Hoyt "Jerry" Jarrett, 80, of Richmond, died at his home on Monday, October 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife, June M. Jarrett; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet J. and John A. Tyler of Richmond; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael H. and Lori N. Jarrett of Dixon, Ill.; four grandchildren, Kate, Gray and Ned Tyler and Cal Jarrett; three sisters, Leo Fix of Kingsport, Tenn., Estene Crowder of Jamestown, N.C. and Sue
Johnson of Wilmington, N.C.; a brother, Douglas Jarrett of Raleigh, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jarrett was a Navy veteran of WWII and Korea. James David Jones, age 76, of 118 N. Main Street, Chatham, Va., died October 6, 2001 at the residence of his daughter, Nancy Hayes, in Crawley, W.Va. after a short illness. Mr.
Jones was born June 27, 1925 in Martinsvile, Va. He was the son of the late James Marion
Jones and Lucy Charles Jones. He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie Gray Jones. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy
Jones Hayes and her husband, Bill of Crawley, W.Va.; one son, James David
Jones Jr. and his wife, Isabel of Bluffton, S.C.; one grandson, Joshua David
Jones of Bluffton, S.C.; one sister, Lucy Charles Bendall of Yanceyville, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Susan Zellar of Wilmington, Del. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He practiced law in Chatham for 44 years. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. John S. Ruef and the Rev. James Mathieson. Interment will be in the Chatham Burial Park. Marjie Barnett Kline, of Richmond, widow of Charles E. Kline, died October 9, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Wayne and Charles E. Kline Jr.; a daughter, Paulett K. Arline Morton Layne, age 88, of Victoria, Va., died Monday, October 8, 2001. She was a former member and pianist of Victoria Presbyterian Church, former organist of Centralia Presbyterian Church in Chester and present member of the Blackstone Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Layne was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bethlehem Chapter #15 in Crewe, Va. She was the widow of Willis Claude Layne and is survived by three children, Jerry Morton Layne of Richmond, Carole Layne Hagaman and her husband, Joseph Edward Hagaman of Blackstone, and B. Chris and his wife, Melody Layne of Manassas; two brothers, Cmdr. USN (Ret.) Wilbur Young Morton of Plano, Texas and Joseph Garland Morton of Victoria; four grandchildren, Teresa Simmons, Michele Drinkard, Geoffrey and Meredith Layne; four great-grandchildren, Ben and Tara Simmons, Amanda and Ty Edward Drinkard. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Blackstone Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria. Fred H. "Larry" Little, 60, of Ebony, Va., died Monday, October 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Carlies S. Little; his son, Steven L. Little; stepson, Ray Davis; two stepdaughters, Dale

David Russell Marshall, age 84, died on October 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlington C. Marshall; two brothers, C. Willard of Florida and Robert H. of Richmond; and two nieces. John Greenway Mayes, 47, of San Diego, Calif., died Tuesday, October 9, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Greenaway Mayes; and his mother, Dorothy Robbins Mayes of Stoney Creek, Va. He is survived by Linda Mayes Pope; her husband, Jack W. Pope and their children, Charles W. Pope and James S. Pope, Susan Carey Mayes, Anne Sinclair Mayes, all of San Diego, Betty Mayes Hecht and her children, Margaret H. McGEE
Elsie Bolton McGee, age 89, of Beaufont Healthcare Center, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001. Mrs. McGee was born in 1912 in Richmond to the late Benjamin and Annie Bolton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Shaw "Mac" McGee in 1999, as well as four sisters and one brother. After her marriage Mrs. McGee and her husband lived in several different locales. Mr. McGee's position as a Woolworth's manager often involved a transfer to a new city. Upon his retirement they returned to Richmond to be closer to family. Mrs. McGee is survived by her daughter, Patricia of Newark, Del.; her son, William of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandson, Eric and his wife, Renee also of Charlotte; her sister, Lillie R. Mrs. Louise Gills McLaughlin of Farmville died October 9, 2001 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Buckingham County, Va., June 7, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Leona Gills. She was married to George S. McLaughlin, and he preceded her in death. She was a retired nurse and had devoted her entire career to Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, Va. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara M. Greene of Halifax, Va.; three brothers, Lawrence H. Gills, D. Wallace Gills of Richmond and O. Carroll Gills of Arlington; one sister, Miss June L. Gills of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Robert Tyree Greene Jr. of Raleigh, N.C. and George Lucius Jeffreys Greene of Annapolis, Md. MOFFETT
Robert L. Moffett, 84, of Richmond, died October 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine
Johnson Moffett; his sons and their wives, Wayne Lee and Sandra Ryan Moffett and David Patrick and Shirley Kisil Moffett; grandchildren, Laura Marie and Daniel Scott Moffett; cousin, Howard Nagengast. Mr. Moffett was a graduate of Benedictine High School and the former Richmond Mechanic's Institute. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the Army Medical Corps, and he participated in the North African and Italian Invasions. Following the war, Mr. Moffett worked as an optician for over 25 years, and he holds a patent for an optical measuring device that has been used nationwide. Mr. Moffett left the optical business in 1971 when he started his own architectural design business and he designed well over 1000 homes in the Richmond area up until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Moffett was a former member of the Richmond Home Builder's Association and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral notice later.
MORGAN
Katherine Davis Morgan, 96, of Richmond, widow of James W. Morgan, died October 8, 2001. She is survived by her granddaughters, Suzanne P. Jefferson and Elaine Patterson Wimer. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. MUNCY
Nancy T. Muncy, of Richmond, died Monday, October 8, 2001, after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Born in Goochland County, she grew up in Bland County in southwest Virginia with her grandfather and step-grandmother, Fred B. and Elena Tate. Both parents, Edward G. Powers and Minnie Annabell Tate died by the time she was two years old. Her adult life was spent in the Richmond area with her surviving spouse, James B. Muncy Jr., to whom she was married 43 years. She is also survived by two sons, Timothy E. Muncy, of Richmond, and Fredrick M. Muncy, of Virginia Beach, his wife, Theresa; and two grandchildren, Ryan Christopher and Lauren Michelle. Survivors include a very special aunt, Dr. Dorothy Ellen Tate, of Auburn, Ala., who was like a mother to Nancy; and aunts, Mary Ann Blazosky, State College, Pa., Joyce DeWilde, of Wytheville; and uncles, Martin D., Lee B. and Dr. David J. Tate, all of Bland County. She made history by retiring as the first female police patrol officer from the Henrico County Division of Police in August of 1999 after more than 25 years of service. After retirement, she worked as a special assignment security agent with MANNIS & ASSOCIATES of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho through a family-owned consulting firm, Muncy Associated Management Services, Inc., of which she was vice president. She was also active in the Henrico County Retired Police Officers Association, Lakeside Optimist Club and in Bland High School's alumni class of 1957. A private family viewing will be held from 3 to 5 on Wednesday afternoon and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Woody's Parham Road Chapel, 1771 Parham Road. A police memorial will be held at Woody's Parham Road Chapel at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Officer Nancy T. MYERS
Eloise Gee Myers, widow of James Roland Myers, of Richmond and Sandy Point Beach in Westmoreland County, Va., died October 7, 2001. Born in 1908, she was the daughter of Mabel Ligon and Edward Maurice Gee. Upon the death of her husband in 1958, she became the registrar for the dean of the School of Pharmacy at the Medical College of Virginia and three years later, the administrative secretary to the dean. After retiring in 1976, Mrs. Myers moved permanently to her summer home in Westmoreland County. She worked for Harold Clark Lumber Co. and then for Earl Withers Lumber Co., retiring again 2 1/2 years ago. She was predeceased by her son, James Roland Myers, Jr. and a brother, Edward J. Gee. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. Frazier of Richmond; her brother, James M. Gee of Wilmington, N.C.; her six granddaughters, Janet S. Moyers of Richmond, Carol S. Wobby of Naperville, Ill., Diane L. Selph of Chicago, Ill., Susan S. Gresham of Greensboro, N.C., Stephanie M. Myers of Menasha, Wis., and Vicki M. Meyer of Waukesha, Wis. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
