GLOVER
Mrs. June Rose Morgan Glover, 69, of South Boston, Va., died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at her home. She was born in La Crosse, Va. on November 15, 1931, the daughter of Mr. Charles Henry Morgan and Mrs. Mattie Lou Sizemore Morgan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the choir. Mrs. Glover is survived by her husband, Armstead Boyd (Joe) Glover Jr.; one daughter, Susan Lynn Glover of Williamsburg; one son and his wife, Armstead Boyd Glover III and Teresa of Amelia; two grandsons, Bradley Shelton Glover and Brian Boyd Glover, both of Amelia; one sister, Margaret Morgan Johnson of Greensboro, N.C.; 12 nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Glover will be held Tuesday, February 27 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee and the Rev. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Monday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at her home, 1308 Friend Ave., South Boston. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to please consider the Halifax Regional Hospice or the Patrick Henry Boys Home. Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home, 1603 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, Va. 24592.

GOWDY
Cellissa N. Gowdy, 63, of Richmond, formerly of New Haven, Conn., passed away February 21, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Gowdy; three children, Jay W. Gowdy, Cellissa B. Gowdy and William H. Gowdy; one brother, Joseph Norcross; one sister, Paula Lobuono; and two grandchildren, Elena Rachael Gowdy and Maria Louisa Gowdy. Mrs. Gowdy received a PhD in biophysics from Yale University in 1966. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial Mass will take place 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Bridget's Catholic Church. Interment 12:30 p.m. Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

GRINSTEAD
James T. Grinstead, 80, of Chesterfield, died February 25, 2001. He was the widower of Margaret Katherine Grinstead. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Jamie Rogers; daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Steve Tedder; grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine and Lacey Tedder; sister, Nancy Jane Grinstead; brother, Martin Grinstead. Mr. Grinstead was a combat veteran, serving with the 8th Air Force, 385th Bomb Group during WWII. He was also a life member of Masonic Lodge #74 in Elkton, Va. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), and where his funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216 or charity of choice.

HAMILTON
Jerry R. Hamilton, 65, born October 15, 1935, passed away February 24, 2001 after losing his battle with A.L.S. or Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie L. Hamilton; one daughter, Debra L. Sanders; son-in-law, William "Bucky" Sanders; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Daniel Sanders; one sister, Shirley Ann McBride and husband, Mac; two brothers, Donald E. Hamilton and Jean and Bobby W. and "Butch" Hamilton; one brother-in-law, Michael G. Goodwin and wife, Dee Dee; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jerry was retired operations manager for KBS Incorporated for 15 years. Jerry felt they all were his family. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry St., Ashland, Va. HARRIS
George T. Harris, 90, of Glen Allen, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001. He is survived by two nephews, Claude B. and Billy T. Harris; and a niece, Brenda Berry. Mr. Harris was a WWII Army veteran and was also retired from Virginia Power after more than 40 years of service. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Rescue Squad.

HINER
Mary Margaret Carter Hiner, of Richmond, widow of Kenneth Robert Hiner, died Friday, February 23, 2001. She was born in Halifax, Va., February 1, 1914, the daughter of the late Florence Cosby Carter and James F. Carter. Mrs. Hiner graduated from State Teachers College, now Longwood, and taught school in Fauquier County. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and a member of the Altar Guild, a member of the Ginter Park Woman's Club, Chancellor Wythe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a retired employee of Westminster-Canterbury. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Robert Hiner Jr. of Sarasota, Fla. and James William Hiner of Richmond; one grandson, James William Hiner Jr. and two great-grandsons, Brandon Russell Hiner and William Logan Hiner, all of Richmond. Mrs. Hiner is also survived by a brother, James F. Carter Jr. of Hampton, Va. and several nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 26 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3602 Hawthorne Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23227.

JOHNSON
Herbert C. Johnson, 72, of Chesterfield, passed away February 24, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean S. Johnson and is survived by his son, Kenneth L. Johnson; sister, Brenda Tressler and her husband, Bill; granddaughters, Phaedra Johnson and Natasha J. Long and her husband, Chad; and niece, Michelle Tressler. Mr. Johnson retired from C&P Telephone after 30 years of service. He was a longtime fan and player of baseball and avid follower of fast pitch softball. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

KELLY
L. William Kelly Jr., M.D., died late February 22, 2001 in Richmond, Virginia (after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma). He was born February 7, 1940 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Marion High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1962 and his medical degree from the University's School of Medicine in l966. He entered the US Army assigned as a house staff officer to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and subsequently qualified for the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam with the 1st of the 508, Third Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division. After his tour of service, he returned to Charlottesville, where he completed his Dermatology Residency at the University of Virginia Hospital in 1971. Later that year he joined what was to become Dermatology Associates of Virginia and was a practicing physician until his retirement in June of 2000. Dr. Kelly was an attending physician at Chippenham, Johnston-Willis, St. Mary's, Henrico Doctors', John Randolph, and Richmond Memorial Hospitals and Southside Medical Center. He was a past president of both the Manchester Medical Society and the Virginia Dermatological Society and was the Secretary of the Richmond Dermatological Society. He was a member of the Richmond Dermatological Society, the Virginia Dermatological Society, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Masters of Dermatology, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia, and the AMA. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Country Club of Virginia, and the Virginia Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Association. Dr. Kelly was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. Dr. Kelly was predeceased by his son, Robert Ellis Kelly; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard William Kelly Sr. In addition to his wife of 39 years, Julia Ellis Kelly, he is survived by his sons, L. William Kelly III and his wife, Katherine and grandson, Harper Lee Kelly, and Timothy Porter Kelly who lives at Good Neighbor Village, all of Richmond; his daughter, Elizabeth Kelly Baicy, her husband, John and grandson, Joseph William Baicy of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his brother, Robert Martin Kelly, his wife, Barbara of High Point, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Frances Stephens Ellis of Westminster-Canterbury, Richmond; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Ellis Young; her husband, Walter K. of Doylestown, Pa.; his niece, Cristie Good of Bethesda, Md.; and nephews, Michael Kelly of High Point, N.C., Stuart Young and Lane Young of Doylestown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dr. Kelly's name to the Cawley Fund of the UVA Department of Dermatology in care of the Medical Alumni Association, Box 800776, Charlottesville, Va. 22908 or to Good Neighbor Village, Inc., Box 17782, Richmond, Virginia 23226. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Cary Street Road. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

KILBOURN
Margaret Baker Kilbourn, 98, of Chesterfield, formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the home of her daughter. She was born in Richmond, June 10, 1902, the daughter of Dora and Fred Baker and was a member of Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church for 86 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Kilbourn; a son, Donald Kilbourn; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by a son and his wife, Herbert and Faye Kilbourn of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Jane K. and Fred Conti of Chesterfield; six devoted granddaughters, Debbie Rice of Mechanicsville, Judy Conti of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kathy Conti, Mary Jane Taylor and Bonnie Conti, all of Chesterfield and Laura McKinney of Roanoke; two grandsons and seven great-grandchildren; also two special nephews. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

LOHR
Irva L. Lohr, 88, of Aroda, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 in the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. Born October 5, 1912 in Madison Co., she was the daughter of the late Haywood M. and Martha Tucker Lohr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey (Bub) L. Lohr. Mrs. Lohr was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and a retired school bus driver for the Madison County School system. Survivors include two sons, Warren G. and his wife, Audrey Lohr of Aroda, C. Michael and his wife, Lois Lohr of Mechanicsville. Four grandchildren, Ronald Lohr of Raleigh, N.C., Gregory Lohr of Charlottesville, Christopher Lohr of Knoxville, Tenn. and Karen Lohr Rosser of Mechanicsville; and also nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Virgie Lohr; and three brothers, Welford, Henry and Calvin Lohr. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the Good Hope Baptist Church, Radiant, Va., with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dewey Powell will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 868, Madison, Va. 22727. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Rt. 230 West Madison, Va.

MABE
Clara L. Davis Mabe, age 83, of Chesterfield, formerly of Hopewell, widow of Charles E. Davis and Charles L. Mabe, died Saturday, February 24, 2001. She is survived by daughter, Patricia A. Davis; son-in-law, Kevin; three grandchildren, Tamara Shepherd, Christian Shepherd and Nicole Smith; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Riddle of Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mabe was a member of Hopewell Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gould Funeral Home, Hopewell, where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday by the Reverend William Hayhurst. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery.

MERZ
Lilly E. Merz nee Carl of Varina died Friday, February 23, 2001. She was born in Coblenz, Germany on June 14, 1905, moved to Richmond, Va. with her husband, Albert H. Merz in 1945. As a long time resident, she gave generously to various charities, including St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sandston, where she was a member for many years. She was an active member in the Garden Club where her artistic talents for design and color were enjoyed by many. She was a charter member of the Battlefield Homemaker's Club, where she held the office of treasurer for many years. Lilly had great compassion for her friends, family and those less fortunate than she and was always ready to lend her support when needed. In remembrance for those who knew her, she was a person of pure heart and outspoken honesty. She will be missed. Mrs. Merz was the widow of Albert H. Merz and is survived by a sister, Thea Carl Brinkmann; a brother-in-law, Ernst H. Merz; her nephews, George W. Carl, A. Dieter Merz, Erich A. Brinkmann; her nieces, Christa Merz Hubbard and Ingrid Brinkmann Makocy; several grandnephews, grandnieces and a large loving family. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 So. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Oakleys Lane. Entombment Washington Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

MILLER
Grace Tarris Miller, 81, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Miller; and her son, Robert W. Miller. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Riffe, Arlene Miller, and Darlene Miller; a sister, Bethel Bell; a devoted sister-in-law, Bobbie Dean Fowler of El Reno, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

MURPHY
Departed this life February 23, 2001, Mrs. Bernice Murphy of 3700 Angela Drive. She is survived by one son, Joseph H. Wynn; seven grandchildren, among them, Phyliss Hardy; 30 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Wynn and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. where funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. Rev. Edward Coley Jr. officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Ms. Diane Parks, of 9953 Friend Street, Richmond, entered eternal rest Friday, February 23, 2001 at Ruxton Health and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, Va. PARKS
Mary Adeleine Scott Parks, 89, died February 24, 2001 at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington, Va. She was born in Norfolk, Va. August 5, 1911, the daughter of Stanley Scott and Adeleine Edmundstone Lapsley. While she was a small child her family returned to Eastville in Northampton Co., Va., where her father practiced law. She graduated from Eastville High School in 1929. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Eastville. She attended Stuart Hall School in Staunton and Mary Baldwin College. She lived and worked in Washington, D.C. from 1931 to 1941. In the summer of 1941, she was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and remained there until she retired in August of 1974. For 25 years of her years at Newport News, she was secretary to the personnel manager. She married Walter Norris Parks in December of 1950. She was a member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society, the S.P.C.A. of the Eastern Shore, and a number of humane societies. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Elizabeth Montgomery Scott. She is survived by her husband and a number of cousins. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, Yeocomico Episcopal Church Cemetery, Tucker Hill, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to S.P.C.A. of Eastern Shore, Onley, Va. 23418 or Boys' Home, Inc., 306 Boys' Home Rd., Covington, Va. 24426-5599.
