Betty H. Reid
Betty H. Reid of Tabscott died Saturday, August 5, 2006.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Goldsmith, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Duley and her husband, Wayne; a son, John A. Reid and his wife, Susan; five grandchildren, Travis Duley and his wife, Penny, David, Colin, Brad and Lauren Reid; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Hannah Duley; two brothers, John Haycox and James Haycox; two sisters, Mary Cutright and Carol Mullins; and a number of nieces and nephews and Moses the cat.
Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her husband, Alton E. “Hoss” Reid.
She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Crop Reporting Service and retired from Sprint (formerly Centel).

William L. Able
William L. Able, 42, of Gum Spring, died Saturday, November 11, 2006.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Tim Wilson, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 14 at Perkins Baptist Church, Goochland. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Able; his son, Benjamin L. Able; his father, Oscar B. Able; two sisters, Berlene Herren and her husband, Keith, and Rebecca Ellis and her husband, Courtley; a niece; and a nephew.
Mr. Able was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Able.

Josephine G. Clements
Josephine Gibson Clements, 84, of Gordonsville, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 14 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville. Interment was at Riverview cemetery, Charlottesville.
She is survived by four daughters, Martha Ellen Harris and her husband, George, of Faber, Mary Estelle Wright and her companion, Willie Jones, of Louisa, Frances Lee Shafer and her husband, Bobby, of Barboursville, and Barbara Ann Hepler of Gordonsville; a son-in-law, Jasper Shifflett of Barboursville; a granddaughter, like a daughter, Melinda Mason of Kents Store; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Clements was born September 29, 1922 in Albemarle County, the daughter of the late Archie Pleasant Gibson and Gabie Sprouse Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Waller Clements; her daughters, Norma Jean Shifflett, Cecelia Marie Morris and Carolyn Ann Thacker; a brother, Thomas Jefferson Gibson; a sister, Frances Kay “Maude” Gibson; a grandson, Michael Shifflett; her great-grandchildren, Mark Shafer, Robert Shafer and Kimberly Shifflett; and her son-in-law, Stanley Hepler.

Alfred N. McBride
Alfred N. McBride, 75, of Louisa, died Sunday, November 12, 2006.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18 at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
He is survived by his children, Jim McBride and his wife, Barbara, of California, Linda McBride of Alabama, Carol Jarrett, Michael Nicholason, Donna Croswell, Robbie Nicholason and Linda O’Connell; a number of grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Hamilton and Donnie Hamilton.
Mr. McBride was born August 30, 1931 in Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. McBride.
He worked as an aircraft engineer for Roah Aircraft. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Louisa Moose Lodge.

Ollie P. Shiflett
Ollie Perry “O.P.” Shiflett, 97, of Ruckersville, died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Evergreen Nursing Home, Stanardsville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dawn Lare, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 14 at Preddy Funeral Home, Madison. Interment was in Holly Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by two sons, Randolph Perry Shiflett and his wife, Lorene, of Ruckersville, and Francis Arnold Shiflett and his wife, Mae, of Stanardsville; a daughter, Bonny Kay Greenbaum and her husband, Benjamin, of Richmond; two sisters, Beulah C. Crane of Scarsdale, New York, and Lola Fay Morris of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Cindy Lee, Kathy Watson, Jody and Jamie Shiflett, and Joshua and Noah Greenbaum; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shiflett was born October 17, 1909 in Nimrod, the son of the late William George Shiflett and Laura Belle Morris Shiflett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Elsie Mae Shifflett; six brothers, Russell W. Shiflett, E. Pat Shiflett, George H. Shiflett, James L. Shiflett, Raleigh Shiflett and Floyd E. Shiflett; and three sisters, Millie M. Knight, Mamie B. Shifflett and Katherine B. Frazier.
He was a co-founder of the Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Department, worked as trustee for the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, created the Wild Wood Valley Subdivision, worked the Long Acre Poultry & Cattle Farm and operated the Circle Inn Motel and Restaurant.

Edith F. Waller
Edith Florine Waller, 81, of Louisa, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. John Nedza, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Novembmer 12 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Byrd Waller; five children, Carlton Bruce Harlow, Johnny Wilson Harlow, both of Louisa, Daniel Wayne Waller and his wife, Debbie, of Spotsylvania, Beverly W. Robertson and her husband, David, and Sandra W. Starkey and her friend, Allen Turney, of Louisa; and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Waller was the daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle Houchens.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

William J. Walton
William Jackson Walton of Bumpass died Sunday, November 12, 2006.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Don Richardson and Dr. David Black, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 15 at Holly Grove Christian Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Carolyn M. Bagby and her husband, Robert M.; his stepgranddaughter, Cynthia B. Wilson and her husband, Byron M.; his stepgreat-grandsons, Clark and Alexander Wilson, all of Bumpass; his brother, M. Freeman Walton and his wife, Eunice, of Mineral; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Walton was the son of the late Thomas J. and Virginia Bennett Walton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irene Noel Walton; a brother, Joseph Walton; and his sisters, Aurelia Harper, Mabel Tuck and Revis Miltz.
He was a lifetime member of Salem Christian Church, a World War II veteran and was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Penny Poole Butler, 42, of Bumpass, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006.
Graveside services, conducted by Wayne Anderson, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14 at Spring Grove Memorial cemetery in Mineral.
She is survived by two children, Brandy L. Butler and James E. Butler Jr.; her ex-husband, James E. Butler Sr.; her mother, Clariece Joslin; three brothers, Randy, Mike and Bobby Shane Poole; four sisters, Carolyn S. Pleasants, Janice F. Poole, Tracy L. Poole and Avery Poole; her nephews, Herman L. Mallory, Daniel T. Mallory, Damarus Thurston, Bobby R. Poole, Jahiem I. Poole and Ronyea Poole; her nieces, Dolly Jeffcoat, Veronica Poole, Jessica Frausto, Christina Poole, Candy L. Dunivan, Chesley Thurston, Amanda Poole and Ashly Poole; one expected grandchild; a sister-in-law, Rita P. Poole; and a brother-in-law, Charles Pleasants.
Mrs. Butler was born December 25, 1963 in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Poole; three uncles, Lonnie, H.R. and L.E. Poole; and a niece, Charly Sue Pleasants.

Dorothy H. Hargrave
Dorothy Havens “Dot” Hargrave died Monday, October 30, 2006 at Mary Washington Health Center in Colonial Beach.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2 at Grace United Methodist Church at Rollins Fork. Interment was at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Hargrave Riggs of Tampa, Florida, Joseph Melville Hargrave and Linda Hargrave Spillman, both of King George County; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hargrave was born in 1909 in Dinwiddie. She was preceded in death by her son, James Lloyd Hargrave; her husband, Arthur Melville Hargrave; and eight siblings.
She studied at the University of Virginia where she earned a nursing degree. She retired from a nursing career that spanned nearly 50 years as the director of nurses at Louisa County Hospital in 1975.
