Levie G. Justis, 96, died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Rappahannock General Hospital, Kilmarnock, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin H. Justis; and son, Alvin H. Justis Jr. Surviving her are a daughter and son-in-law, Marie J. and Henry G. Coghill Jr.; a granddaughter, Michelle C. Forcke. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg. Allie Grey Love, 62, of Kenbridge, Va., died November 10, 2001. She is survived by her mother, Frances Stokes Love; four sisters, Jeanette L. Rowe of Kenbridge, Sue L. Stupaskly of Richmond, Merry Donna L. Emerson and Patricia L. Long, both of Kenbridge. Allie Grey was a certified nursing assistant and a member of the Kenbridge Christian Church. Paul H. Mason Sr., age 79, of Richmond, widower of Eunice T. Mason, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul H. Jr. and Hendree Mason of Mechanicsville; his brother, Thomas Mason of Georgia; also one granddaughter. Mr. Mason was a member of Richmond Lodge No. 10 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and ACCA Temple Shrine and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with Masonic memorial services immediately following. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
McGRUDER
Robert L. McGruder, age 80, of Richmond, died November 10, 2001. He retired in 1981 from the City of Richmond Fire Department after 31 years. He served his country in WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the Army/Air Force in Calcutta, India. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia McGruder; and son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Cheryl McGruder. Memorial services will be held Monday, November 19, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Chapel. NEAL
John Young Neal, 71, of the 4200 block of Wakefiled Court, died suddenly November 13, 2001, in a Cocoa Beach, Fla. hospital. Mr. Neal was a native of Williamson, W.Va., the son of the late James Young Neal and Mary Mason Neal. He was the widower of Clara-Miles Shumadine Neal and was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jim Dyer and his brother, James Young Neal Jr. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. Mr. Neal was a graduate of Maury High School and Virginia military Institute. He received his M.B.A. from Morris Harvey in Charleston, W.Va. He is an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a professional engineer in the States of Virginia and Pennsylvania and began his career in the gas business at Columbia Gas in Charleston, W.Va. and later came to Virginia Power as Director of Gas and Fuel Supply in Richmond. He retired as Director of Special Gas in 1995 after 30 years service from Virginia Natural Gas. During his employment, the need for a larger gas supply in the area became apparent. Mr. Neal propsed the idea for a transmission pipeline and in 1991 did the groundwork for building it. Due to this work, he acquired the nickname "Father of the Pipeline." Mr. Neal is a member of the Rotary Club and the VMI Alumni Association. Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Mason Neal and John Youn Neal of Virginia Beach; a sister, Frances Mason Neal Putt of Richmond, Va.; one niece and five nephews. A church service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2001, at First Presbyterian Chuirch of Norfolk by Dr. J. Shepherd Russell. Burial will be private at Forest Lawn Cemtery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the VMI Alumni Association. H.D. Felicia Ester Nulli, age 90, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001. ORR
George Simpson Orr Jr., 69, a native of Louisville Kentucky, and a resident of Chesterfield and Hopewell for a number of years, died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, after a two year battle with cancer. He was the son of the late George Simpson Sr. and Florence Satori Orr. Mr. Orr held BS and MA degrees from Western Kentucky University. He was an industrial arts teacher, a basketball coach, and went on to become the assistant principal at Hopewell High School, Hopewell, Va. Mr. Orr was the director of vocational education for the State of Virginia Department of Education from 1972-1976, and executive director of the Virginia Advisory Council on Vocational Education from 1982 until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he was active in the Woodland Pond Homeowners' Association, the Lakefront Association, and a founding member of the Woodland Pond Garden Club. He was a Master Gardener. Mr. Orr is survived by his wife, Donna Caywood Orr; a sister, Sherley Orr Coleman and her husband, Everett of Louisville, Ky.; and an uncle, Fred Satori, also of Louisville, Ky. The family will receive friends Friday, November 16, 2001 from 3 to 5 p.m., and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va. Mary Daniel Slayton, 50, a 25-year resident of Richmond, died after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Neva Daniel. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, William H. "Willie" Slayton Jr. Other survivors include her son, Tommy Slayton of Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Dexter Frederick of Richmond; her parents, Dan and Shirlie Daniel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sister, Ann Daniel; her mother-in-law, Louise P. Slayton, of South Boston, Va.; her grandsons, who are her the light of her life and her greatest accomplishment, Mathew Slayton, Tyrese and Chase Frederick and Nathan Scruggs, all of Richmond. Mary was a retired employee of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations of the State of Virginia. Mary's pleasures were time spent with her grandsons and fishing on the Rappahannock River. Too many to list, Mary had a host of friends that showed interest, concern and compassion. They have been a staple in her life for most of her life and she will miss them. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001, at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Mrs. Pearl Viola Smith, 79, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2001. She was the widow of Rev. Ray E.
Smith and is survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins. She had retired from Wachovia Bank after over 40 years of service. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (today) in Riverview Cemetery.

Megan Elizabeth Stidham, 18, of Jordan Parkway, Prince George County, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001 in Rockingham Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va. She was born in Hopewell and had lived her entire life in the Hopewell-Prince George area. Megan graduated from Prince George High School with the class of 2000 and was presently a second year student at James Madison University, Harrisburg, Va. She was a member of the "Jilts" Sorority and Phi Sigma Pi Academic Fraternity. Megan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bernard and Frances Johnson.
