Shirley Bradley
Shirley Pruitt Bradley, 46, of 1211 Myrtle Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, in the UNC Hospital-Chapel Hill.
Born March 8, 1951, in Danville, she was a daughter of Willie Thomas Pruitt and Annie Daniel Pruitt, who survives.
She retired as a certified nursing assistant because of her health.
She was a member of Full Gospel Revival Chapel.
She was married
to James Bradley, who survives. She was predeceased by a brother, Earl Pruitt.
In addition to her mother of Danville and husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Ann Pearl Wells of Danville; a son, Panayotis A. Pavlis of Danville; three sisters, Lilly Lovelace, Nancy Pruitt and Doris Pruitt, all of Danville; two brothers, David Pruitt and Thomas Pruitt, both of Danville; and one grandson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Mike Hearp. Interment will be at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Annie Pruitt, 30 Morris Ave.
Henry Jefferson
Henry Odell Jefferson, 66, of 262 Fagan St., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem. He had been in declining health for 10 years and was a patient in the hospital for four years.
Born Feb. 15, 1931, in Danville, he was a son of Lemon Odell Jefferson, who survives, and Irene Mann Jefferson.
He had lived his entire life in the Danville area. He was a retired painter.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his father of the home, survivors include two brothers, Curtis T. Jefferson Sr. of Keeling and Robert W. Jefferson of Danville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. James Albert.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 262 Fagan St.
Mary Frances Southard
Mary Frances Dodd Southard, 71, of 330 Starmont Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at her residence.
Born Dept. 1, 1926, in Danville, she was a daughter of Samuel Oliver Dodd and Laura Josephine Eggleston Dodd.
She graduated from George Washington High School in 1945.
She was a secretary in the Danville Department of Public Works for 27 years. She was a member of the City of Danville Retirees.
For 60 years, she was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
On Feb. 12, 1952, she was married
to Ray Giles Southard, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Laura Ellen Southard of Danville and Mildred Louise Dodd of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Johnson.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 330 Starmont Drive.
Nelson White
CHATHAM - Nelson B. White, 59, of 1848 Banister Road, died Friday morning, Dec. 12, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 25, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Daniel and Mary C. White.
He was a retired Stanley Furniture Co. employee.
He was married
to Elnora B. White, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Edward L. White of Henry and Curtis White of Chatham; five daughters, Linda Hairston of Callands, Barbara White of Martinsville, Gloria Clark, Mary White and Tammy White, all of Chatham; three brothers, Salis White of Chatham, Wayne White of Danville and Melvin White of Climax; three sisters, Garland White, Sedonia White and Mary Ruth Wade, all of Roanoke; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Deering.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Carl Campbell
Carl Jefferson Campbell, 75, 117 Alpine Drive, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 25, 1922, in Danville, he was the son of Carl Jefferson Campbell Sr. and Elsie Bolt Campbell.
He was married
to Mozelle McDowell Campbell, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
He lived most of his life in Danville, where he spent his early years in the Schoolfield community. He was an agent for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia for 15 years. He was later the owner and operator of Aaron Tarpley Cleaners.
He was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church, the VFW Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647, and also a member of the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325.
In addition to his wife of Danville, he is survived by a daughter, Penny Campbell Cummings of Odenton, Md.; a brother, Bernard Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla.; a half-sister, Carolyn McIvers of Richmond; three step-sisters, Mary Fulton of Danville and Lossie Hayes and Joyce McBride, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his step-mother, Nellie Campbell.

Florence Cooke
Florence Devine Cooke, 86, formerly of 657 Edgewood Drive, died Saturday, December 13, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 3, 1911, in New Rockwell, N.Y., she was the daughter of William J. Devine and Cora Henniger Devine.
She was married
to James Gordon Cooke, who died in 1959.
She was an active member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church.
She was a retired bookkeeper at Riverside Oil Company.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Cooke and Durand Cooke, both of Danville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Daryl Joyce.
The family will receive friends at the a son's residence, 614 Chatham Ave.

Major Culley
Major Culley, 80, 1835 Halifax Road, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 16, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Culley and Mary Lee Culley.
He was married
to Euolia Deshazor Culley, who survives.
He worked for Dan River Mills Inc. for 45 years in the Schoolfield Cotton Room.
He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Thomas Culley of Danville; three brothers, Willie Culley, Elbert Culley and James Culley, all of Danville; a sister, Kenzie Carter, of Pensgrove, N.J.; a grandchild; and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1835 Halifax Road.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Matthew Scott. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Briley Hedrick
CHATHAM - Briley Edwards Hedrick, 69, 116 Peach Street, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Percy Albert Edwards and Annie Lou Hankins Edwards, who survives.
She was married
to J.D. Hedrick, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Chatham Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother of Mt. Airy, she is survived by a son, Earl A. Hedrick of Chatham; a daughter, Briley Anne Hedrick of Murfeesboro, N.C.; three sisters, Alberta E. Johnson of Danville, Virginia Ann E. Tucker of Strightstone, and Jean E. Midkiff of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Pete Edwards.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chatham Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Macon. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Bark.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of her son, Earl Hedrick, 124 Hedrick Drive.
