Hattie Larue
Hattie W. Larue, 94, 170 North Avenue, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 31, 1903, in Danville.
She was a retired tobacco factory worker for American Tobacco.
She was a member of Ross Street Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy White Graves of Danville; and a sister, Geneva White of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday at Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. James Stewart. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
There will be a viewing for family and friends from 4-8 p.m., today at the funeral home.
The family will be at the residence.
Manios 'Nick' Nickolous
Manios "Nick" Nickolous, 61, 555 Cedarbrook Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Born Oct. 26, 1936, in Athens, Greece, he was a son of Nick Nickolous and Helen Meechous Nickolous, who survives.
He was the manager of Downtown Motor Inn and Ma Collins. He was also the manager of Stella's Steak House in Charlotte, N.C., and the cafeteria at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institution, and was the current assistant manager of Pete's Pizza.
He owned and operated a pizza shop on North Main Street and Kelly's Pizza on Westover Drive.
He was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
In 1946, he came to the United States from Greece.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Nickolous of Louisiana; a stepdaughter, Robin Eanes Higdon of Ringgold; and a brother, Pete Nickolous of Danville.
He was predeceased by Harry Nick Nickolous.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday at St. Peter's Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Peter G. Rexinis.
A Trisagion Service will be conducted at 7 p.m., today with visitation following until 8:30 p.m.

Elnora Snead
Elnora George Snead, 85, of Roanoke, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at the Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
Born March 10, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Lee Carson George and Vera Smith George.
She was married
to Sidney Herman Snead, who predeceased her.
She received her nursing degree from Memorial Hospital in Danville, with additional training from Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include three sisters, Edna G. Rives of McKenny; Beulah G. Walker of Hopewell; and Patsy G. Scott of Roanoke.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at Highland Burial Park.

Efford Oakes
AXTON - Efford James Oakes, 86, of 355 Breckenridge Circle, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born May 8, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of John James Oakes and Ida Bell Rigney Oakes.
He was married
to Mamie Kendrick Oakes, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Martinsville, he is survived by two sons, Thomas Wayne Oakes of Axton and Efford James Oakes Jr. of Martinsville; a sister, Bertha O. Reynolds of Newport News; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Kendrick Family cemetery by Minister Dean Ashby.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at County Line Christian Church and other times at the residence of a grandson, Jerry Oakes.

Harry Reynolds
CHATHAM - Harry Reynolds, 80, of 664 Oxford Road, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Samuel Jackson Reynolds and Lenna Blair Reynolds.
He was married
to Dare Mattox Reynolds, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter, and a member of Greenpond Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by three sons, Leonard Carol Reynolds of Forest, David Page Reynolds of Danville, and Aubrey Eugene Reynolds of Java; two daughters, Marlene R. Belcher of Vinton and Juanita R. Stone of Graham, N.C.; two brothers, Suter Reynolds and Russell Reynolds, both of Chatham; six sisters, Frances R. Rigney, Jean R. Goad and Jewel R. Rigney, all of Penhook, Neva R. Thornton of Chatham, Lucille R. Koehler of Cincinnati, and Emma Sue R. Mayhew of Rice; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. John McCray and the Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Alice Bowen
GRETNA - Alice Dove Bowen, 90, 5376 East Gretna Road, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 22, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Alonza Jackson Dove and Almedia Worsham Dove.
She was married
to Oscar Clayton "O.C." Bowen.
A graduate of Harrisonburg State Teachers' College (now James Madison University), she was a retired teacher with Pittsylvania County Schools.
She was a member of Greenpond Baptist Church, where she was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie Riddle of Burkeville and Faye Tucker of Gretna; a brother, Koy Dove of Altavista; a sister, Dorothy Owen of Gretna; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenpond Baptist Church by the Rev. John McCray, the Rev. R.G. Rowland and the Rev. Clyde Shelton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

CHATHAM - Virginia Adkins Edwards, 78, of Route 3, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.
Born July 8, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William O.T. Adkins and Alpha Parsons Adkins.
She was married
to Wallace Wright Edwards, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn C. Edwards of Martinsville and Stephen W. Edwards of Lynchburg; three sisters, Ruby A. Fox and Helen A. George, both of Chatham, and Gladys A. Gentry of Roxboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Hollywood Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. John Shields.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home.
Daisy Reynolds
Daisy Wynonna Robertson Reynolds, of 1567 Kemper Road, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 28, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Howard Robertson.
She was married
to Jim Cutler Reynolds, who survives.
She was a retired librarian at Danville Regional Medical Center School of Nursing, and was a member of West End Christian Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Glenn Clark Reynolds and David Howard Reynolds, both of Danville; a daughter, Carol Ann Reynolds of Matlacha; a brother, Douglas Howard Robertson of Tappahannock; and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Ray Robertson.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at West End Christian Church.
