Lucy D. Harris
Lucy Duke Harris, 95, of Apple Grove, Mineral, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at South Anna Baptist Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa.
She is survived by two sons, Alexander Jackson Harris Jr. and Stephen Carey Harris; her grandchildren, David Alexander Harris and his wife, Colleen, John Overton Harris and his wife, Anne, Michael Christian Harris and his wife, Jennifer, Melanie Harris Maahs and her husband, Carl, Kemper Christian Walke III and his wife, Tina, Amy Harris Seay and her husband, Steve, Katie Harris Miller and her husband, Jay, Stephen Carey Harris Jr. and Robert Laydon Jackson Harris; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Peggy Duke Smiley.
Mrs. Harris was born March 20, 1909, the daughter of the late Jabez Franklin and Mary Cosby Duke. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Jackson Harris; a daughter Barbara Harris Walker; a son-in-law, Kemper Christian Walke Jr.; her granddaughter, Mary Overton Walke; and two sisters, Mary Duke Schucker and Dorothy Duke Green.
She was a graduate of Radford State Teachers College and taught school in Louisa County briefly. Later she served as school secretary at Apple Grove Elementary School from 1956 until its closing.
A member of South Anna Baptist Church, she had the longest membership. She taught Sunday School where the children called her “Miss Lucy.” She was a homemaker.

Joyce L. Kemp
Joyce Lloyd Kemp, 73, of Bumpass, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004.
Funeral services, conducted by Linden Keffer and Hugh Whitley, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at Bethany Christian Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Leland S. Kemp; her sons, Charles W. Kemp and his wife, Patty, and Frank Kemp; a daughter, Charlotte Trainum and her husband, Ed; and three granddaughters, Melinda, Kacey and Amy.
Mrs. Kemp was born August 6, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles and Charlsley Talley Lloyd. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Noel and Evelyn Kemp.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Christian Church.

Dorothy Kirkland
Dorothy “Dot” Kirkland, 70, of Richmond, died Thursday, April 1, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3 at the Bliley Funeral Homes’ Staples Mill Chapel. Interment was in Signal Hill Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie Porter Kirkland; four children, Leslie Porter Kirkland Jr. and his wife, Eva, Deborah E. Myers and her husband, Richard, Bruce Wayne Kirkland and Richard Van Kirkland; four sisters, Nellie Neff, Beatrice Rogers and her husband, Pete, Bessie A. Simmons and Catherine Sacra; five grandchildren, Laurie A. Kirkland, Lee A. Kirkland, Tonya Myers, Daniel Myers and Megan Kirkland; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Smith.
Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by a brother, T. L. Armstrong Jr.
Gladys B. Morris
Gladys Dean Bullock Morris, 94, of Charlottesville, a Louisa native, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Trinity Mission Nursing Home of Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Sherman Thomas, will be held at noon Saturday, April 10 at Mt. Gilliam Old Site Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by two daughters, Dora Comfort and her husband, Amon, of Spotsylvania, and Deloris Johnson and her husband, John, of Louisa; five sons, Oscar Morris and his wife, Halley, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Donald Morris and his wife, Parthenia, of Tallahassee, Florida, James Morris and his wife, Terry, of Las Vegas, Nevada, George Morris and his wife, Alice, and Curtis Morris and his wife, Beulah, all of Louisa; a daughter-in-law, Rita Morris Monk of Fort Washington, Maryland; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Morris of Fort Washington, Maryland, Hilda Morris of Wilmington, Delaware and Yvonne Morris of Wasington, D.C.; a brother-in-law, Lynwood Granderson of Richmond; 24 grandchildren; a number of great and great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Morris was born July 31, 1909 in Fredericks Hall.
She received her formal education in Louisa.

Roy L. Navarre
Roy Louis Navarre, 76, of Trevilians, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Carmen Hartsfield, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 5 at Gordonsville Baptist Church. Interment, with full military honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524 with Father George Griffin officiating, was at Culpeper National cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Schinder Navarre; two daughters, Cherie Annette Scott and her husband, Glen, and Debra Ann Dove and her husband, William, all of Trevilians; two sons, Roy Edward Navarre of Pennsylvania and David William Navarre of Richmond; a brother, Larry Navarre; a sister, Mary Hellen Burke, both of Port Allen, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Mr. Navarre was born February 6, 1928 in Plaquemine, Louisiana, the son of the late Edward and Ida Blanchard Navarre.
He was a retired drywall contractor and a World War II Navy veteran.

Eunice D. Simms
Eunice D. Simms, 74, of Mineral, died Friday, April 2, 2004.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5 at Westhampton Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela S. Osborne of Mineral; three sons, Danny F. and Dennis G. Simms, both of Goochland, and David G. Simms of Richmond; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Asilee Harper, Ardena Stevans, Pauline Goddard and Sissy Timideyewer; and five brothers, Bobby, Billy, James, Carl and Buddy Dillon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Robert C. Taliaferro
Robert Clifton Taliaferro, 77, of Louisa, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at a local hospital.
Funeral services were private.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Taliaferro; three daughters, Linda Palmer, Chris Hodges and Darci Villari-Carr; five step-children, Sharon Robinson, Wesley Dickerson, Owen L. Palmer Jr., Danny Dickerson and Karl Dickerson; six grandchildren, Tina Boyden, Carrie Moore, Diana Robert, Joseph Villari, Michael Carr and Susan Young; and three great-grandchildren, Jesse Boyden, Clayton Thomas Moore and Molly Moore.
Mr. Taliaferro was born in Spotsylvania, the son of the late Clifton Taliaferro and Nellie Engedi Foster.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II aboard the destroyer USS Rhind.

Troy Walker
Troy Walker, 36, of Louisa, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Walter Jones, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at County Line Baptist Church, Goochland. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Lloyd Walker Jr. and Geraldine Price Walker, both of Louisa; a brother, Lloyd Walker III of Seattle, Washington; aunts; uncles; nephews; nieces; his maternal grandmother, Gertie Price of Louisa; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Walker was born May 5, 1967 in Charlottesville.
He was a musician.

Steven C. Whitehead
Steven Clair Whitehead, 43, of Rocky Gap, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Park View Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Funeral services, conducted by Woodrow Bailey, were held Saturday, April 3 at Laurel Fork Church of Christ. Interment was in the Laurel Fork cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Thompson Whitehead; a daughter, Karen Vogel and her husband, Richie, of Bluefield; a son, Steven Clair Whitehead Jr. of Bluefield; a stepdaughter, Danielle La’Rai Jennings of Rocky Gap; two grandchildren, Daniel Whitehead and Ashlyn Whitehead; his mother, Janice Gullion and her husband, William, of Kegley, West Virginia; a sister, Brenda Major of Richmond; a brother, Eugene Whitehead and his wife, Cathy, of Pennsylvania; a niece, Susan Conway and her husband, Rich; two nephews, Jason Whitehead and his wife, Amanda, and Adam Whitehead and his wife, Jessica; a great-niece, Kaylea Whitehead; and one great-nephew, Jared Conway.
Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his father, Emmitt Eugene Whitehead.
He was a truck driver with Annette Holdings Inc. and a member of Laurel Fork Churchy of Christ.
