Sharron Diane Tarleton, 55, of Dinwiddie County, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2002 in MCV Hospital, Richmond. She was a native of Petersburg, Va. and was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church, Petersburg. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Clarke Tarleton; two daughters, Sharron Gayle and her husband, Phillip Samuel Vaughan and Christie Marie Tarleton, both of Chesterfield; stepgrandchild, Raven Vaughan; her mother and father, Leslie Eugene and Beatrice P. Thayer of Dinwiddie, two brothers, Leslie Eugene Thayer, Jr. of Chesterfield and Charles Otis Thayer of Dinwiddie; two sisters, Linda Gayle Carey of Chesterfield and Shirley Marie Adams of Dinwiddie; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Western Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Sowers officiating. Burial to follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Arrangements by the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Western Heights Baptist Church building fund, in memory of Sharron, 24416 Cox Road, Petersburg, Va. 23803.

TOWNSEND
Joshua Daniel Townsend, 76, of Mechanicsville, departed this life Wednesday, Janaury 16, 2002. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a life member of the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was preceded in death by his son, James C. Townsend and is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Lee Cofer Townsend; two sons, Joshua D. Jr. and Robert K. and his wife, Susan; three granddaughters, Christina, Danielle and Janette; two grandsons, Josh and Bobby; one sister, Mary K. Newsom; and two brothers, Norris G. and James E. Townsend. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Janaury 18, 2002, Pole Green Church of Christ. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Karen "Auntiboo" Weldington departed this life January 12, 2002. She is survived by her loving family. Remains may be viewed at Chiles Funeral Home on Friday, 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside rites 12 noon at Evergreen Cemetery.

WINN
Dr. Thomas Meredith Winn Jr., of Roanoke, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2002. Dr. Winn was a son of Violet Gary Winn and the late Dr. Thomas Meredith Winn Sr., and was born October 30, 1938 in Covington, Va. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Richmond and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1963. After a year of internship in Charlotte, N.C., he returned to MCV and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1967. He served for two years as a Captain in the Air Force at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio. In 1969, he moved to Roanoke to join Drs. Garrett G. Gooch III and C. Leon Jennings in their practice and began his long association with Lewis-Gale. At the time of his death, he was the senior physician in the Western Virginia OB-GYN Center in Roanoke. Dr. Winn was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he had served several terms as a deacon and sang with the chancel choir. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Meade Gordon Winn; and his children, Thomas Meredith Winn III and his wife, Sara and their children, Madeline Meade and Mary Gordon Bugbee Winn, Eustace Gordon Winn of Alexandria, Andrew Meade Winn of Richmond and Meredith Gilmer Winn of Charlottesville. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Willard Gary Winn and his wife, Marilyn of Aiken, S.C.; and his cousin, Estelle Echols and her husband, Tim of Charlottesville. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2002. A private burial service will take place in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Thomas Meredith Winn Jr. Fund at the University of Richmond, c/o the Development Office, University of Richmond, Va. 23173. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

ZERCHER
Harriet L. Zercher, 96, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at the Colonial Heights Convalescent Center. She was born in Palmyra, Mo., a daughter of the late Charles and Harriet Millspaugh Lyon. Mrs. Zercher was a music supervisor for the Hopewell and Emporia Greenville County School Systems. She was a voice and piano instructor and played for several area churches. She directed the choirs as well. Mrs. Zercher was a member of the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club and the Colonial Heights Women's Club, and for many years she was the leader for the former Happy Notes vocal group. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Z. and Norris E. Jones of Colonial Heights; two grandchildren, Gregory E. "Greg" Jones of Chesterfield and Elizabeth J. Guidry of Colonial Heights; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Jones of Chesterfield; Skylar Guidry, Lauren Guidry and Hannah Guidry, all of Colonial Heights; and a sister, Mabel Jobe of Springfield, Va. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, January 18, 2002 at 1 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, with the Rev. Mark Dailey officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

APPLE
Charles Apple, 45, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Yorktown, died Monday, January 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Apple; his son, Charles Naill; and mother, Kylene Apple; one sister, Teresa Poage; two nephews and one niece. His remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight). A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MCV Hospital Transplant Program, Attention: Paul Descutner, 1200 East Broad St., P.O. Box 980510, Richmond, Va. 23298.

BARTLE
Gilbert Leonard Bartle Jr., 86, of Chester, died Monday, January 28, 2002. He was retired from Miller manufacturing. Mr. Bartle is survived by his wife, Pearl Womack Bartle; two daughters, Catherine Watkins and Shirley Gilbert; one son, Gilbert L. Bartle III; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Sprouse; and one brother, James Bartle. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, at Salem Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. Flowers are welcome but the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund.

BATTLE
Lindberg Battle of Lynhaven Ave. departed this life Tuesday, January 29, 2002. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.

BOHL
Hunter Dale Bohl, infant son of Chris and Tricia Bohl, died Saturday, January 26, 2002. He is also survived by his brother, Connor N. Bohl; grandparents, Paul H. Connors and Pat O'Hare, Jacqueline S. Connors and Robert Williams, Elizabeth and Wayne Altrichter, Jesse Pieter Bohl and Mei Leng Lau; great-grandparents, Patricia Marie Connors and Walter P. Nillson, Frederick R. and Jean D. Bohl; aunts and uncles, Kristi H. Garstang, Kevin P. Bohl, Stacey E. and Scott W. Altrichter. The family will receive friends 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Signal Hill Memorial Park.

BRIGHT
Willie J. Bright of Richmond died January 26, 2002. Surviving are his wife, Lila M. Bright; two daughters, Wilhemina Norris and Deborah Bright; one son, James Bright; six grandchildren; one sister, Bessie George; three brothers, Franklin Bright, Bud George and Atlas Goodman; stepmother, Louise Bright; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where funeral services will be held Thursday January 31, at 12 noon, Rev. E. Walter Anderson. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

BROWN
Naomi Smallwood Brown of Richmond died January 27, 2002. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Avenue. Funeral notice later.

COOKE
Caroline Myers Cooke was born September 18, 1909 and died in her home on January 26, 2002. Burial will be at Fork Church on Old Ridge Rd. in Hanover Co. on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held at Grace & Holy Trinity Church, Richmond at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace & Holy Trinity Church, Fork Church, Doswell or St. Catherine's School.

CORDOVA
Nettie Johnson Cordova, 85, of Hopewell, died Monday, January 28, 2002. She was the widow of U.S. Army retired, John Bautista Cordova. Mrs. Cordova is survived by two daughters, Joanne C. Setchel of Powells Point, N.C., and Dolores Chavez of Alta Loma, Calif.; one son, Robert J. Cordova of Hopewell; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and one sister, Ardis Webster of Salem, Ore. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2002 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 1, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Troy Kaichen, pastor of Tabb Street Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Parks, Prince George, Va.

DANIELS
Departed this life January 25, 2002, William E. Daniels of 3409 Oxnard Rd. He is survived by his wife, Patricia W. Daniels; four sisters, Alberta D. Carrington, Ann E. Wilson, Katherine M. Savannah and Carrie M. Mitchell; two brothers, George T. and Horace L. Daniel; 12 aunts; two uncles; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; four godchildren, Marvin and Jamia Jones, Jennifer Pride and Chelsea Johnson; mother-in-law, Louise H. Wilson; one sister-in-law, Rochelle Daniel; three brothers-in-law, Michael Carrington, Robert Wilson and Louis Savannah; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Wednesday (today) 1 p.m. at Crusade for Christ Family Worship Church, 1700 W. Moore St., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Pastor James I. Johnson officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

DORTCH
Mrs. Helen Turnbull Dortch, age 86, of South Hill, died Saturday, January 26, 2002. Mrs. Dortch was the widow of the Honorable Meredith Carter Dortch and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and David G. Lowe of Richmond; and a brother, M. Henry Turnbull of Lawrenceville. Funeral services for Mrs. Dortch will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 by Father Shawn Griffith and Rev. Robert Laughlin at All Saints Episcopal Church. Interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church. FEREBEE
Dorothy S. Ferebee, age 59, of Susan, formerly of Richmond, went home to be with Jesus Christ on Monday, January 28, 2002. She was a former member and Past Worthy Matron of Powhatan Chapter No. 146 O.E.S. Survived by her three children, Debora F. Vela, Elizabeth S. Rapp, Marywilma F. Mustian; and her brothers and sisters, C.R. Slate, Lucille J. Fogg, S.C. Slate, Frances S. Lipscomb and Nancy S. Wood; also six grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2002, in Clarksbury United Methodist Church Hardyville/Deltaville, preceded by an Eastern Star service. Interment private. Sallie Priscilla Fowler departed this life on January 28, 2002 at the age of 69. She is survived by her loving family. Survivors include Daniel Byrd Fowler, Deborah J. Lambert, Linda S. Tuck, Tara L. Dail, James T. Fowler, Daniel B. Fowler, Patrick G. Fowler, AnnieMae Malamud, Dixie Bounds, PrimRose Darnell, Kathy Bastos, Sherman Ford, Pat Harris; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on January 31, 2002 at Washington Memorial Park at 2 p.m. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of Richmond.

FRANKLIN
Lena E. "Pat" Way Franklin, 89, of Pennsylvania, died January 29, 2002. She was the widow of Garland A. Franklin, who died in 1986. Born in Salunga, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George K. and Elizabeth A. Weidman Way. She was a long-time Richmond resident, having served for 30 years as a bookkeeper and officer at the First and Merchants Bank, now Bank of America, in Richmond before moving back to Lancaster County, Pa. in 1976. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Lititz, Pa. She enjoyed playing pinochle. Survived by her nieces and nephews, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sadie Alexander and Eva Bachman. A Christian Prayer Service will be held on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. from the Gundel Funeral Home, Lancaster, Pa. (717)393-1776. Interment in Maury Cemetery, Richmond, Va. on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Lena's memory may be made to the St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, Pa. 17543.

FRENCH
Frank Hannon French Jr. of Richmond passed away Monday, January 28, 2002. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Todd French and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Moncure French; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon F. and Rev. Hugh T. Harris; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry W. and Lisa A. French; five grandchildren, W. Brent Logan and his wife, Emily, Mark R. Logan, Anna M. French, Jordan E. French, Elliot F. French; a great-grandson, Andrew Hannon Logan; and his sister, Alexis; a brother, Llewellyn V. French and his wife, Frances; and a dear friend and nurse, Doris Slade. Mr. French was a Navy veteran of WWII, a 1942 graduate of John Marshall High School, a member of the Churchill Gang, and a 50 year member of Henrico Union Masonic Lodge #130 AF & AM. He was also a retired construction engineer with the City of Richmond Public Schools. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1101 Horsepen Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229.
