Eastman, Eric Charles

Eric Charles Eastman, 36, of Colonial Heights died Thursday, July 19, 2001. He served his country during operation desert storm with the U. S. Army, 805th MP Company. Mr. Eastman was a recipient of the Purpleheart, Bronzestar and the Liberation of Kuwait medals. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. For many years he was the proprietor of Hometown Video Store in Colonial Heights. He was preceded in death by his father William Charles Eastman.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley F. Eastman and a sister Tamara J. Eastman both of Chester; brothers and sister-in-law, William D. and Pamela J. Eastman of Flowermound, TX and Michael Eastman of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan; a niece, Addison R. Eastman of Flowermound, TX and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Carl Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Talley, Aline Ennis

NORFOLK - Aline Ennis Talley, 92, of Lens Ave., passed away on Sat., Sept. 4, 2004 in a local hospital. She was a former manager of the Smith & Welton Tea Room, also worked at L. B. Rocke Jewelry Store, and retired as a cosmetician with Peoples Drug Store. Born in Benson, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mary Pleasant Ennis and Nady Ennis, and was the widow of John Iven Talley.

Mrs. Talley was a member of Fairmont Park United Methodist Church, was the past Worthy Matron of Old Dominion Chapter No. 100, Order of Eastern Star, and the Al Kena Temple No. 124, Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna T. Dana and her husband, David of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mildred E. Meisel of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Jerry Ennis of Benson, N.C.; two grandsons, William Lawrence Dana of Washington, D.C. and Christopher David Dana of Virginia Beach; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 7, 2004 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. William Bruner and Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Jackson, Charles Edward

Charles Edward Jackson, 77, of Chester, died Saturday, August 10, 2002 in McGuire V.A. Medical Center.

He was born in Newport News, VA, son of the late Dwight L. and Clara Apperson Jackson, a Navy veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.

He was a retired District Manager for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of Chester United Methodist Church, American Legion, V.F.W. Post 50.

He was Past Master of Chester Masonic Lodge #94, Scottish Rite, Acca Temple Shrine, Past Patron of Order of the Eastern Star #121, Past Royal Patron of Order of the Amaranth #10 and Order of the Odd Fellows #14.

He is survived by his wife, Madelyn B. Jackson; a son, John D. Jackson and his wife Sylvia of Milford, DE; a step-daughter, Linda Inman and her husband Richard of Chester; a step-son, Michael McNulty of Chester; a grandson, Dwight Jackson of California; a brother, Melvin R. Jackson and his wife Elyria of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Baker Jackson.

The family will receive friends Monday 7-8:30 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. in Chester United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Edward Leonard will officiate.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford, DE.

Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Ingram, Catherine Bailey

Catherine Bailey Ingram, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday August 2, 2001.

Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Leonidas Edgar and Gladys Lee Bailey.

Mrs. Ingram was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Williams and Doris Blankinship, four brothers, Alton Bailey, Douglas Bailey, Gene Bailey and William Bailey.

A Beloved wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of fifty years, George Thomas Ingram Sr.; one daughter Victoria Ingram Hubert and husband Robert of Macon Georgia.

Sons George (Buster) Ingram Jr. and wife Kay, Robert Ingram and wife Rickie, all of Petersburg, Johnnie Ingram and wife Terry, Kevin Ingram and wife Debbie, Kenny Ingram and wife Jo, all of Chester, Ronnie Ingram and wife Liz of Colonial Heights.

Three sisters Barbara Ozmore, Lois Nunnally both of Petersburg and Beulah Wells of Prince George.

She also leaves behind fourteen pricious grandchildren and three great- grandchildren to cherish her memory.

A funeral service will be held on Monday August 6, 2001 at 1:30 PM in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights with the Rev Marshall O. Bonds officiating.

Entombment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7-8:30 PM at the funeral home.

Hackney, Jo Melchor

NORFOLK - Jo Melchor Hackney, 73, of the 5700 block of Shenandoah Ave., passed away peacefully on Fri., March 14, 2003 in her residence surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Born on Feb. 20, 1930 in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Burton DeBerry Melchor and Margaret Wood Melchor.

Mrs. Hackney graduated from Maury High School, Class of 1948 and attended Briarcliff College in Briarciff Manor, N.Y. She was a life long member of First Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Elizabeth River Woman's Club, Lakewood Garden Club, and the Lakewood Civic Association.

Her family was the center of her life. Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, John H. Hackney, Jr.; a daughter, Dee Hackney Streeter; a son, John H. Hackney III; a granddaughter, who was the joy of her life, Cara Paige Oxenham; and granddaughters, Jennifer Paige Hackney and Amanda Jo Hackney. She was preceded in death by her brother, Burton DeBerry Melchor III.

The family would like to thank the medical community for their skilled care and compassion throughout Jo's treatment. The family would also wish to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark Skees, Dr. Michael Ryan, Anna Freeman, and Ann Phillips.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tues., March 18, 2003 in First Lutheran Church of Norfolk by Pastor Jay Gamelin. Following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to a remembrance of Jo's life at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Melchor Window Fund of First Lutheran Church, 1301 Colley Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23517 or the charity of the donor's choice. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Gaffney, David A.

CWO4, U.S. Army (Ret) David A. Gaffney, 66, of Chester died Monday, January 27, 2003 at Hunter-Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond.

A native of Groveland, Florida, he was the son of the late Gordon G. and Fannie Duke Gaffney.

Mr. Gaffney was employed by the Judge Advocate General Corp, for over 27 years as a legal administrative assistant.

He was a member of the American Bar Association, American Association of Legal Administrators and the Retired Military Officers Association at Fort Lee, and was very active at the Fort Lee Memorial Chapel.

He is survived by his wife Hildegard Gaffney, a daughter and son-in-law, Daniela S. and Eric Johnson of Clinton, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, Markus T. B. and Sarah Gaffney of Roswell, GA; three grandchildren, Micah, Samantha and Keegan Gaffney; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald G. and Dorothy Gaffney of Christiansburg, VA; two sisters and brother-in-law, Gerry Howard of Kissismee, FL and Romonia and Roy Pierce of Tampa, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 31, 2003 at 4:00 P.M. at Fort Lee Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Col. (Ret) Wilkerson officiating.

Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery with full honors at a later date to be announced.

Services are being provided by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Billy Graham Crusade, the Parkinson Research Foundation, 1501 North West 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136 or the American Red Cross, Southside Chapter, 3297 Crater Rd Petersburg 23805.
