Leroy Lewis
Leroy Lewis, 78, of Mineral, died Saturday, December 23, 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors at Mr. Lewis’s residence, in Mineral following interment.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alma Putty Lewis; two daughters, Brenda Lewis of Bronx, N.Y and Gail Lewis of Mineral; a granddaughter, Erika White; a great grandson, Jordan White; a loving sister, Rosa Lewis Buckner and husband, Rev. Douglas Buckner, of Fredericksburg; a devoted godson, Gene Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Juanita Terrell and Shirley Wynn; 10 nieces and nephews; his caretaker, Darlene Lewis; and devoted friend, Christina Wilson.
Mr. Lewis was born April 1, 1928 to the late Addison and Eliza Lewis.
He was a retired United States Navy veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Allen L. McCowan
Allen Lee McCowan, 82, died Thursday, December 21, 2006.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 24 at Byrd Grove Baptist Church, Kents Store. Interment with military honors was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Polly Catherine Bland McCowan; two first cousins, Betty Christopher of Richmond and Virgie Eldridge of Buffalo, New York; two sisters-in-law, Alease Cousins of Columbia and Ruth Megginson of Gordonsville; five brothers-in-law, Lynn Bland of Dinwiddie, James and Presley Bland of Fluvanna, Shakespeare Bland of Culpeper and Kenneth Cousins Sr. of Columbia; a devoted nephew, Robert Megginson of Richmond; a devoted niece, Doborah Payne of Fork Union; two close friends, Harry Seay and James Price of Fluvanna; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. McCowan was born February 10, 1924 in Fluvanna County, the son of the late Arthur Lee and Jennie Ann McCowan. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Theodore McCowan of Pennsylvania.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Goochland County. In later years, he became a member of Byrd Grove Baptist Church in Kents Store. He served on the senior choir, trustee board, superintendent of the Sunday school and president of the Sunday School Union.
He attended public school in Goochland and Fluvanna counties and later graduated from the Turpin Barber School in Richmond.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 where he served approximately two years.

Nevada J. Waddy
Nevada Vanderver Johnson Waddy, 86, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at Larkin Chase Nursing Center, Bowie, Maryland.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Hayward, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27 at Hemingway Memorial African Episcopal Church, District Heights, Maryland. Interment was at Laurel Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Mineral.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lloyd Waddy; her three daughters, Gwendolyn Short and her husband, Thomas, of Bowie, Brenda Robertson of Laurel, Maryland, and Wanda Waddy of New York, New York; her stepmother, Cora Johnson; a sister, Florine Barrett; four brothers, Harold, Henry, Calvin and Eugene Johnson; eight granchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a number of relatives and friends; and her caregiver, Annie Jackson.
Mrs. Waddy was born April 6, 1920 in Louisa, the daughter of the late Olga Moody and James Johnson.
She was a retired clerk with the New York Police Department and was educated in the Louisa County Public School System.
Before moving to Maryland, she was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Jamaica, New York, serving on various committees for over 25 years.
When she moved to Bowie in 1982, she joined Hemingway Memorial African Episcopal Church.

Bradley W. Black
Bradley Wayne Black, the three-month-old son of Edward H. Black and Tina Dunivan Black of Louisa, died Thursday, January 11, 2007.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dale Barnhart, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 at Bethpage Christian Church, Fredericks Hall. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his brothers, Damien and Jeremy; his grandparents, Edward and Pamala Black of Louisa, Jerry and Lisa Dunivan of Mineral, and Maria Dunivan of Mineral; his great-grandparents, Ralph and Ruth (GG) Black of Waynesburgh, Pennsylvania, Merle G. Smith Jr. of Jackson, Mississippi, Bonnie Smith of Cortland, Ohio, Martha Dunivan of Mineral, Bobby Dunivan of Mineral and Anna Hawley of Louisa; his aunts and uncles, Lisa and Brian Herring of Smithfield, North Carolina, Barbie Smith and Steve Smith of Cortland, Merle and Rita of Jacksonville, Mississippi, Donnie Black of Waynesburgh, Candy Dunivan, Bugs Dunivan, Christopher Dunivan and Casey Dunivan, all of Mineral; eight great-aunts; five great-uncles; and 19 cousins.
He was born October 10, 2006.

Clayton M. Butler
Clayton M. Butler, 62, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at his residence.
He is survived by a devoted friend of 42 years, Barbara Henson of Mineral; two sons, Kevin Henson and his wife, Angela, of Columbia, Maryland, and Duron Henson and his fianceé, Joan Strong, of Mineral; a daughter, Shelley Green and her fiancé, Alvin Daniels, of Goochland; a sister, Grace Taylor and her husband, Arthur Taylor of Bumpass; one aunt, Dorothy Harris and her husband, Harry, of Cuckoo; two sisters-in-law; six grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and several devoted friends, Thomas Henson, Lewis Shelton, Sonny Carter, Charlie Johnson, Eugene Houchens (Son), and John Smith.
Mr. Butler was born May 6, 1944 in Fredericks Hall, the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Butler. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence and James Butler; and a sister, Mary Butler.
He joined Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age. He worked at several sawmills as a laborer for a number of years.
Kathryn D. Mitcheltree
Kathryn Darc Mitcheltree, 83, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at the Laurels of Willow Creek in Midlothian.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery.
She is survived by her sister, Mary M. Shelton of Midlothian; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ms. Mitcheltree was born August 25, 1923 in Green Springs, the daughter of the late Edwin G. and Myrtle C. Mitcheltree. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, James, Robert and Wesley Mitcheltree; and a sister, Evelyn M. Joran.
She retired from the Brazilian Aeronautics Commission in Washington D.C. after 35 years of service.

Annie W. Moody
Annie Whitlock Moody, 84, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 19 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Ave., Richmond. Interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 18 at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville.
She is survived by her brother, Porter Whitlock; her sister, Lucy W. Atkins; her sister-in-law, Agnes Whitlock; her nieces and nephews, Thomas Whitlock, Robert E. Whitlock, Milton Wayne Atkins, Patricia W. Perkins, John Gaultney, Linda W. Feather and Robin McLeod; and her devoted friends, Jacqueline, Mary Jo Presley and Virginia Love.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Moody; and her brothers, James Alfred and Robert S. Whitlock.

Estelle P. Pleasants
Estelle Proffitt Pleasants, 76, of Holly Grove, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13 at Oakland Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Ralph Pleasants, Brenda and Wallace Snead, and Nancy and Dana Franklin, all of Holly Grove; her brother, George Proffitt Jr. of Falmout; her grandchildren, Norman, Stacey, Jill, Jason, Jaimie and John Snead, Jesse Pleasants, Ember and Caleb Franklin, all of Holly Grove, and Aron and Jennifer Trimmer of Atlanta, Georgia; and her great-grandchldren, Jordan and Kaylen Snead, Madison Trimmer and Brandon Smith.
Mrs. Pleasants was the daughter of the late George Wesley Proffitt Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, E. Ohma Pleasants, Forrest M. Henley Sr., David E. Powers and Cabell French; and her siblings, C. McGuire Proffitt Sr., Ruth “Sis” Sprouse, Virginia Pleasants and Audrey Rosson.

Susan Leslie Wheaton Rheaume died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at St. Paul’s Memorial Church Chapel, 1700 University Avenue, Charlottesville.
She is survived by her partner of 15 years, Lee Epperson; a son, Jacob; a daughter, Celeste Donnelly; a sister, Wendy Wheaton Craig and her husband, William; two brothers, Kenny and Bill Wheaton; her mother, Irene Wheaton of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a grandson, Cash Donnelly; and two nephews, Matthew and Jonathan Craig.
