Harry Aaron
Harry Edward Aaron, 80, 137 Alpine Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 9, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Horatio Edgar Aaron and Lottie Payne Aaron.
He lived his entire life in Danville and he was retired from Dan River Inc., where he worked in designing research in 8B Dress.
He was a member of West End Christian Church and was a former deacon.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 759th Light Tank Battalion and was in the D-Day invasion.
On Nov. 11, 1948, he married
Edna Clark Aaron, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, Harry Clark Aaron of Lynchburg; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Conley Aaron and Claude Aaron; and three sisters, Stella A. Stowe; Ruth A. Hundley; and Nora A. Smiley.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Highland Burial Park by Dr. William Dozier.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and at other times at the residence.
Clarence Davis
HURT - Clarence William Davis, 77, 626 Spring St., died Friday night, Dec. 19, 1997, at his residence.
Born in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 2, 1920, he was the son of Helen Davis of Washington and the late Ambrose Davis.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Washington and was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Washington.
He was married
to Arlene Davis.
In addition to his mother, and his wife, of the residence; he is survived by two daughters, Beverley Johnson of Washington and Diane Davis of Clinton, Md.; stepdaughter Evelyne Goard of Hurt; two brothers, Lawrence Davis of Washington and Andrew Davis of Suitland, Md; a sister, Helen Davis of Washington; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted noon on Wednesday from the Staunton Baptist Church by Dr. P.A. Medley with burial in the church cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
Rufus Francis
Rufus Harding Francis, 76, 509 Lakeside Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at his residence after six months of declining health.
Born July 17, 1921, in Halifax County, he was the son of Robert Francis and Beulah Hancock Francis.
He lived his entire life in Danville and was a retired machinist with Danville Lumber Company.
He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was married
to Elsie Black Francis.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by a son, Dennis Francis, of Danville; three daughters, Pat Spencer of Crystal Hill, Debra Dockery of Ringgold, Donna Goolsby of Blairs; three brothers, John Francis, Claude Francis and Matthew Francis, all of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Will Rowland; and a brother, Melvin Francis.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.

Earnestine Harris
ALTON - Earnestine Pointer Harris, 67, 1065 Brandon Chapel Road, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1997, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1930, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Samuel E. Pointer and Eliza Brandon Pointer.
She was married
to George E. Harris Jr., who predeceased her. She was a member of Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Harris, of the residence; five sons, George Harris of South Boston, William Harris of Ringwood, N.J., Willie Harris of Milton, N.C., Samuel Harris of the residence and Ernest Harris of Danville; a stepson, Leonard Whitlock of Astoria, N.Y.; four sisters, Mary Brandon of Brown Summit, N.C., and Ada Wenstley, Juanita Brewer and Louise Sparks, all of Alton; five brothers, Mack Pointer of New York, John Pointer of Turbeville, Lark Pointer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Elijah Pointer and Samuel Pointer, both of Alton; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Douglas Klutz
Douglas Eugene Klutz, 55, 167 Riverview Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at his residence. He had been in declining health for three years.
Born Oct. 2, 1942, in Danville, he was the son of Earl Klutz.
His entire life was spent in Danville, where he was formerly employed by Dan River Inc. He attended Timber Lake Baptist Church.
He is survived by a number of cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Gilmer Setliff.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Tuesday night at Swicegood Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of his cousin, Rick Fowler, 340 Mount Hermon Circle, off Route 41 in Tuscarora Farms.
Kim Long
HALIFAX - Kim Elizabeth Long, 23, 1073 Holly Court, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Born Feb. 20, 1974, in Prince George County, she was the daughter of J. Frankie Long and Nina S. Long, who survive.
She was a member of Dan River Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents of Halifax, she is survived by a sister, Cindy Long, of Halifax; her maternal grandmother, Estelle Sparks, of Spruce Pine, N.C.; and her fiance, Kenneth Ayers.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jamie Franklin Long; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Long; and her maternal grandfather, Robert Sparks.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Dan River Baptist Church by Dr. Dennis Knight. Burial will follow in the First Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery, located in Turbeville.

Helen Patty
Helen McCormick Patty, 75, 130 Clarendon Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Bouldin McCormick and Mary Carlton McCormick.
She was retired from Bank of Virginia, where she was employed for more than 20 years. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church.
She was married
to Darrell Henry Patty, who died June 4, 1987.
She is survived by three sons, Darrell Henry Patty Jr. of Sophia, N.C., Kenneth Dane Patty of Chatham, and David Carlton Patty of McLean; a daughter, Robin Patty Jones, of Danville; four sisters, Alice M. Anderton of Illinois, Annie M. Snyder of Richmond, and Mary Catherine McCray and Nell M. James, both of Staunton; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia McCormick; and two brothers, Branford McCormick and Cabell McCormick.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. Burial will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

Shirley Watson
Shirley Honeycutt Watson, 62, 337 Bennett Street, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at the Stratford Health Care Center. She had been declining in health for the past two years.
Born Dec. 9, 1935, in Danville, she was the daughter of Clarence J. Honeycutt and Clarice Hall Honeycutt, who survive.
She was married
to Charlie Watson.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, and her mother of Danville, she is survived by a daughter, Carlene Scott of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Steven R. Elliott and Russell W. Elliott, both of High Point, N.C.; a brother, Melvin Honeycutt, of Danville; five sisters, Jackie Aherron, Bonnie Scearce and Carol Adkins, all of Danville, Sarah Honeycutt of Baltimore, and Sue Brooks of Java; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. William P. Sparks and the Rev. Neal Isom.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the home of her mother, 238 Brightwell Court.
Thomas Burchett Jr.
The Rev. Thomas F. Burchett Jr., 68, 201 Hughes St., died Sunday night, Dec. 21, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after a decline in health since Nov. 8.
Born May 9, 1929, in Greensboro, N.C., he was a son of Thomas F. Burchett Sr. and Dora Wright Burchett.
He was married
to Martha Mumpower Burchett.
A resident of Danville for a number of years, he moved to Logan, W. Va., where he served as pastor of West Logan Church of God for the past 22 years.
He had been the pastor of a number of churches in Virginia and West Virginia for 47 years.
In September of 1997, he moved back to Danville.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Susan Burchett Smith of Homerville, Ga., and Sandra Burchett Chandler of Harrisonburg; a son, Thomas F. "Butch" Burchett III of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Gretchel Jones of Smithville, Joan Dill of Ashland and Judy Jones of Danville; a brother, Joe Burchett of Danville; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph "Buster" Burchett, who died in 1997.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riveroak Church of God by the Rev. Kenneth Boyd, the Rev. Griffin Duncan, the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Carl White. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
