Nancy Towler
Nancy Lee Gibson Towler, 61, 344 Guilford St., died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., following 10 months of declining health.
Born Oct. 10, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Otha W. Gibson and Essie Rigney Gibson.
On Dec. 17, 1965, she was married
to Thomas J. Towler, who survives.
A resident of the Danville area for most of her life, she was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by her sister, Valeria Gibson of Callands.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice M. Gibson and Mertha T. Rich; and a brother, O.G. Gibson.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m., Thursday at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Roger Collins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-9 tonight at the church, and other times at the residence.

Otis Anderson
FAIRLAWN - Otis Kent Anderson, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at his residence.
Born Jan. 4, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charles H. Anderson and Lena L. Anderson.
He was married
to Doris M. Anderson, who survives.
He was an active, long-time member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife of Fairlawn, survivors include two sons, Charles Lee Anderson and Michael K. Anderson, both of Radford; a daughter, Rita A. Jones of Dublin; two brothers, Gilbert Anderson of Yanceyville, N.C., and Harry L. Anderson of Danville; five sisters, Mildred A. Boles, Elizabeth A. Heffinger, Patty A. Haskins and Jeanette A. Brown, all of Danville, and Clara A. Moser of Java; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William H. Jackson. Entombment will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.
Betty Carter
Betty Williams Carter, 63, 421 Granville Drive, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 1997, at her residence.
Mrs. Carter was born in Glade Spring, on Aug. 13, 1934, a daughter of Frank Williams and the late Hilda Venable Williams.
Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy Ray Carter, who died Jan. 23, 1985.
Mrs. Carter was retired from DuPont and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her father of Lebanon, include a son, Walter Blake Carter, and daughter-in-law, Mary Anderson Carter, both of Danville; and two grandchildren, Melinda Carter and Kristen Carter, both of Danville; five sisters, Lois Gayler and Carolyn Keesee, both of Glade Spring, and Evelyn Musellwhite of Memphis, Tenn., and Dotty Taylor of Richmond, and Rita Colley of Morristown, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m., Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.B. Baldridge. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 tonight, and other times at the residence, 421 Granville Drive.
Charles Roberson
RINGGOLD - Charles H. Roberson, 92, 4256 Ringgold Church Road, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 1997, at his residence after three-and-a-half years of declining health.
Mr. Roberson was born Jan. 13, 1905, in Cherokee County, N.C., a son of the late Edward E. Roberson and Joyce F. Roberson.
Mr. Roberson spent most of his adult life in the Danville area. He was a member of Morotock Lodge No. 210 A.F. & A.M., and also a member of Danville Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, where he was a 32nd degree mason, and a member of 132nd degree of Eastern Cherokee Indian Tribe.
He was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church Joy Club.
He was predeceased by his wife, May S. Roberson.
Survivors include a sister, Bessie Carter of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, Clifford Roberson and Oliver Roberson, both of Danville, and Alvin Roberson of Macon, Ga.; a niece, Ellen R. DeMott; a nephew, Billy DeMott; a great-niece, Jannie DeMott; a great-nephew, Jason DeMott, and many other nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Homer Roberson, Fred Roberson, Howard Roberson and James Roberson.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Carl E. Burger, where masonic rites will be conducted by the Morotock Lodge No. 210 A.F. & A.M.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home from 7-8:30 tonight, and other times at his residence, 4256 Ringgold Church Road.
Calvin 'C.G.' Simpson Sr.
Calvin Girard "C.G." Simpson Sr., 59, 2720 West Main St., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, in the emergency room at Danville Regional Medical Center after seven years of declining health.
Born April 17, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Percy Walton Simpson and Bessie Griffith Simpson.
He had lived in Danville for the past seven years. Prior to retiring, he was a plant supervisor in the steel industry.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Calvin G. Simpson Jr. of Danville; three daughters, Wanda S. Thompson of Danville, and Connie Simpson and Carol Simpson, both of Houston; a brother, Harvey Simpson of Providence, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Duane Blevins.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, 430 West Woodlawn Drive.
James 'Bob' Walker
Funeral services for James Robert "Bob" Walker, 73, formerly of 2862 Westover Drive, will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. William Blalock. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. His health had been declining for a number of years, and he had been a hospital patient for three weeks.
Born April 16, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of E.T. Walker and Kate Duncan Walker, who survives.
He owned and operated J.R. Walker Trucking Co., for a number of years and worked as a contractor for the North Carolina Highway Department.
During World War II, he served as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army in Italy.
He lived in Ruffin, N.C., for a number of years, was of the Baptist faith and was a member of VFW Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Sandra Walker Miller of Bismark, N.D., and Judith Walker Shealy of Yorktown; two sisters, Louise W. Campbell and Lynda W. Hyler, both of Danville; two brothers, Lewis J. Walker and Bradford N. Walker, both of Danville; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Edward DeMiller Jr.
Edward DeMiller Jr., 71, 130 Meadowbrook Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem.
Born Aug. 4, 1926, in Detroit, he was the son of Edward DeMiller Sr.
On Sept. 3, 1979, he was married
to Alice Moore DeMiller, who survives.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of North Main Baptist Church.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 325 and VFW Post 8093 of Florida, and was vice president of the Danville Amateur Radio Society.
He lived most of his life in Florida and the last few years in Danville.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Kyle Flora with military honors performed by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Emma Fulcher
Emma Bell Woods Fulcher, 89, formerly of 369 Juless St., died Friday morning, Nov. 28, 1997, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born July 5, 1908, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of John Robert Lee Woods and Kathy Walden Woods.
She was married
to William Roy Fulcher, who died July 7, 1962.
A resident of Danville for most of her life, she was a sitter for the sick and a member of the former Southall Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Grogan of Danville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at 321 Wilson Road.
