Annie R. Snider
Annie Elizabeth Richardson Snider, 92, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Robert Haley and the Rev. Denny Burnette, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18 at Woodward Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her son, John L. Snider Jr. and his wife, Lucie, of Louisa; two daughters, Bettie S. Martin and her husband, Wayne, of Haymarket, and Faye Deisher and her husband, Lewis, of Louisa; a sister, Louise R. Perkins; a brother, H. Early Richardson of Louisa; her grandchildren, John L. Snider III of Richmond, Ryan S. Martin of Charlottesville and Gabriel P. Deisher of Louisa; her great-grandson, John L. Snider IV of Richmond; her sisters-in-law, Martha S. Richardson and Joyce P. Richardson of Louisa, and Mary E. Richardson of Whiting, New Jersey; and a number of devoted friends and relatives.
Mrs. Snider was the daughter of the late Bettie Sue and James Edward Richardson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lilbourn Snider; her brothers, Ernest E. Richardson, J. Daniel Richardson and William H. Richardson.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the Evelyn Hankla Circle, Women’s Bible Class and the AARP.

Virginia J. Tate
Virginia Pearl Johnson Tate, 84, of Louisa, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at Louisa Healthcare Center.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Ron Panebaker, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at Memorial Baptist Church. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by a son, William Edward Johnson Jr. and his special friend, Linda, of Stafford; two daughters, Jean J. Donovan and her husband, Howard, and Evelyn J. Seal, both of Louisa; two brothers, Clarence Sprouse of Louisa and Earl Sprouse of Midlothian; one sister, Estelle Bibb of Louisa; three grandchildren, Melody D. Hopkins and her husband, Jeff, of Glen Allen, Shannon Lynn Morton and her husband, C.D., and Contina F. Garrison and Mike, all of Partlow; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Devin, Morgan, C.J., Jordan and Mackenzie; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tate was the daughter of the late Harold and Pearl Sherwood Sprouse. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, William Edward Johnson Sr. and Ruben Tate; her brothers, Randolph Sprouse, Elwood Sprouse and Wesley Sprouse; and her twin, Harry Sprouse.
She was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Mary Callison Wash, 88, of Mineral, died Monday, January 15, 2007.
Memorial services, conducted by Dr. John Turner, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at Gilboa Christian Church. A private interment will be held at the Callison family cemetery.
She is survived by her sister, Hazel Anderson; her grandson, Chip Combs and his wife, Barbara; her granddaughter, Kim Combs and her husband, Jerry; three great-grandchildren, R.J., Bryan and Evan; and a number of nieces, nephews and close family friends.

Martha J. Barringer
Martha Jane Barringer of Mineral died Friday, January 19, 2007.
A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 23 at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Additional services will be held at Conroy Funeral Home, Springfield, Ohio. Interment will be at St. Bernard cemetery, Springfield.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Albert J. Barringer; two sons, Donald Barringer of Dayton, Ohio and Thomas Barringer of Springfield; two daughters, Barbara Jane Sullivan of Chesterfield and Mary Beth Downing of Spotsylvania; four grandchildren; a brother, Robert Madden of Springfield; and two sisters, Patricia Johnson of Viness, Florida and Janice Churan of Springfield.
Mrs. Barringer came to Virginia from Ohio 14 years ago.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Annie W. Moody
Annie Leigh Whitlock Moody, 84, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. John West, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 19 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Ave., Richmond. Interment was at Forest Lawn cemetery.
She is survived by her brother, William Porter Whitlock; her sister, Lucy W. Atkins; her sister-in-law, Agnes Whitlock; her nieces and nephews, Thomas Whitlock, Robert E. Whitlock, Milton W. Atkins, Patricia A. Perkins, John Gwaltney, Linda W. Feather and Robin W. McLeod; and her devoted friends, Jacqueline and Mary Jo Presley and Virginia Love.
Mrs. Moody was born February 12, 1922 in Louisa, the daughter of the late William James Porter Whitlock and Lucy Leigh Whitlock. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Lee Moody; and her brothers, James Alfred and Robert S. Whitlock.

Catherine S. Nuckols
Catherine Snedeker Nuckols of Louisa died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. James Thornton and Dr. David Cole, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24 at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Clyde D. Nuckols Sr.; a daughter, Susie Bickley; a son, Clyde “Chuck” D. Nuckols Jr.; two grandchildren, Jesse Bickley and Claire Bickley; a son-in-law, Cecil Bickley; a daughter-in-law, Jaime Bobbert Nuckols, all of Louisa; two sisters, Margaret Tenser of Richmond and Helen Edmonds of Charlottesville; a brother-in-law, Peter Edmonds of Charlottesville; a daughter, Mary White; two grandchildren, Ted and Ashley White; and a son-in-law, Rock White, all of Richmond.
She was an accomplished musician and played the violin, organ, piano and auto harp. She was a school and piano teacher, an organist and a member of the American Dietetic Association.
She graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee and completed a dietetic internship at the Medical College of Virginia.

George A. Phillips
George Albert Phillips, 73, of Bumpass, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor John Hughes, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa. Interment was at Spring Grove cemetery, Mineral.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn E. Phillips; a son, Raymond S. Phillips of Carona, California; two daughters, Patricia L. Phillips of Manassas and Helen E. Phillips of Richmond; a brother, Thomas E. Phillips of Mocksville, North Carolina; and four granddaughters, Adrienne R. Phillips of Phoenix, Arizona, Danielle M. Zaremba of Richmond, Cassandra J. Phillips of Carona, and Victoria G. Lassiter of Richmond.
He was a retired LCDR from the United States Navy (1951-1973). He was a member of the NRA, Lake Anna Civic Association and the Retired Officers Association.
Raymond C. Quarles
Raymond Clyde “Gloomy” Quarles, 88, Louisa, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at Zion Travelers Baptist Church. Interment, with military rites, was at Galilee Baptist Church.
He is survived by four children, Therod Clyde Quarles of Seattle, Washington, Sandra Q. Ellis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sharon Q. Hill of New York and Corliss B. Holmes of Louisa; seven grandchildren, Dominique Baskfield, Damond Baskfield, Lauren Hill, Kimbrely Hill, Williard I. Hill III, Erica Ellis and Jaison Ellis; three great-grandchildren, Nastaje Baskfield, Dorian Baskfield and Ayanna Baskfield; one adopted great-grandchild, Anaya Johnson; two sons-in-law, Timothy Holmes and Williard I. Hill Jr.; a devoted nephew, Elder “June” Quarles; eight sisters-in-law, Elisa Scott, Mary Scott, Audrey Perkins, Pauline Baskfield, Kathleen Bell, Leona Johnson, Alma Quarles and Susie Quarles; three brothers-in-law, Edward Pendleton, Melvin Baskfield and John E. Johnson; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Quarles was born July 22, 1918, the son of the late Nicholas Quarles and Melinda Straughn Quarles. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Theola Scott Quarles.
He was educated in the Louisa County School System and a member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church.
He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal.

George E. Scott
George Edward Scott, 69, of Louisa, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pace, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 26 at Devine Baptist Church, Louisa. Interment will be in the Scott family cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Rose Anna Talley of Louisa; a daughter, Linda Ross of Mineral; one son, Eric White of Charlottesville; five brothers, Jerry Scott, Terry Scott, Everette Scott, Edmond Leroy “Peachie” Scott Jr. and Earl Scott, all of Louisa; a devoted friend, Emma Jean Wells of Louisa; and a number of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Scott was born August 5, 1937 in Louisa County, the son of the late Edmond Leroy Scott Sr. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Scott and Nathaniel Scott.
He was a member of Devine Baptist Church, Louisa County.
