John Wingfield Scott, 36, of Bumpass, died on September 19, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Grace Vaughan Scott of Frederick, Md.; his parents, Vaughan H. and Walter W. Scott of Richmond; his brother, Dr. Walter W. Scott Jr. and his wife, Dr. Angela R. Scott of Greenville, N.C.; his sister, Mary Wingfield Scott Walters and her husband, Paul L. Walters of Richmond; two nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will be private. Slipped into eternal rest on September 19, 2002, Edith C. Williams, 98, of 2009 Idlewood Avenue. She was born October 3, 1903. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pleasant A. Williams. She is survived by a loving daughter, Helen W.

WYLIE
Robert H. Wylie, age 73, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Helen W. Wylie; four children, Stephen Wylie of Florida, Mark Wylie of California, Kendall Wylie and Lisa Wylie, both of Richmond; also four grandchildren; his brother, David Wylie of Pennsylvania. Mr. Wylie served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Mary Lumpkin Atkins, 74, of King William, passed away Friday, March 23, 2001 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital after a brief illness. She was a devoted wife of 58 years and a loving, caring mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Henry Lewis Atkins; three children, Rose Mary Atkins Stone and her husband, Tommy, Raymond Lewis Atkins Sr. and Anne, and Kathy Atkins Parker and her husband, Winter; nine grandchildren, Anthony Stone and his wife, Tammy, Steven Stone and his wife, Stephanie, Jennifer Stone Longest and her husband, Donnie, April Atkins, Melissa Parker, Raymond Atkins Jr., Allison Parker, Rebecca Parker and Winter Parker IV; five geat-grandchildren, Adam, Dylan, Loghan, Summer and Evan; one sister, Thelma Passagulupp of Tappahannock. H. Lester Barlow, age 76, of Richmond, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, formerly of Princeton, N.J., and born in Plainsboro, N.J., a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1941. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Barlow; his daughter and son-in-law, Lyn and Gene Ferreri of Raleigh, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Martha Barlow of Louisa, Va.; three grandsons, Matthew, Josh and Chris. Mr. Barlow was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired in 1984 after 40 years of service as Senior Vice President of First National Bank of Princeton, N.J. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park. CLELAND
Mervin Ervin Cleland, 80, beloved son of the late John and Bessie Fox Cleland of Steuben County, N.Y., died on March 23, 2001 in Richmond of complications due to his long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Formerly of Mechanicsville, "Merv" had lived with his stepson, George G. Blackwell in Richmond since 1999. He also leaves behind his loving wife, Laura Rennolds Cleland of ManorCare Nursing Home in Richmond; two sisters, Florence C. Schoonover of Avoca, N.Y., and Marion C. Towner of Hammondsport, N.Y.; five other stepchildren and their families; three nieces, a nephew and their families, and the numerous other people who came to know and love him over the years. Merv, who was retired from AT&T, was a decorated Army veteran of WWII, having survived not only the D-Day Invasion in Normandy, but also the subsequent campaigns in both Europe and North Africa. Mr. Cleland's family wishes to thank the employees and volunteers at the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Richmond, the Richmond Senior Center, the Capitol Area Agency on Aging, Circle Center Adult Day Services, MCV North Hospital and most especially Hospice of Central Virginia for their participation in the loving care of this good man.
