Barbara Satterfield
Barbara Ann Cress Satterfield, 64, 1407 N. Duke St., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at her residence.
She was the daughter of Robert Hansford Cress and Mabel Vest Cress.
She was born in Lynchburg and reared in Danville.
Retired, she had been a bookkeeper for D.C. May Co., for 26 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Anne Wrenn of Durham, N.C., and Lella Wrenn of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; two sons, Carter Wrenn of Raleigh, N.C., and David Wrenn of Providence, N.C.; a sister, Doris Bernard of Danville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mountain View cemetery in Danville by the Rev. Wilson Carter.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Clements Funeral Home, and following the graveside service the family will receive friends at the residence of her son, David Wrenn, 130 Shady Grove Road.
Marie Smith
Marie McCloud Smith, 78, 169 White St., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health for several years.
Born Nov. 4, 1919, in Dillon, S.C., she was a daughter of Grady McCloud and Layton McCloud.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she was employed by Imperial Tobacco Co., and Southern Process Tobacco Co.
Survivors include three sisters, Vera Ann McCloud of New York, Martha M. Harley of Greensboro, N.C., and Emma May Bathea of Dillon, S.C.; and four brothers, Caldwell McCloud, Buster McCloud, Rowland McCloud and Joshua McCloud, all of Dillon, S.C.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday in Highland Burial Park.

Charles Wilson Jr.
Charles Henderson Wilson Jr., 70, of 320 Hawthorne Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Danville, he was a son of Charles Henderson Wilson Sr. and Virginia Woodall Wilson.
He was married
to Myrtle Langhorne Wilson, who survives.
He was owner of Wilson Construction Company until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the German Club and the Young Men's Club. He was also a member of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Cindy Wilson Shoemaker of Richmond and Susan Wilson Clark of Lynchburg; two sons, Charles H. Wilson III of Lynchburg and Dabney L. Wilson of Chatham; a brother, George W. Wilson of Anderson, S.C.; and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. James Mathieson.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Townes Funeral Home.
Addie Howard
LYNCHBURG - Addie Brown Howard, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997.
Born May 10, 1917, in Danville, she was a daughter of John Brown and Cora Moore Thurman, who survives.
She was a retired employee of Thalhimer's department store, and a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother, survivors include two sons, Killis T. Howard of Lynchburg and Mark Addison Howard of Roanoke; a brother, William J. Thurman Jr. of Danville; two sisters, Della Cox of Danville and Frances Christiansen of Bradenton, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel by the Rev. John Siegle. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday in Mountain View cemetery in Danville by the Rev. Lewis Harris.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Lawrence Rowland
GRETNA - Lawrence Otey Rowland, 86, 1936 Midway Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 2, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Robert Lee Rowland and Nannie Simpson Rowland.
He was married
to Mary Rigney Rowland, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Lowell David Rowland of Danville and Birchie Rowland of Gretna; a daughter, Iris R. Jarbeau of Newport News; a brother, Laughton Rowland of Gretna; two sisters, Nannie Midkiff and Belle Pickeral, both of Gretna; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday at Midway Baptist Church by Dr. Lynn Marstin. Interment will be in Gretna Burial Park.

Amentha Valentine
NEW YORK - Amentha Valentine, 55, of West 103rd St., formerly of Pittsylvania County, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital Center.
Born July 4, 1942, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Orlando Berger and Leary Gregory Berger, who survives.
In addition to her mother of Pittsville, Va., survivors include a daughter, Shavonne Valentine Bonner of New York; three sons, Leonard Berger of Hurt, Kenneth Wayne Berger of Java and Brian Valentine of New York; three sisters, Hettie Smith of Pittsville and Elizabeth Smith and Lucille Hamlett, both of North Carolina; and two brothers, James Berger and Jerome Berger, both of Chatham.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Deloris Robertson and Olivia Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Louis Berger and Elder Garry Witcher. Burial will be in Burning Bush Holiness Church cemetery.

Cleo Wilmoth
SOUTH BOSTON - Cleo Stevens Wilmoth, 75, 1207 Berry Hill Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 17, 1922, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Charlie W. Womack and Nellie Hudson Womack.
She was first married
to Henry G. Stevens, and later was married
to James E. Wilmoth.
She was a member of South Boston Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Marvin H. Stevens of Danville; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers, James E. Womack, Robert H. Womack and Lindsey H. Womack Sr.; and a half-sister, Gladys Ashby Wilmoth.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday at South Boston Church of God by the Rev. Bill Leonard. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

CHATHAM - Rebecca W. Coles, 82, of 397 Rison St., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, in Hightower Home, Danville.
Born June 17, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Ella Watson.
She was married
to James Coles, Sr., who predeceased her.
She was a member of Wilson Memorial Baptist Church and the deaconess board.
Survivors include two sons, James Coles, Jr, . of the residence and Tommy Watson of Atlantic City, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Wilson Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry W. Echols. Burial will be in Chatham cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
