With grace and courage Sherelle Kawana Hill, 19, gently touched the hands of Jesus and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 13, 2001, at MCV Hospitals after a brief illness. Sherelle was a 1999 graduate of Monacan High School and was currently attending Christopher Newport University. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Edward and Denise Hill; a devoted brother and friend, Terence Hill; grandparents, Edward and Rebecca Hill Sr. of Richmond, and Betty Jones of Montpelier; five aunts, Daisy Allen, Vilinda Hill, Angela Kwame, Wanda and Dawn Jones; three uncles, Gregory and Darren Jones, and Osei Kwame; a host of other family members and numerous adoring friends. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. Family will receive friends Thursday, January 18, 2001, at the First Union Baptist Church, 3510 Dill Rd., Richmond, Va., at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Montpelier, Va. HOGAN
Cynthia S. Hogan, 53, of Richmond, passed away January 14, 2001. She is survived by her children, James Murray Jr., Troy Murray Sr., Angela Carter and Jermaine Murray; one sister, Deborah Branch; one brother, Evon Shaw; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m Friday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., followed by interment in Maury Cemetery.

HUBBARD
Elsie Edwards Hubbard of Norfolk, Va., died January 16, 2001, in her home. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Ellen Keeter Edwards and Dolph Edwards. She was the widow of Joseph Barham Hubbard. She was a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church and its Ladies Auxiliary in Norfolk. Mrs. Hubbard was a member and past vice president of the Federation of Garden Clubs of Norfolk. She was also past president of the Janus Club of Khedive Temple, the "My Favorite Things" Doll Club and the Ladies of the Shrine Khedive Temple. Elsie is lovingly survived by her daughters, Nancy H. Hennegan and her husband, John of Huntington, N.Y., Kathryne Barham Hubbard of Norfolk, Patricia H. Liakos of Chesapeake, Va.; her three sisters, Mildred Edwards Wyrick of Norfolk, Jane Edwards Pumphrey of Columbia, S.C., Doris Edwards Smith of Greensboro, N.C.; and her nine grandchildren, John Barham Hennegan, Joseph Bradley Hennegan, Katheryne Mande McLane, Christopher Joseph Liakos, Nancy Brooke Hennegan, Jeffory Branch Liakos, Matthew Hubbard Liakos, Keith Alan Liakos and Robert James Liakos. Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Emporia Cemetery, Emporia, Va., by Reverend Roger A. Gauthier. A short prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening by Reverend Talmadge T. Markham in the Norfolk chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. followed by family visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the Dare County EMS, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, N.C. 27954 or to the Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o Reverend Roger A. JAMES
George Watson James III, M.D., 82, died January 15, 2001 following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Frances Van Doren James; three children, Frances Preston Cave, George Watson James IV, M.D., and William Herndon James and his wife, Pamela Owen James; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Reinhardt Gravatt, William Maury Cave, Christopher Boyd Cave, Jennifer Fontaine James, Jonathan Southall Cave, Brooke Van Doren James, Mason Southall James and Owen Michael James; and one great-granddaughter, Preston Reinhardt Gravatt, all of Richmond, Va. Dr. James was born in Richmond and graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School in 1936, subsequently attending Washington & Lee University, graduating magna cum laude in 1940. He entered the MCV School of Medicine, graduating in 1943 and undertook internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass., returning to Richmond to complete his residency and thereafter entering the Army Medical Corps and U.S. Public Health Service through June of 1949. He joined the faculty at MCV in 1949 as a Markle Scholar and continued there over the next 50 years in research, teaching and clinical practice. He was appointed professor of medicine in 1984 and professor of medicine emeritus in 1993. For many years he was chairman of the Division of Hematology which he helped establish. He was a member of the Commonwealth Club and Willow Oaks Country Club. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at his residence. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bon Air. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest View Rescue Squad.

JOHNSON
Mr. J. Marion Johnson, 87, of Richmond, passed away on January 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Carter Johnson; and his cousin, Meredith Dixon of Vernon Hill, Va. Mr. Johnson was a past member of Kiwanis, a WWII Navy veteran and was a retired detective with the Richmond Police Department with 37 and a half years of service. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, where he was a volunteer, or the Forest Hill Presbyterian Church's Memorial Fund, where he was a longtime member, past deacon and elder.

JOHNSON
Paige W. Johnson, age 68, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital. He was a native of Parksley, Va. Mr. Johnson was a retired employee with the City Hall in Richmond and a veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by several cousins, Irene Gammon of Richmond, Carol Gammon Rock of Manassas and Donna Gammon Sloan of Henderson, Ky.; and half brother, Revel Penn Kelley of Mechanicsville. Funeral will be held Thursday, January 18, 2001, at 1 p.m. in Liberty Cemetery, Parksley, Va. Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home, Parksley, Va.

JORDAN
Vincent Jordan of Richmond entered eternal rest January 16, 2001. Cherishing his memory are his wife, Cynthia Squire-Jordan; seven children, Tonya, Lakeisha, Kim, Tanisha, Jonisha, Giselle, and Vincent; several grandchildren, three sisters, Brenda J. Cheeks, Irene Jordan, Maria J. Burrell (Lloyd); four brothers, Clint, Anderson, Nathaniel, and Gregory (Monique) Jordan; one aunt, two uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, one devoted, Leroy Kermit Brown; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Squire Sr.; other relatives and friends. A eulogistic service will be conducted Friday 1 p.m. at the All Faiths Chapel of the A.D. Price Funeral Establishment, 212 E. Leigh St. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. LAW
Thomas Stamps "T.S." Law Jr., 80, of 768 King's Way Road, Martinsville, died January 15, 2001 at Memorial Hospital. He was born May 12, 1920 in Henry County, to the late Thomas Stamps Law Sr. and the late Anna Eliza Hairfield Law. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Finney Law of the home; two daughters, Anna Sue Law Collins, Richmond, and Mary Beth Law Glass, Glen Allen, Va.; two sons, Thomas Stamps Law III, Martinsville, and James Robert Law, Disputanta, Va.; two brothers, Joseph M. Law, Church Road, Va., and William David Law, Staunton, Va.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Axton, Va., with the Rev. Dale Darley and the Rev. Suzanne Schulz Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His body will remain at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Md. 20814. Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Services.

MARTENS
Herbert Ralston Martens departed this life Tuesday, January 16, 2001. He was the son of the late Herbert and Dr. Florence Martens of New York and was educated at Peekskill Academy and Bucknell University. Mr. Martens was an advertising and public relations executive in New Jersey before retiring to Virginia in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Katharyn S. Martens; one son, Herbert R. Martens Jr., Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Pamela M. Gilmartin, Southampton, N.Y., Barbara M. Brown, Atlanta, Ga., and Robin M. Huss, Los Angeles, Calif.; and eight grandchildren, Shannan Gilmartin, Katharyn Gilmartin, Courtney Gilmartin, Matthew Gilmartin, Katharyn B. Brown, Jonathan Brown, Jennifer Huss and Tyler Huss. He was a member of Manakin Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Manakin Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Tree of Lights Endowment Fund, Manakin Episcopal Church, 985 Huguenot Trail, Midlothian, Va. 23113.

McGEHEE
Mrs. Lois O. McGehee, 98, of Diamondhead, Miss., died Monday, January 15, 2001 in Bay St. Louis, Miss. She was a native of Conway, N.C. and a former long time resident of Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lois Frances-Stoltz; parents, John and Lelia Garris Carr; brother, John Lee Carr; and sister, Inez Parrish. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Betty Marino of Diamondhead, Miss.; sister, Jean Anderson, Davis, Calif.; seven grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. MEISEL
Gay B. Meisel, 95, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001. She was the widow of Albin L. Meisel. She is survived by her children, Albin L. Meisel Jr. and his wife, Brooke, and William Philip Meisel and his wife, Betty; seven grandchildren, Beth, Albin III, Alice, Russell, Michael, Rodney and Billy Meisel; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Leslie and Ava. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary St. Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226.

MESSER
William A. Messer, 76, went home to be with the Lord January 15, 2001. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Madge Peake Messer; daughters, Sharon R. Williams and Susan M. Craig; sons, Danny A. and Ray W. Messer; and grandson, Jay Miller. Also surviving are 12 other grandchildren, fifteen and one-half great-grandchildren, sons and daughters-in-law, many relatives, friends, and a host of others to whom he was also known as "Dad" or "Grand-dad". The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Mr. Messer will lie in state at Evangel Assembly of God, 2013 Broad Rock Blvd., from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday with funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

MORGAN
Leonard Stewart Morgan Sr., 89, of Richmond, passed away January 16, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Wilkins Morgan; and two daughters, Nancy M. Morgan and Bonnie Kay Morgan. He is survived by his children, Jean M. Fowlkes, Leonard S. Morgan Jr., James P. Morgan and Aubrey L. Morgan; brothers, William C. Morgan and K.B. Morgan; sisters, M. Ruth Kite and Inez Jones Bell; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Clover Hill Baptist Church, 3100 Courthouse Rd. Interment Branches Baptist Church Cemetery. PATTERSON
Luise Wyatt Patterson died on January 17, 2001. She was born on July 24, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, Va., the daughter of the late Ethel and A. Jackson Wyatt. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Patterson Jr.; three children, India P. Gregory, Robert H. Patterson III and Margaret P. Mansfield, all of Richmond; six grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Shotwell; and four brothers, Benjamin Wyatt, Jack H. Wyatt, Bill H. Wyatt and Mac H. Wyatt. Mrs. Patterson attended Madison College and was a member of The Woman's Club, the Garden Club of Goochland, the Woman's Board of the Virginia Home for Boys, and the Chapel Guild of the University of Richmond. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, January 19, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd., in Goochland County. Interment in the church cemetery. PHILLIPS
Lois Ann Phillips, age 60, died January 14, 2001. She is survived by her sons, G. Carrington Phillips and Peter C. Phillips; two daughters-in-law, Lisa and Samantha; and grandchildren, Austin, Grant and Parker. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, at her home.

RAINEY
George (Wilbur) Rainey, 76, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ethel G. Rainey; two daughters, Sherry Barrett and Shirley Campbell; two brothers, Robert and Emmett (Junie) Rainey; one sister, Alice McDaniel; and several grandchildren. Mr. Rainey was retired from Oakwood Cemetery, city of Richmond. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at Washington Memorial Park. Nelsen Funeral Home assisting with the arrangements.

RANDALL
Mrs. Bernice Squire Randall, 97, the widow of Henry Denison Randall, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, after a long illness. She was the daughter of Charles David and Eleanor Rightmyre Squire of Vaughn, N.C., the last surviving of their five daughters and two sons. She leaves three nieces, Eleanor Whitehead Straffin, Jane Willcoxon Councill and Nancy Squire Schroeder; two nephews, John Weir Willcoxon III and Charles Clifton Squire; and 22 great-nieces and nephews. Three nephews predeceased her, Edwin Hill Whitehead Jr., Charles William Whitehead and Claude Montreville Whitehead Jr. The Randalls were married in Richmond in 1941, but lived mostly in Falls Church, Va., while he worked in the Office of the Director of Defense in the Pentagon. She was a long-term volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. After he took early retirement, they traveled extensively in North and South America and Europe. Avid sailors, they raced and cruised Chesapeake Bay in their sailboat "The Sabrina" and were active members of the Alberg 30 Association until his death in 1998. Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
