Ocie Crabb
Ocie Keith Crabb, 87, 144 Martin Ave., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 10, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for 10 years. She had been in declining health for several years.
Born April 4, 1910, in Blacksburg, she was the daughter of William Keith and Jathina Alderman Keith.
She was married
to Dewey Watson Crabb, who died Nov. 21, 1994.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she was retired from Dan River Inc., as a spinner.
She was a member of Sandy Shores Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James Dewey Crabb of Fayetteville, N.C.; two daughters, Evelyn C. Haislip of Danville and Edith C. Rice of Houston; 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David Rice. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Evelyn Haislip, 125 Mount Vernon Ave.
Lodema Wilkerson
SOUTH BOSTON - Lodema Landrum Wilkerson, 83, 311 Leigh St., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at the Woodview.
Born June 2, 1914, in Pelham, N.C., she was a daughter of Charlie Henry Landrum and Nannie Howard Chaney Landrum.
She was married
to Mitchell Franklin Wilkerson.
She was a member of South Boston Church of God, where she was a secretary of the church for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Franklin Wilkerson and Donnie Gray Wilkerson, both of South Boston; a daughter, Nell Wilkerson Talley of Alton; a sister, Eugenia Landrum Anderson of South Boston; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Don Fox and the Rev. Bill Leonard. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her son, Donnie Wilkerson, 1019 Sweet Gum Road, South Boston.
William Beck Sr.
William Henry Beck Sr., 74, 1303 Oak St., died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at his residence.
Born Dec. 7, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willie Pritchett and Rosa Beck Pritchett.
He was married
to Lucille Dodson Beck, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include five daughters, Rebecca Beck, Cliftina Beck, Gay Francis Beck, Beverly Holland and Cynthia Russell, all of Danville; four sons, William Beck Jr. of Alabama, Barry Beck and Kenneth Beck, both of Danville, and Jerry Beck of the Netherlands; a brother, Elder James Pritchett of Maryland; five sisters, Ada Coles of Danville, and Odessa Mack, Velois Goode, Luvenia Glass and Dorothy Gale, all of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Herbert L. Dickerson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Harry Lee
Harry Marshall Lee, 73, 1208 Meadowview Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at his residence following 20 months of declining health.
Born March 22, 1924, in Franklin County, he was a son of Harry Morman Lee and Mary Emma Beheler Lee.
On Oct. 8, 1954, he was married
to Nancy Walker Lee, who survives.
A resident of Danville for most of his life, he was a member of Westover Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and a trustee.
He was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where he had worked as a supervisor in the No. 1 weave room, Riverside Division.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Danny Franklin Lee of Pelham, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Jeanette W. Womack and Linda W. Eatman, both of Danville; a brother, Gordon Lee of Bassett; a sister, Agnes L. Jarrett of Bassett; eight grandchildren and one adopted grandchild; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Westover Baptist Church by the Rev. Doug Barber, the Rev. Robert Vermillion and the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Harry Wilson
Harry Lee Wilson, 69, 123 Wilton Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital after two months of declining health.
Born March 6, 1928, in the Schoolfield community of Danville, he was a son of John William Wilson and Betty Lou Norton Wilson.
He was married
to Margaret Davis Wilson, who died Feb. 21, 1980.
A resident of Danville for most of his life, he was of the Catholic faith and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was employed by C.M. Ofray & Son Inc. He had previously retired from Cone Mill in Thomasville, N.C., having worked there from 1986 to 1995. He had also worked for Commercial Carving in Thomasville, N.C., for five years.
He was in the restaurant business for five years in Pittsylvania County and eight years in Halifax County. For 27 years, he had worked at Burlington Mills.
He was a member of American Legion Post 325 and Woodmen of the World.
From 1946 to 1949, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his fiancee, Carolyn Bruce Powell Sigmon of Danville; two daughters, Peggy C. Sigmon of Altavista and Betty S. Blackwell; four sisters, Thelma Wilson Bray and Janice Wilson Barker, both of Blanch, N.C., and Irene Wilson Plummer and Dorothy Wilson Bailey, both of Denton, N.C.; and a grandson.
He was also predeceased by four sisters, Sue Wilson Doolin, Otelia W. Clayton, Pauline W. Wallace and Kathy Wilson Gann; and three brothers, William Henry Wilson, James Norton Wilson and John A. Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Paul Barksdale
GRETNA - Paul David Barksdale, 69, 2480 Crown Road, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem.
Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Edward Norman Barksdale and Carrie Bullington Barksdale.
He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Harry Barksdale, Fred Barksdale and Hazel Warden.
Mr. Barksdale was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church, a member of George's Creek Hunting Club and a retired farmer.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by a brother, Clarence Barksdale of Leesburg; two sisters, Mary Gunter of South Boston and Alice Stephens of Gretna; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. R.G. Rowland and the Rev. David R. Turbyfill.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Calvin Stephens, 2480 Crown Road, Gretna.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, Va. or Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 875, Gretna, Va. 24557.

Ruth Glass
BLAIRS - Ruth Josephine Glass, 66, 569 Hall Farmer Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 17, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Willie Henry Goode and Emma Hinton Goode, who survives.
She was married
to James Abrey Glass, who predeceased her.
In addition to her mother of Danville, survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Ferrell of Danville, Ruby Scott of Blairs and Juanita Harris of Staten Island, N.Y.; five sons, Albert Glass and Henry Glass, both of Blairs, and Tony Glass, Archie Glass and Elroy Glass, all of Danville; three sisters, Martha Wimbush of Danville, Marie Goode of Blairs and Florence Witlock of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three brothers, Joe Goode and Rodger Goode, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Henry Goode of Sutherlin; and a host of grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Greater Deliverance Temple by Elder Roger Jackson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Richard Holder
COLONIAL HEIGHTS - Richard Paiten Holder, 78, 211 Cambridge Place, formerly of Chatham, died Thursday evening, Dec. 11, 1997, at Hopewell Convalescent Center in Hopewell.
Born Jan. 15, 1919, in Lewisville, Miss., he was the son of Ralph Holder and Sina White Holder.
He was married
to Inez Gatewood Holder, who survives.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served during both World War II and Korean Conflict. He was also retired from Civil Service as a dietitian and cook.
He was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church and Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of Eastern Star.
He was also a member of Pittsylvania Lodge No. 24 A.F. & A.M., Petersburg Lodge No. 15 A.F. & A.M., Edwards Lodge No. 308 A.F. & A.M., Petersburg Union Royal Arch No. 7, Carl Wood Frank Council, American Legion Post 284 of Richmond and Fort Lee National Sojourners.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by his daughter, Ann Sterling H. Carico of Colonial Heights; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Burial Park by the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn with Masonic Rites.

Lillie Barbour
AXTON - Lillie Francis Clark Barbour, 71, of 233 Constellation Drive, in the Brosville community, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at her residence. She had been in declining health for one year.
Born Dec. 11, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George Madison Clark and Lillie Hayden Clark.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Melvin Barbour, who died Jan. 11, 1977.
She spent most of her life in the Brosville community. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was retired from Dan River Inc.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Melvin Barbour of Brosville; two daughters, Vickie Barbour Chaney and Jeanette Barbour Cox, both of Brosville; two sisters, Elsie Clark McDaniel of Cascade and Maggie Clark McDaniel of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Hussey. Interment will be in the Barbour Family cemetery in Brosville.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence off of Medical Center Road in Brosville.
