Barbara L. Beck
Barbara Lee Beck, 66, of Gordonsville, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Carmon Hartsfield, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville. Interment was in Maplewood cemetery, Gordonsville.
She is survived by her husband, John Scott Beck; a daughter, Loree Beck; two sons, Glenn Beck and Scott Beck; and a grandchild, Veronica Beck, all of Gordonsville.
Mrs. Beck was born March 21, 1939 in Orange County, the daughter of the late Oakie Post and Blanche Tinder Post. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Beck.

Virginia D. Dunn
Virginia Davis Dunn, 86, of Montpelier, died Saturday, April 16, 2005.
Graveside services, conducted by Clyde Dalton, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18 in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her husband, James Blair Dunn Sr; her children, Patricia Bienlien, James Blair Dunn Jr., Beverly Borden, Delores Dunn and Lynnwood Dunn; her grandchildren, Tim and Jay Bienlien, James Blair Dunn III, Mica and Haley Dunn, Ben and Michael Borden and Abigail, Isabel, Forest and Fiona Dunn; and her great-grandchildren, Dan, Stephen, Michael, Patrick and Erica Bienlien, James Blair Dunn IV, Evelyn Dunn and Alexandria and Benny Borden.
Mrs. Dunn was born September 18, 1918, the daughter of the late William Franklin and Carrie Stanley Davis.
She was a homemaker.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226.

Maurice G. Francisco Jr.
Maurice Garland Francisco Jr., 86, of Nashville, Tennessee, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Baptist Hospital, Nashville.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at Zion Christian Church, Beaverdam.
The family will receive friends at the Christian Center following the service.
He is survived by a brother, Waddy Francisco of Richmond; five sisters, Alice Scott of Louisville, Kentucky, Edith Buckley of Annandale, Mary Jane Sale of Richmond, Martha Francisco-Beck of Hanover, and Rebecca Duke of Louisa; and a longtime friend, Margaret Tolman of Nashville.
Mr. Francisco was born in Fredericks Hall, the son of the late Maurice and Latine Francisco. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Francisco; and a brother, Charles Francisco.
He grew up in Beaverdam and enjoyed a career as an airline pilot.

Margie M. Peyton
Margie M. Peyton, 64, of Nelson County, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at her residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. James Larsen, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery, Dyke.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah L. Payton and her husband, Ronald, of Orange, Vicki E. Watson of Fredericksburg and B. Diane Sims of Nelson and her partner, Anthony M. Reynolds, of Laurel, Maryland; a son, Roy K. Watson Jr. and his partner, Wendy A. Weisel, both of Stanardsville; six grandchildren, Ginger L. Gifford, Jessica F. Payton, Jack Tyler Watson, Amanda L. Weisel, Courtney L. Watson and Logan R. Watson; two brothers, George Dalton Gallimore of Glen Allen and Charles Abby Gallimore of Whitestone; a sister, Eleanor Gallimore of Claymont, Delaware; her best friends, Carolyn Berry, Woody Berry and Anna Pritchett of Charlottesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Peyton was born in Louisa, the daughter of the late John W. Gallimore and Dora L. Harper Gallimore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Peyton; and two sons, Larry E. Watson and Jerry L. Watson.

Bobby R. Sherrill
Bobby Ray “Bob” Sherrill, 75, of Bumpass, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Wise and the Rev. Steve Smith, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at Oakland Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jerralyn N. Sherrill; his daughters, Theresa S. Griffith and her husband, Ronald, and Sharon E. Sherrill; his son, Michael Ray Sherrill; five grandchildren, Rhiannon Sherrill Lambert, Benjamin L. Griffith, Austin R. Sherrill, Joseph D. Griffith and Tiffany Sherrill Ladd; and four great-grandchildren.
He was a deacon at Oakland Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the Happy Day Gospel Singers, his church choir and the Richmond Tobaccoland Chorus.
At the age of 32, Mr. Sherrill went to college, where he received a degree in recreational leadership in Christian leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
He worked part time at William Byrd Community Center while attending college.
In 1969, after graduating, he became director of Camp Kiwanis, owned and operated by the Kiwanis Club of Richmond.

Sara G. Smith
Sara Goodwin Smith, 90, of Louisa, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at The Cedars Nursing Home, Charlottesville.
Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Ann Manson, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by her son, Robert Morton Smith III and his wife, Rebecca, of Louisa; a sister, Minnie G. Nielsen of Ocala, Florida; two grandchildren, W.D. Smith of Louisa and Christopher L. Smith of Louisa; a special cousin, Winifred Doboy of Charlottesville; a nephew; and two great-nieces.
Mrs. Smith was born September 10, 1914 in Louisa County, the daughter of the late William Shands Goodwin and Nannie Winston Goodwin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Morton Smith Jr.
She was a retired school teacher, where she worked for the Louisa County School System for over 30 years. She was also a charter member of the Louisa Historical Society, a member of the Mineral Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member of the Louisa Court House Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Louisa K.S. Club and a member and trustee of St. James Episcopal Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Louisa County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1777, Louisa, VA 23093 or the Louisa Volunteer Fire Company, 300 East Main Street, Louisa, VA 23093.

Julia A. Wallace
Julia Alexander Wallace, 89, of Richmond, formerly of Fork Union, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Ginter Hall West, Richmond.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21 at Fork Union Memorial cemetery.
She is survived by a son, William Kelly Wallace Jr. and his wife, Kay; two granddaughters, Kelley J. Wallace and Ashley V. Wallace, all of Richmond; one sister, Ruth A. Greene of Charlottesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wallace was born October 30, 1915 in Fork Union, the daughter of the late Ruth Snead and Nathan Cogbill Alexander. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Kelly Wallace Sr.; a sister, Ann Omohundro; and a brother, Charles Alexander.
She was a member of Fork Union Baptist Church and served as the church librarian for a number of years. She was employed by Fork Union Military Academy until her retirement.
Mrs. Wallace attended Averett College and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing.

Charles R. Carpenter Jr.
Charles R. Carpenter Jr., 95, of Newport News, died Thursday, June 9, 2005.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 11 at Temple Baptist Church. Interment was at Bethpage Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Estelle S.W. Carpenter; two adopted sons, Edwin W. Carpenter of Richmond, and David E. Walker of Canton, Michigan; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Walton (Kay) Wine.
Mr. Carpenter was born May 27, 1910 in Buckner, the son of the late Charles R. Carpenter Sr. and Nannie Cooke Carpenter, both of Louisa County. He was also preceded in death by two sisters; and a brother.
After losing his mother when he was 11 years old, he was raised on Cherry Hill Farm, Apple Grove, by his paternal grandparents.
He graduated from Smith, Deal, Massey Business College in Richmond in 1930 and then obtained his first and only job at E. A. Harper and Company, Warwick, where he served for 60 years as a corporate officer and head bookkeeper.
Mr. Carpenter was baptized at South Anna Baptist Church and was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, Newport News, where he served in many capacities, including deacon, Sunday School teaher and secretary.

Robert J. Owen
Robert John Owen, 74, of Boydton, died Monday, June 6, 2005.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home. Interment services were held at Woodland cemetery, with full military rites provided by American Legion Post #43.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Owen and Betty Owen Luck of Bumpass; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremiah and Joshua Luck; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Smith; and two sisters, Bessie O. Dunn and Willie O. Hosley.
Mr. Owen was the son of the late Maude Cooper and James Thomas Owen. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and James Edward Owen; and three sisters, Alice Anderson, Mary Hill and Nellie Reed.
He was retired from F.F.V. Interstate Bakery, member of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a recipient of the Military Cross of Service from the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boydton Life Station.
