Rose Marie Hodges
Rose Marie Bourgea Hodges, 77, of 205 Eastview Drive, Collinsville, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was bon in Everett, Mass., on July 21, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Eva Gastonguay Bourgea. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Lonnie Lee Hodges Jr.; and two brothers, Henry and Arthur Bourgea.
She retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 25 years of service, and she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, Lonnie Lee Hodges of the home; two daughters, Lisa Schafer of Lynchburg and Michelle Lee Hodges of Collinsville; one grandson; three brothers, Father Roger Bourgea and Roland Bourgea, both of Boston, Mass., and Louis Bourgea of Beresfield, N.S.W. Australia; and several nieces and nephews.
A Rosary service will be held at Norris Funeral Services from 6:30-7 p.m. today. The family will receive friends immediately following the service from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Burial Park.

Betty Jane Hopkins
The funeral for Betty Jane Hopkins, 83, of Stuart, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The Rev. Ed Hartman will preside. Burial will follow in the New Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today, and other times at the home of her niece and caretaker, Frances Beasley.
She was born in Patrick County on May 27, 1922, to John William Hopkins and Nancy Jane Craig Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, Howard and Davis Hopkins; and three sisters, Laura Stowe, Elsie Martin and Emma Hill.
She is survived by one brother, Hardin Hopkins of Stoneville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Inez H. Howell
The funeral for Inez Rachel Hutchens Howell, 81, of 1317 Rivermont Heights, Martinsville, who died Sept. 13, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at McKee-Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Patrick County.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services, and other times at the home on Rivermont Heights.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on June 5, 1924, to William E. Hutchens and Nellie Roark Hutchens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nick T. Howell Jr. on March 21, 2005; and two brothers, William Eustace Hutchens and John Franklin Hutchens.
She graduated from Sandy Ridge High School, Sandy Ridge, N.C. and Draughn's Business College in Winston-Salem, N.C. She retired from DuPont.
Surviving are three brothers, Aubrey Hutchens and Clayton Hutchens, both of Spencer and Bruce Hutchens of Sandy Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard A. Hudson
Leonard A. "Flute" Hudson, 59, of 138 Industrial Park Road, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
Hudson was owner and president of Flute's Sheet Metal Inc. of Ridgeway.
A Henry County native, he was born Feb. 8, 1946, and was the son of Madie
Wells Hudson of Martinsville and the late Leonard A. Hudson Sr.
He attended Freedom Baptist Church and was a member of the Ridgeway Sportsmen's Club.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Nancy Griggs Hudson of the home; two sons, Robert L. Fisher of Ridgeway and David M. Fisher of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Joan H. Cockram of Martinsville; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Freedom Baptist Church with the Revs. Carl Keith, Bob Ford, Gary Hughes and Bynum Orr officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services Chapel from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Brandon D. Kissee
Brandon Denell Kissee, 21, of 321 50th St., Newport News, and formerly of Martinsville, died Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1:30 a.m. of injuries from a motorcycle accident.
He was born in Martinsville on April 22, 1984, and was the son of John Author Kissee and Frances Cabiness Kissee of Martinsville. His maternal grandfather, George Cabiness, is deceased.
A resident of Newport News for three years, he was employed through Ralley Staffing of Hampton as a bouncer at the Omni Hotel and also worked at the AMF York Lanes in Newport News. He was a member of Morning Star Holy Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Scharn D. Kissee of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; a sister, Alora D. Kissee of Martinsville; maternal grandmother, Ethelena Cabiness of Axton; Paternal grandmother and grandfather, Viney Kissee and James Kissee of Axton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Morning Star Holy Church with the Rev. Tyler Millner presiding. Burial will follow in Morning Star Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home for a half hour prior to the funeral Friday, and other times at the home of Jasper and Phoebia Carter, 520 Mountain Valley Road, Axton.

Steven K. Saunders
Steven Karlton Saunders, 57, of 7612 Driftwood Drive, Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Martinsville, died Sept. 12, 2005, in Myrtle Beach.
Arrangements are pending and will be announced by McKee-Stone Funeral Services.
Ulus Shockley
The funeral for Ulus "Shock" Shockley, 77, of Collinsville, who died Sept. 10, 2005, was held Tuesday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett. The Rev. Greg Sexton presided.
Burial was in the Grindstaff family cemetery with a flag presentation made by 2nd Lt. Ken Akers and Sgt. David
Smith with the 2174th USAG out of Salem.
Pallbearers were Ryan Cornett, Jon Cornett, Hugh Grindstaff, Scott Grindstaff, Robert Shockley, Darryl Grindstaff and Eric Ferguson.
Dennis R. Whitlow
Dennis Ray Whitlow, 82, of 3955 Dillon's Fork Road, Fieldale, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on Dec. 18, 1922, a son of Belvie Davis Whitlow and Lera Turner Whitlow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lera Cline Phillips; and four brothers, Leonard Whitlow, James Kenneth Whitlow, McGinnis Whitlow and Gurnzie Whitlow.
A World War II Army veteran, Whitlow served in Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe, and was the recipient of a number of honors including the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Pannill Post 42 in Martinsville. He retired from the former Burroughs White Chevrolet as a mechanic after 30 years of service. He was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are his wife, Vera Joyce Whitlow of the home; a daughter, Judy W. Wright of Collinsville; six sisters, Mozelle Plaster of Fieldale, Polly Mason of Collinsville, Nancy Wyatt of
Smith Mountain Lake, Marie Roop of Manassas, Christine Kilby and Dare Kennett, both of Martinsville; five brothers, Kermit Whitlow, Posey Whitlow, Aaron Whitlow and William D. Whitlow, all of Martinsville and Frank Whitlow of Collinsville; and one grandson.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett with Minister Lawrence Harris and the Rev. George Gorman officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will be at Collins Funeral Services from 7-9 p.m. today to receive friends.
Lucille L. Carter
The funeral for Lucille Law Carter, 94, of Axton, who died Sept. 18, 2005, was held Thursday at New Design Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joseph Neal officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Anthony Wade, Markus Nesmith, Jermaine Wade, Terrill Carter, Takondae
Carter and Anthony Fisher.
Arrangements were by Hines Funeral Services.
