laura; her son-in-law, Michael Weil; and her three grandsons, Marc, Ben and Dylan. She was a graduate of Hunter College and received her master's degree in library science at Rutgers University. As assistant professor of library science at Ohio State University, she served as head of the libraries of social work and home economics, as well as being director of library personnel. Following her relocation to Richmond in 1979, she was employed as administrative assistant to the former sheriff of the city of Richmond until her retirement in 1991. Following her retirement she served as volunteer at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. A member of Congregation Or-Ami, she was active in temple functions as well as a member of Hadassah. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Thursday at Congregation Or-Ami, 9400 Huguenot Rd. Burial will follow at Or-Ami at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
