ROGERS
Emily Beryl Rogers, 89, of Emporia, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Bloom Retirement Center. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William P. Rogers of Freeman, Va. She is survived by her brother, L. Ray Rogers of Valentines, Va.; and a sister, Hatcher R. Micone of Summit, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Miss Rogers attended Farmville College and taught public school at Lawrenceville, Va. and Franklin, Va. In later years, she was a social worker in Virginia Beach and was the Director of Social Services for Greensville County at her retirement in 1974. Miss Rogers was an active member of the Greensville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Riparian Woman's Club and a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Emporia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Main Street Baptist Church, Emporia, Va. or Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

SOK
Song Sok, 52, of Chesterfield, died Thursday, August 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Yoeun Kim; his children, Sok Simakara, Sok Sisetha, and Sok Jennifer. Mr. Sok was employed by Waverly Textile and Hill-Phoenix Refrigeration. He was a big hearted man who was loved by all. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where prayer services will be held 12 noon on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday, and where the family will receive friends after 12 noon on Saturday.

SWEENEY
Charles Ryland Sweeney passed on at his home in Midlothian on August 3, 2001. He was associated for 30 years with the former Ezekiel and Weilman Company, serving as President. In later years he was also Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mayer China Company of Beaver Falls, Pa. He attended the University of Richmond, but left to become a bomber pilot during World War II in the European theater. During the Korean conflict, he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 0299, Bon Air Methodist Church, and past member of the ACCA Temple and the Virginia Restaurant Association. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Susan G. Sweeney of Alexandria, Va., and Lisa Sauer and her husband John of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Michael C. Sweeney,and Chris Sweeney and his wife Jenny, of Midlothian; four grandsons, Ryland and Christopher Sweeney, and Andrew and Grant Sauer. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163. WRIGHT
Ruth M. Wright, 81, of Richmond, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001. She was the widow of Aubrey L. Wright and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Cynthia Wright; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Art Proffit; four grandchildren, Stuart, Robin, Julie and Heather; brother, Henry Long Sr.; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday in Glendale National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 6767 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA 23235.

ALLEN
McArthur Allen of Richmond departed this life December 7, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

BETZARES
Eva Betzares, age 97, of Richmond, died Saturday, December 8, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; a son, John; and a grandson, Patrick Betzares. She is survived by a son, Gus Betzares and his wife, Cumile; a daughter, Ida Crescioli and her husband, Tito; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

BLEDSOE
Ernest Grant Bledsoe, 66, of Chester, died Friday, December 7, 2001 at his residence. He was a U.S. Army paratrooper serving in the 101st Airborne during the time of the Korean Conflict and at one time served on the Selective Service Board. He was an employee with Carolina Trailways for 32 years and was a member of ATU Local 1493. He is survived by his wife, Anne C. Bledsoe; four sons, Ernest S. Bledsoe (Rosa), Robbie Alan Bledsoe (Nora), Matthew G. "Pete" Bledsoe (Anne Marie) and B. Thomas Bledsoe (Susan); ten grandchildren; brother, Billy Bledsoe; and two sisters, Joyce Smith and Barbara Urban. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

BOOTH
Leona B. Booth, 97, formerly of Burgess and Kilmarnock, died December 5, 2001. Surviving are a granddaughter, Cheryl A. Tewkesbury of Torrington, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services 11 a.m. Monday at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood.

BROWNOLD
Helyn M. Brownold, 96, of Richmond, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Merry and Bill Joel; four grandchildren, Taryn, Dana, Wendy and Holly; five great-grandchildren, Sky, Crystal, Forrest, Peter and Tyler. A private family service is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Richmond Symphony or the Richmond Ballet.

BRYANT
Retired LCdr. Raymond Bryant Jr., USN, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2001 in his home in Currituck, N.C. He was born in Richmond, Va. April 23, 1930 to Raymond Bryant Sr. and Bernice May Bryant. His childhood was spent in Moseley, Va. Later, having moved back to Richmond, he graduated from John Marshall High School where he completed the ROTC program. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 24 years. Mr. Bryant began flying light airplanes at age 15. Flying was his passion throughout his life and he was a corporate pilot and flight instructor. Mr. Bryant is survived by his children, Linda Smith, Susan Russell, Karen Crisp, Paula McGowan, Wanda Bryant and Donald Bryant; his former wife, Polly Armstrong Bryant; his brother, Michael L. Bryant; as well as 14 grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Interment following in the church Cemetery, Moseley, Va. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mount Hermon Baptist Church.

William J. Burlee Jr., age 69, of Tree Hill Farm, died Thursday, December 6, 2001. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane B. Burlee; and his parents, William J. and Margaret H. Burlee. He is survived by his wife, Sharon C. Burlee; and his children, Mary Catherine Ferguson and her husband, Ron, Diane M. Sharpe and her husband, Frank, Margaret H. Hazelgrove and her husband, Bruce, William J. Burlee III and his wife, Lisa, Anne W. Beattie and her husband, Mike, and Matthew D. Burlee; stepchildren, Kimberly C. Brown, Joseph B. Brown IV and his wife, Karen, Michael C. Brown and his wife, Leigh; and 16 grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Interment Mount Calvary. Sylvia Marshburn Davidson, age 55, departed this life December 7, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Billy Ray Marshburn. Survivors include her husband of seven years, Kenneth Davidson; her four sons, Billy Glenn and his wife, Linda, Michael Wayne and his wife, Kim, Ronald Jack and his wife, Debbie, Donald Mack and his wife, Tonda; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Tutt and her husband, Joel, Jeanine Botkin and her husband, Mark; 18 grandchildren; five sisters; one brother; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Services will be held at Liberty Baptist Church on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment Samaria Baptist Church Cemetery.

Julia Atkins Dillon, age 49, of Crewe, died on December 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Hugh; a son, Robert Samuel "Rocky" Smith of Crewe; brothers, Sammy Atkins, Jessie Ray Atkins and Ronald Lee Atkins, all of Amelia and David Garland "Ricky" Atkins of Dinwiddie; sisters, Linda Kay Procise of Richmond, Lois Estelle Emerson of Amelia and Patricia Ann Easter of Chile, S.A.; and one grandson, Xavier I. Smith. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia with burial in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery. DITTMEIER
Frank L. Dittmeier, age 87, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Thursday, December 6, 2001 in St. Louis, Mo.; beloved husband of Betty F. Dittmeier and the late Rosemary C. Dittmeier; loving father of Frank Dittmeier III of Kansas City, Mo. Holly Ann (Rod) Jordan of Jonesboro, Ark., William (Georgia) Dittmeier of Kansas City, Mo. and Robert (Barbara) Dittmeier of Richmond, Va.; dear stepfather of Michael (Joyce) Lavin, Laura (Conrad) Seibel Jr. and Brian (Mary) Lavin of Louisville, Ky.; grandfather of 22 and great-grandfather of three; uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many. Funeral Mass on Monday, December 10, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immacolata. Memorial contributions greatly appreciated to the charity of one's choice. EMORY
Frank N. Emory, age 83, of Valparaiso, Florida, passed away at a local hospital on Monday, December 3, 2001. Frank was a fighter pilot. Born in Seattle, Wash. in 1918, he grew up on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. He entered the Army Air Corps shortly after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He met and married Margaret Ann Carroll in Richmond, Virginia in 1942. Frank flew two tours in P-47s and P-51s during WWII including the D-Day invasion. Frank was assigned to Spokane, Washington after the war, where his son, Steve, was born in 1947. Frank flew F-80s, F-84s, F-86s, and F-100s at bases throughout the U.S., Europe, Turkey and Korea, ultimately as a fighter squadron commander during the 1950s and 1960s. He commanded the "Skoshi Tiger Squadron" for combat test of the F-5 in Viet Nam, flying over 100 combat missions. Frank was assigned as Vice Commander of the 36TFW and Deputy Director of Operations for 17th AF in Germany flying F-4s. Frank was assigned as Vice Commander of the Tactical Air Warfare Center, at Eglin AFB, Fla., where he retired as a Colonel in 1971 after 30 years of dedicated service to his country. He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Emory of Valparaiso; his son, Steve and daughter-in-law, Peggy, from Eden, Utah; as well as his nieces and nephews, including Dr. Tom Carroll and Mike Carroll of Richmond, Virginia; Liane Thomas and Mark Emory in Seattle, Washington. A memorial service will be held at the Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11. Frank will later be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
