Jackson, Julia Lawyer

Julia Lawyer Jackson, 84, 163 Fredrick Street, Danville, Va. died Monday, October 22, 2001 at the Roman Eagle Nursing Home.

Born November 6, 1917 in Rimini, South Carolina, she was the daughter of James Lawyer and Julia Davis Lawyer. She was married to Leroy Jackson who predeceased her. Mrs. Jackson was a retired Registered Nurse from the Temple University Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include: One Daughter; Carrie Brown of Danville, Five Grandchildren, Eleven Great Grandchildren, and Four Great Great Grandchildren. In addition there is a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 163 Fredrick Street, Danville, (Formerly known as Grant Street Extention )

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jackson will be conducted Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 11am at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Minister Sampson Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the Highland Burial Park Cemetery.

Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Kaminski, Virginia M. "Ginnie"

A graveside service for Virginia Marilyn "Ginny" Kaminski, 58, of Lake of the Woods in Orange County will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kaminski died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her home.

She was a secretary for the superintendent of the National Park Service at Chatham. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Spotsylvania County, American Legion Post 320 Spotsylvania Ladies Auxiliary and Lake of the Woods Players Club.

Survivors include two sons, James R. Jett of Spotsylvania and Ronald J. Petrie of Miller Place, N.Y.; and one stepson, Wade Thomas Kaminski of St. Charles, Mo.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to American Legion Post 320, Box 51, Spotsylvania, Va. 22553; or Lake of the Woods Rescue Squad, 104 Lakeview Parkway, Locust Grove, Va. 22508.

Kaminski, Ronald Eugene

A graveside service for Ronald Eugene Kaminski, 60, of Lake of the Woods in Orange County will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Kaminski died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his home.

He was the owner of Site Work of Virginia Construction Co. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 320 of Spotsylvania County and an honorary member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Survivors include one son, Wade Thomas Kaminski of St. Charles, Mo.; two stepsons, James R. Jett of Spotsylvania and Ronald J. Petrie of Miller Place, N.Y.; two sisters, Joan Rucker of Jonesburg, Mo., and Mary Ann McCann of Warrenton, Mo.; and two brothers, Robert Kaminski of Camdenton, Mo., and Kenneth Kaminski of Jonesburg, Mo.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.

Radcliffe, Jr., Grover Miles

Grover Miles 'œTiny' Radcliffe Jr., 78, of Dinwiddie died Thursday, May 3, 2001. He was the son of the late Grover Miles Sr. and Thelma Guida Bennett Radcliffe and step-son of the late Annie Radcliffe. He was an elder of the Edgehill Church of Christ and retired as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor for the Virginia Operating Engineers Local 147 after fifty-three years of service.

Mr. Radcliffe is survived by his wife Virginia Butler Radcliffe, children, Grover Miles Radcliffe III and wife Josie of Chesapeake, Joseph Linwood Radcliffe and wife Marlene of Chesapeake, Colleen Radcliffe Wray of Hopewell, James Robert Radcliffe and wife Jeri Lynn of Dinwiddie, Tammy Snow Fry and husband Michael of Petersburg, Douglas Edward Radcliffe and wife Linda of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Drew, Brett, Becki, Shannon, Ashly, Matthew, Teri, Sammy, Mike, Miles; one great grandson; brothers and sisters also survive him, Mary Emma Goodwin of Colonial Heights, Joseph F. Radcliffe of Texas, Virginia M. Auders of Dinwiddie, Betty J. Finney of Chesapeake, Donald A. Radcliffe of Colonial Heights, John J. Radcliffe of Chesterfield, and James P. Radcliffe of Colonial Heights. Mr. Radcliffe was predeceased by his son Charlie Brown Radcliffe, and a brother and sisters Edwin D. Radcliffe, Evelyn 'BOO' Radcliffe and Nancy R. Rowland.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 7, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dinwiddie Church of Christ, 25609 Grant Avenue, Petersburg. Mr. Jimmy Moores will officiate assisted by Mr. Bill Voss and Mr. Eddie Hendrix. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 9:00 p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Flowers are welcome, or contributions can be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Rd. Colonial Heights VA 23834.

Raines, James Milton

James Milton Raines, 88, of Spotsylvania County, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He had retired from the FMC plant after 41 years of work.

Mr. Raines was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and former member of Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge No. 4.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora M. Raines; two daughters, Barbara Anne Pritchett of Spotsylvania and Joyice Lee Peterson of Lynchburg; a stepson, James Eure of Spotsylvania; a sister, Frances H. Langridge of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Edgar G. Raines and George G. Raines, both of Spotsylvania; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

The Rev. James Eure will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Goshen Baptist Church Building Fund, 9804 Gordon Road, Spotsylvania, Va. 22553.

Abbitt, Atwood Graves

NORFOLK - Atwood Graves Abbitt, 95, a long time resident of Norfolk, went to be with her Lord at her daughter's home on Sat., Nov. 8, 2003 in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Atwood, a committed Christian, educator, teacher, and speaker led a full and active life until her health forced her to give up her activities in Norfolk and move to Florida. Born in Gloucester, Va., she spent most of her childhood and adult life in Norfolk, graduating from Maury High School in 1925. Atwood graduated from Mary Washington College and the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. She did her graduate work in guidance and counseling at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg and became a dedicated teacher and counselor of children in the Norfolk Public Schools, retiring from Blair Junior High School where she had served as counselor for 25 years. In 1974, The Hampton Roads Personnel and Guidance Association honored her as the 'Outstanding Counselor of the Year'.

Atwood was a member of Larchmont Baptist Church and became the first woman deacon upon the death of her husband, Matt White Abbitt. She was subsequently elected head deacon and served in the position for many years. In 1991, she was awarded the Norfolk Baptist Association 'Layperson of the Year'.

Other civic activities include; President of the Norfolk Junior and Senior Women's Club, President of the Joie d Vivre, President of Alpha Delta Kappa, President of the P.E.O., member of the Mayor's Youth Council, and President of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Atwood Brewton and her husband, Edward Brewton, CAPT USN (ret.); a sister, Mae Graves Turner of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Guy Abbitt, Holly Vanderdonck, John Abbitt, Atwood 'Betsy' Watts, and Edward Brewton, Jr.; and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Matt W. Abbitt, Jr. and a grandson, Glenn F. Brewton II.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rev. John C. Dean. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home today, Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m. for visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Larchmont Baptist Church, 1127 Surrey Cres., Norfolk, VA 23508.

Babcock, Burk Lee

Burk Lee Babcock, 73, of Chester, died Saturday, January 15, 2005. Mr. Babcock, a life long resident of Dutch Gap, was the son of the late Branch and Bertha Bucher Babcock, a US Air Force and Army veteran, and a retired government computer technician. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints, Chesterfield Ward. Mr. Babcock was preceded in death by a brother, Orel Babcock and a sister, Lorine Belcher.

Mr. Babcock is survived his wife, Barbara Babcock; a son, David Babcock of Chester; three daughters, Teresa Keeter and husband Charles of Midlothian, Rose Oliver and husband Richard of Chester, and Kathy Thompson and husband Stephen of Chesterfield; seven grandchildren, Travis, April, Heather, Melissa, Michael, Brittany, and Kelly; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral will take place at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Under the direction of Bishop Moss, Brother Chris Keeter will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 17, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Eastman, Kathaleen Carter

Kathaleen "Kathy" Carter Eastman, 77, of Colonial Heights died Monday May 5, 2003 at her residence. A native of Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William and Rena French Carter. Mrs. Eastman was a member of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville Va. and was retired from Civil Service. She is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Eastman, a son, Barry L. Phillips Sr. and wife Billye of Prince George Va. and a daughter Janice Kay Phillips of Columbus Ohio, grandchildren, Belynda Randolph, Bonita Phillips, and Barry L. Phillips II, two grandchildren in-law, Alan Randolph and Erika Phillips, and great grandchildren Zachary Randolph and James C. Randolph. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 - 7 p.m. with a service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights with the Rev. Graham Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Louisville Kentucky on Friday May 9, 2003. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at Heady Arch L. & Son Funeral Directors 8519 Preston Hwy Louisville Ky. 40219
