Muriel Dietrich Hazelwood, 78, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord July 10, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Hazelwood. She was a member of Lyndale Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday. HODGES
Harold A. Hodges, 60, of Richmond, departed this life Tuesday, July 9, 2002. He is survived by his sister, Missie Schaefer, and her husband, Howard; a niece, Kristin Robertson; and a nephew, Jason Schaefer. Harold was a great American and a good man who was admired by many. He was very active in the Paralyzed Veterans Association. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Friday, 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and where funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Edythe Hudgins Booker Kersey, 90, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J. Meredith Booker and Irvin L. Kersey; and a son, Robert M. Booker. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen B. Urena; son, David S. Booker and his wife, Carolyn and her children and grandchildren; granddaughter, Amelia Meredythe Blume; grandson, Blake Henderson; brother, Floyd W. Hudgins; stepdaughters, Beverly Flowers and Diane Taylor; stepgranddaughters, Molly Taylor and Brooke Taylor Murphy. Mrs. Kersey was a retired tax counselor with H & R Block and camp director with Virginia Baptist, WMU. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, where Mrs. Kersey taught Sunday School for many years. Zadoc Lewis Jr., age 85, of Richmond, Va., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002. He was a retired employee with the State of Virginia. Survivors include his wife, Pearl S. Lewis; son, Marshall W. Lewis and his wife, Nancy, Midlothian, Va.; sister, Irene Page and her husband, Warren, Bath, N.C., Genny Finch, Wilson, N.C.; sister-in-law, Emma Lewis, Wilson, N.C.; grandchildren, Amy Newcomb and her husband, Steve, Cumberland, Va., Samuel C. Lewis, Midlothian, Va., Ashley L. Lewis, Midlothian, Va., Robert Lowe and his wife, Mitzi, Midlothian, Va.; and two great-grandchildren. Welton Ellsworth Long, 85, of Chester, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 in Lucy Corr Village, Chesterfield. A native of Chesterfield, he was the son of the late Richard Hickman and Lona Phillips Long. Mr. Long was an operator at Dupont for forty-one years. He was a member of Chester Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Long; four children, Joan L. Newell of Chester, James W. Long of Gloucester, Stephen C. Long of Ringgold, Ga. and Cheryl A. Battle of Chester; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002 at Chester Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Edward J. Stansfield officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Elwyn Woodley Major, 87, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, died Saturday, July 6, 2002. Born in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Woodley Elizabeth Greenwood and Walter L. Major. After working in Richmond she moved to Jacksonville where she was employed by the Florida National Bank. Survivors include a number of cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond.

Grace E. Osterman, 94, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at the Orange County Nursing Home. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth O. Button of Culpeper and Annette O. Ferreby of Far Hills, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was a resident of the Hermitage Retirement Community in Richmond, Virginia for fifteen years. While there, she was very active in their Creative Workshop - sewing, quilting and creating delightful little ceramic figures and animals for her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert W. Osterman; a twin daughter, Dorinda O. Anderson; and a great-grandson, Christopher E. Ferreby. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Mitchell's Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Westfield, New Jersey at a later date. Mabel Painter Nunnally Overby of Richmond, widow of Ralph Nunnally and George M. Overby, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2002. She is survived by her children, Ronnie Nunnally and his wife, Barbara of Midlothian and Gayle Gambill and her husband, Steven of Lusby, Md.; stepdaughters, Linda Soden of Albany, N.Y., Shelia Harlan of Chester and Sandra Cash of Warsaw, Va. and their families; her grandchildren, Kevin and Leann Nunnally, Erica and David Eubank, Stephen Lane and Thedra Forsburg, Shawn, Jennifer, Jake and Pacy Gambill; one great-granddaughter, Haley Eubank. Mabel was Past Madam State President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and member of FOE No. 882, inducted into the Hall of Fame. Arthur Lee Richardson, age 81, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Mr. Richardson served in the United States Marine Corps and retired from Prince Matchabelli Company. Arthur was a 1948 graduate of the University of Richmond as well as the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice Program and a member of the 1st Class of the Master Gardners of Virginia. Survivors include his wife, Madeline I. Richardson; three daughters, Martha Blair Davis of Virginia Beach, Mary R. Almond and husband, Howard of Hudgins and Melissa Paca of Richmond; two sisters, Hilma Peck and Elizabeth Frye; six grandchildren, Michelle Davis-Nipper, Joyce Crown-Wilkins, Joan Crown Milby, Michael L. Davis, John A. “Bubbie” Crown III and Jody A. Crown; and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2002, 2 p.m. at their home in Redart. James A. Robertson Sr., 85, of Richmond, died July 8, 2002. He was the widower of Helen S. Robertson. He is survived by his son, James A. Mr. Robertson was a member of the American Legion, Glen Allen Masonic Lodge No. 131 and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.
