TANNER
Beverley "Jeanie" Jean Martin Tanner, 51, of Madison, died November 13, 2001 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 11, 1950 in Richmond, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Hill Martin. She was a medical technologist for 25 years, in the laboratories of the University of Virginia Hospital, Rockingham Memorial Hospital and, most recently, Culpeper Regional Hospital. In addition to attending her children's college athletic events, she enjoyed gardening, painting and woodworking. Jeanie is survived by her father, Lawrence H. Martin of Crewe, Va.; husband, William Dawson Tanner of Madison; a daughter, Elaina Blair Tanner of Winchester; a son, Jarrod Martin Tanner of Murfreesboro, N.C.; two sisters, Rebecca Martin Vaughan and husband, Robert M. Vaughan of Crewe and Cynthia Martin Colston and husband, Robert L. Colston of Midlothian; two nieces, Jamie Wynn Vaughan and Elizabeth Ashley Colston. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2001 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Rose Park Cemetery conducted by Dr. R. Brenda C. Tate of Prince William County, Va. passed away Thursday, November 8, 2001 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. She was born on December 2, 1950 in Princess Anne County to loving parents, Anthony and Dorothy Cooper. A graduate of Kellam High School and Norfolk State University, she was employed at Virginia Beach General Hospital as an L.P.N. for 13 years. After relocating to Slidell, La. and Prince William County, Va., she continued to work in various occupations as a private duty nurse, nursing instructor, assistant store manager and craft speciality shop owner. However, her greatest work was her ability to spread love, laughter and God's word. Survivors include her devoted husband of 27 years, Hansford Emanuel Tate; adoring daughter, Christina Tate; six sisters, Deborah Crique, Gloria Coston, Betty Harris, Shirley Siplin, Wanda Cooper and Angela Ingram; three brothers, Michael Cooper, Anthony "Woody" Cooper and Virgil Sean Cooper; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Elmer Guy Via Jr., 76, of Richmond, retired electrical engineer from Virginia Power, passed away surrounded by his loving family November 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy J. Via; six daughters, Nancy V. Maloney and her husband, Wayne, Linda V. Hirsch and her husband, Vince, Carol V. Flynn and her husband, Jay, Joy S. Hatch and her husband, Ben, Jean V. Heiser and her husband, Kris, Kay E. Harnett and her husband, Paul; two sons, James G. Via and Diane, Steven G. Via and Claudia; sister, Evelyn Jessup and her husband, Warren; brother, Raymond Via and his wife, Lila Mae; also 12 grandchildren. Mr. Via was a member of the Engineers Club at Virginia Power, an active member of Virginia Power Retiree's Association, a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a Sergeant with the 104th Timberwolf Division, and a Purple Heart recipient. Alton E. Wade, age 79, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Mable D. Wade; two daughters, Pat Rollins and Brenda Brooks; two sisters, Francis Colyer and Millie W. Matthews, one grandson, Jay Rollins; one niece and five nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. WALLER
John Moncure Waller Jr., 77, formerly of 3321 Grove Ave., died November 13, 2001 in Jetersville after declining in health for two years. He was the only child of the late John M. Waller and Marie Koiner Waller. Jack was one of the boys who grew up on West Avenue in the 1930's. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School, Virginia Tech, and the University of Virginia and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed by Lithoplate, Inc.,
Jones Motor Car Co., and Sears Roebuck. He was a member of The Country Club of Virginia, Sons of the Revolution, and St. James's Episcopal Church. Survivors are cousins, William K. Goolrick of New York City, William A. Waller of Nantucket and Edward Waller of Danville. A graveside service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery on Friday, November 16 at 2 p.m.
WILSON
Rose S. Wilson, age 66, died yesterday at 8:15 a.m. at her home in Rosyln Hills, having battled renal cancer for several months. Funeral services will be held at Second Baptist Church on River Road at Gaskins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, and there will be a visitation period observed on Friday, November 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mills Chapel, located at 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Vivian R. Woods, 62, of Chesterfield, departed this life Wednesday, November 14, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, E. Gene Woods; two sons, David M. Woods of Amelia and Ricky G. Mary Frances Worthington, 91, born in Washington, D.C., died Monday, November 12, 2001 at Lucy Corr Village. Widow of Robert Kent Worthington, she is survived by a niece, Elizabeth Falconer and her husband, James C.; and two great-nephews, James C. Jr. and Robert C. Falconer. Edward J. Becker Sr., 72, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Lucille Oliver Becker; his son, Edward J. Becker Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Deborah Pope Roach and her husband, Bill; son, Richard Oliver and his wife, Rose; and his daughter, Vanessa East and her husband, Tye; nine grandchildren. He was retired from the City of Richmond after 30 years of services as a painter. He had also worked for the C&O Railroad for 18 years and had a life-long love for trains. He was a member of the Sandston Moose Lodge No. 1937 and had served his country as a member of the Virginia Army Air National Guard (Richmond Grays). He will be truly missed by his family and many friends. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Marie Jordan Bell, formerly of Powhatan, Va., entered into eternal rest on October 24, 2001. Loving mother of Garland E. Trent Jr., Gwendolyn Trent and Darlene Trent and doting grandmother of Garland Lamont Trent and LaBrone Austin Trent, she is also survived by two sisters, Edmonia Bradley and Estelle Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mary Houston Cecil, 89, of Richmond, widow of Frank Ben Cecil, died Sunday, October 28, 2001. She was preceded in death by two children, Barbara Cecil Latham and Robert "Dick" Cecil. Ernest Cecil Custalow Sr., 67, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, October 29, 2001. He was an American Indian and tribal member of Mattaponi Indian Tribe in King William County, Va. He was a member of Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church, Richmond, where he was a deacon and adult men's Bible class teacher and served on various committees. He was a retired employee of E.I. DuPont, Richmond and a Korean War veteran. He is survived by his wife, Anna Penuel Custalow; one son, Ernest C. Custalow Jr., his wife, Mary and their children, Benjamin, Sarah and Aaron of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Dawn Custalow Griffiths and her husband, Rick of Matthews, N.C.; four brothers, Ralph D. Custalow and A. Kenneth Custalow of the Mattaponi Indian Reservation, Calvin D. Custalow and Malcolm T. Custalow of Richmond; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Ronald G. "Ron" Erichsen, 57, of Ashland, passed away suddenly October 17, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident. Ron was a dedicated employee of WHAN Radio of Ashland. She was born February 23, 1914 in Richmond, the daughter of Andrew Loving and Bessie May Jarvis Vass. She was the widow of Carlton Edward Brock and former wife of Carleton Pernell Hargrove, deceased. Mrs. Hargrove is survived by three sons, Carlton L., Charles A. and Paul E. Brock; four daughters, Constance M. Toone, Gracie L. Lett, Carolyn A. Brock and Virginia L. Greene; two sons-in-law, Douglas Toone and Earl M. Lett Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Faye L. and Sharon T. Brock; one brother, Herbert E. Vass; one sister, Lucille L. Reid; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Lillie Vass; and numerous grandchildren of varying generation.
